I can’t join this campaign for several reasons, mainly the fact that I live in England and I am pretty sure most participants will be living in America. The time zone difference would slow the adventure down. But I would like to be able to read the discord chats used anyway, as this fascinates me. I know nothing about NIHM.
If I did play, I would be a Mousefolk Wild Magic Sorcerer with… I was thinking the haunted one background. If I am right in thinking that the NIHM did experiments on the rodents, then the haunted one background and the wild magic subclass would both result from being traumatised by over-experimentation on my character. They weren’t with any of the other NIHM survivors when they left, and somehow found the way to the farm on their own. After discovering that they had magic, this character was obviously freaked out, accidentally triggering an explosion-based Wild Magic Burst. They eventually managed to limit the Wild Magic Bursts, which they call Anstuboltys as a result of mishearing a human call them instabilities. I haven’t come up with anything else yet, but they would probably have good Cha and Dex, with a Str dump.
The thing with pbp is that timezones don't matter, I'm from England too. If the dm posts when we are asleep, we reply when awake. There will be overlap, and even if not, that's why we play pbp. Most games have the requirement of 1 post a day minimum, for this reason. If timezones align, it can be more, but not essential.
I live in Australia and I can still run my game fine, I do encourage my players to post every day as soon as possible, though, but all and all, every PBP game will take much, much longer than a regular one. You don't need to post multiple times per day, just stick with the group until the campaign ends, that's all we ask for.

Is this thread still recruiting? Was very interested when I first saw it, but no characters from this world introduced themselves to me until last night. Allow me to present 'Slither' (Codename: Stiletto), a Ratfolk NIMH Survivor. What I got of his background sounded like one of the rare warlocks, possibly Great Old One or Archfey, but he was naturally traumatized given what you're about to read so it could be an Arcane Trickster or something just driven nuts ... be glad to PM you about any details. Working on character sheet based on first impression of a warlock, be able to post link soon. Also soon might be able to coax a portrait out of 'Slither' ... maybe if one of the AI art sites does it it would ease his mind ...
They wanted me to be their spy. Their secret weapon. To slip into enemy labs and destroy their NIMH research. My own NIMH brothers, if need be, just because they had the misfortune to be born on the other side of some stupid line the Big Folk drew on the earth. But their program was hush-hush even within "our" NIMH. Certain lines you don't cross without even your own side looking at you with dark and sidelong glances. Certain powers that the humans clain they don't believe in any more; that they explain away as "manifestations of latent paranormal energy". But even the humans instinctively know.
I always knew I was better than that. They didn't count on the lab assistant who was secretly horrified by what her superiors were doing and did all she could for me. Including the books she left where I could read them. I devoured all the spy stories, the Robin Hood stuff, all the things that though I didn't know it would eventually fit me for a life in the wilderness trying to slip through a hostile world unseen. Well, at least the farm.
In fact, I began to style myself as quite the gentleman rogue; a cross between James Bond and Alan a'Dale, if you will. But none of that protected me from what they did to me; from the terrible whispers that haunt my sleep even now; from the strange powers that I so desperately need now to survive and for which I always pay some price in my soul every time I use them ...
btw I too am more a Redwallian and an inhabitant of Watership Down than a NIHMby, though I have seen the movie posters so I was familiar with title though an absolute woodhead until you told us about associating the NIMH in the title with the Nat'l Institute of Mental Hoopla
also i have a Discord account but that's about all I know about it so i'd appreciate instruction on how to discord

Hey folks, I'm going to stop applications for now while I catch up. I have a few offers out via PM, and will determine tomorrow if more time is needed.
There are no longer any reasons for me not to play, but my as yet unnamed character obviously has competition in the form of Slither and Peanut, both of whom are much better written than my own character.
Sorry about the late reply folks. I've been busy with the holiday here in the states.
I have accepted six applications and will not be accepting anymore applicants at this time. This was really tough because everyone who applied had really good character concepts and I'm sorry I can't bring all of you in at this time.
If there is an opening in the future, I will reopen applications in this thread.
I am super excited to apply for this. I caught wind of this after you closed (but before the original deadline). I saw The Secret of NIHM as a child and actually rewatched it a few months ago. It’s think it’s really great that you created this. I had this idea for a Cardinal (bird) bard (I thought it was fitting that a song bird to be a bard. I could re-imaging them as a crow scavenger (either Rogue or Ranger). Happy to work with you if you are open to having me as a player. Happy Gaming.
For anyone who is interested, or who hasn't seen that the recruitment reopened, we will be accepting applications again for about 24 more hours. If you previously applied and are still interested in being considered, or missed applications last time, we're interested from hearing from you.

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)

You know, because only one full caster?
Does JFcapps have Master Class? I don’t have a subscription.

I like the idea. Go ahead and cook up your Bard and let's see what happens. :)

I'm still here, and if I recall correctly, Kintla is a Ranger, so there's that.

Apologies for not getting to this sooner, but last night got hectic and I didn't get to close things when I said.
I'll be reaching out to folks shortly via DM.
Sign ups are closed again for now.
