The little mouse reaches for Peanut when she scoops her up and speaks gently, letting her hands grab hold of her fur. She pulls herself in close, burying her little muzzle in the pocket of Peanut's shoulder.
"We live in a big hay pile in the back of the barn." She says, pointing back through the door into the back of the main run. "I hope so. I miss my daddy. He's never been away this long."
She looks back at Theodore and then gets really quiet for a moment before she continues.
"My mommy went to the farmhouse and never came back." She said gently. "My name is Mitsy."
The hose jerks along its length, starting at the hydrant and working its way toward Num quickly once the water gets going. Apparently it's pressurized very, very well, as suddenly Num feels the power in his hands...
I need a DC 13 Strength Save from Num to have total control of that hose or he might be taking a ride!
There is a sputter as little pockets of air meter their way out with the first little bursts of water, and Num almost has control of the hose. Then the rush comes, and the hose quickly overtakes Num's ability to control it. It lashes his left, right, then viciously to the left again, where he looses control of it and is tossed toward the edge of the table...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Num loses the handle on the hose as water sprays everywhere. He barely dodges out of the way, then hops over the hose again, a step before getting knocked off the table. As a last effort he lunges for the hose one more time to try and get a handle on it.
When Num grabs the hose for the second time he's ready, and maintains strong control of the water jet as he puts out the fire on top of the work bench...
Once the fire is out, Num pushes the hose to the side, letting water cascade over the side of the table like a waterfall. He then climbs back down to the floor to see if anyone needs help getting out of the barn, then heads outside to join up with whoever he finds out there.
"Wonder if should turn water off," Num muses as he heads outside.
As the little mouse says that her home is on the other side of the barn and in a hay pile, Peanut stops in her tracks and her ears lie flat against her head as the repercussions of the fire give real meaning and she looks down at the tiny thing. Hearing what happened to the mouselings mother, Peanut droops even more. She stands there, looking back to the open door of the barn.
Unsure of what to do, she looks to Theodore, to the mouse in her arms and to the open door of the barn. That's when she sees Num come through the open door of the barn and she lets out of breath of relief. Running towards him, she asks, "What's going on? This little one needs to get to the other side of the barn, and that white rat, Theo, needs to get to the rosebush." Her cheeks start turning pink as the stress of the moment starts getting to her.
Jerad turns off the water as soon as Num runs out, then chases after the two other 'firefighters' and says, "Good work, you two. I'm glad you both were here. I don't know what would have happened otherwise." He looks up at the barn for a moment, then back at Num and the shrew whose name he hasn't gotten yet. "My name is Jerad. What are yours?" He extends a paw, "I haven't seen you around before. Are you new? Or perhaps our paths had not yet crossed."
His ears flick forward when the hedgehog rushes over with a mouseling in her arms, and he also notices Theodore. "Oh... Theo, I'm glad you are safe. We can head back to the rosebush together, but first..."
He looks to the shrew who'd seen the fire start, "Could I ask you some more questions... about the rat who started the fire? I... would like a description if you can manage." He has a bad feeling about this, but tries not to let on to that.
Theodore's eyes widen when the child answer's him. He should have known. Oh the poor child. He looks down at his paws, odds are she's now an orphan.
However, he's snapped out of it when Peanut rushes back towards the barn then he chases after her. "Please don't worry about me." He says after peanut speaks, "Now that the fire's out I can find-- Oh there you are Jerad." He smiles then continues, "Helping that young mouse is more important then helping me."
He gives a start when Jerad mentions a rat starting the fire, "W-what?! A rat started the fire? Why?!"
”Name is Num Burr Nin. But you call me Num. Easier to remember.” Num says then he listens to the question about the fire being started by the mystery rat. “Maybe he cold and want fire to make warmer.
Num looks back into the barn then towards the farmhouse for any sign of the huge mans. Or the cat. The big cat was the worst.
Peanut breathes a sigh of relief when Theodore connects with his friend, apparently another rat named Jerad. She nods towards the taller rat, a bit nervous about meeting another one, but then turns back to Theodore, "It was nice meeting you, I hope to run into you again!"
Then starting to move towards the barn with Mitsy still in her arms, she yells towards Num, "I need your help! Please come with me to help find this poor ones papa. She said they live in a hay bale on the other side of the barn?" She starts heading back into the barn as she says this, looking for Clive as well.
Clive follows Peanut from a small distance. Close enough that she can see him, far enough that attention won't be drawn to him when she talks. He's really not surprised that a rat started this. He never trusted the rats. Not that he's not met a nice rat, but he's seen plenty of nasty and creepy ones. He still is checking for Dragon or the humans. Especially that new one.
As the little creature's gather up, they notice the thick smoke billowing out of the barn doors and rising into the late evening sky. Even with the fire out, the work bench is still smoking and steaming and putting on quite the show.
Around them, wide eyes atop little faces begin to peak out of the high grass surrounding the barn. There is murmuring and a sense of awe as the mice, rats, shrews, a squirrel, even the possum emerge to marvel at the actions of their heroes. One little mouse, a youngling with a little woven toy holster on his hip, no doubt an imitation of Billy's, runs out of the grass to throw his arms around Num's waist.
"Oh thank you mister, thank you!" The kid squeaks excitedly. "You saved all our homes! All of 'em mister! You and your friends!"
Indy has time to give his new friends a brief description of what happened when he climbed up on top of the work bench. He'd pretty much immediately spotted a rat with a small war pick knocking a hole in the lantern, spilling fuel before tipping the lantern over and dashing off into the barn.
There's a short celebration at this time as the other little critters chime in their thanks as well...but it doesn't last. There is a loud bang, and everyone knows what the sounds means; the screen door on the back of the Fitzgibbon's porch has been released, no doubt after opening. A glance reveals a lantern coming across the field toward the barn, and the silhouette, and voice, of the farmer as he says something. His movement looks a little off in the darkness.
Mitsy holds tight to Peanut as Num addresses her. The little one looks frightened of the big rat as he speaks to her, but then she answers, if a bit reluctant.
Clive goes to Peanut "Hide. Humans coming. Make sure you and the kid are safe. I want to hear what they say"and he goes to find a dark place in the barn, preferably one that has an exit point nearby, be it a window, loose board, or burrow (stealth 24) and waits for hearing the reaction when they get here.
"Oh uh. Yeah! It was nice meeting you! I hope we meet again as well!" Theodore replies, he waves as Peanut goes over to Num, "I hope you find the little one's father!" After a moment he lets out a squeak upon hearing the door open. The man! He's coming!
Then he looks to Jerad. "Should we head back?"

At the signal, Jerad turns the water on, bracing himself on the hydrant as it quivers from the water rushing through it.
