If you’re going back out to get Heckle, I’ll just get you to roll another random encounter. A d6, with an encounter on a 1. I’ll also get you to roll the same for every 4 hours that passes while making your long rest.
Xanrym would at least want to take Liarin with him to get Heckle since she's good with Animal Handling. Heckle is a good horse, but he's not sure how willing he'll be to come down into the dungeon. He thinks that at least a couple of them should stay in area 20b to make sure that nothing sneaks up from the dungeon's lower level(s) while they're getting Heckle. So, maybe Avery and Toska stay in 20b while Liarin and Xanrym go back to get Heckle. Theldrin can go with either group, depending on which he thinks is more likely to need his help.
Ok so you go and get Heckle, with the silent walls of the dungeon overbearing around you. You get back to the top of the stairs and find Heckle munching on grass out the front, he seems very happy to see you and comes back into the dungeon with you willingly.
You retrace your steps back to the entrance of Araphise’s lair, and are surprised by a new sight, a giant crocodile has waddled up from the lake to the west. The massive creature is blocking the way into the room and turns around snapping at you, looking very hungry. Initiative:
Group 1: Theldrin, Liarin, and Xanrym
Group 2: Crocodile
The three of you are up, with the crocodile blocking your path into the harpy’s lair.
The three of you are up, with the crocodile blocking your path into the harpy’s lair.
(OOC: I'm not sure whether Liarin is still in her bear Wild Shape, but even if she's not...)
Xanrym moves to stand next to Liarin (or behind her if she's still in her brown bear wild shape) as he draws his shortswords. He wants to make sure that the crocodile cannot get at Theldrin or Heckle. He mocks the crocodile, saying, "I've been told that crocodiles can grow up to 15 feet. I'm disappointed to see that you only have 4!"
Movement: Move to stand beside / behind Liarin Action: Cast spell Vicious Mockery, WIS 13 save or target takes 4 (psychic) damage and has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn. Free Action: Drawing swords
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
If Theldrin doesn't see Liarin making an attempt to communicate with or calm the crocodile using her druidic ways, he goes ahead and shoots a Fire Bolt.
Liarin will engage with the Crocodile, so the Firebolt goes off but misses the Crocodile. Liarin reverts to bear form and attacks the Crocodile (I've marked off Liarin's second use of Wild Shape as I reckon an hour has probably passed since her last use):
Bite against Crocodile Attack: 22 Damage: 6 Piercing
Claws against Crocodile Attack: 26 Damage: 7 Slashing
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The crocodile lashes out at Liarin:
Bite against Liarin Attack: 24 Damage: 12 Piercing, and Liarin is Grappled. Until this grapple ends, the target is Restrained, and the crocodile can’t bite another target.
Tail against Liarin Attack: 12 Damage: 13 Bludgening, and Liarin must succeed on a DC 13 StrengthSave or be knocked Prone.

Xanrym: Round 2
Seeing Liarin-bear clamped in the creature's jaws, Xanrym leaps forward with a sword in each hand to stab at it. His goal is to force the crocodile to let go before it can drag Liarin-bear away. If it lets go of her, he'll let it flee, but if they kill it, so much the better.
Movement: Moving forward to engage the crocodile in melee Action: Attack, Shortsword: 18, Damage: 5 (piercing) Bonus Action: Attack (off-hand), Shortsword: 14, Damage: 2 (piercing)

(OOC: I guess I should have clarified earlier. Did you say "giant crocodile" just because crocodiles are big animals? Or did you mean giant crocodile like the "giant turtle" we faced in the swamp? Note that if this is a Huge creature, it should occupy a 15 ft x 15 ft space. If it's trying to fight us in the 10-ft wide hallway, then it should be disadvantaged by squeezing into a smaller space.
If this is really a giant crocodile, Xanrym may need to adjust his strategy, which would include at least this change...)

Free Action: Yelling.
Since Xanrym knows that they've cleared out a large part of the dungeon behind them, Xanrym risks yelling, hoping that Avery and Toska can hear him through the harpy's door and the intervening rooms. He shouts, "Avery! Help!" He knows that even if Avery hears him, it'll take a couple more rounds before Avery can reach them, but depending on how the fight goes, they may still need him.

Liarin forces her way out of the Crocodiles jaws, while the crocodile tries to grab onto her again, it's tail swings out at Xanrym who's also in melee with it:
Bite against Liarin Attack: 19 Damage: 17 Piercing and Liarin is Grappled. Until this grapple ends, the target is Restrained, and the crocodile can’t bite another target.
Tail against Xanrym Attack: 22 Damage: 16 Bludgeoning and Xanrym must succeed on a DC 13 StrengthSave or be knocked Prone.
The three of you are up, you hear Avery and Toska running from the next room but will not arrive until next round.

Random Encounter: 1
(OOC: Would rather not split the party but since I already know the result of the encounter roll that seems like metagaming at this point)
Theldrin will accompany Xanrym and Liarin as they return to the surface to get Heckle.

It doesn’t understand what your saying.
Liarin and Theldrin still up.
If Theldrin doesn't see Liarin making an attempt to communicate with or calm the crocodile using her druidic ways, he goes ahead and shoots a Fire Bolt.
Attack: 16 Damage: 2
Liarin will engage with the Crocodile, so the Firebolt goes off but misses the Crocodile. Liarin reverts to bear form and attacks the Crocodile (I've marked off Liarin's second use of Wild Shape as I reckon an hour has probably passed since her last use):

I believe both of those hit so Liarin's DC 13 STR Save: 11
The Crocodile ripping into Liarin, her huge bear form stuck in his equally giant maw.
The three of you are up, Liarin is stuck in the crocodiles jaws and has been knocked over by it's tail, she is both Restrained and Prone.
Theldrin curses under his breath and scowls as he aims another Fire Bolt at the crocodile.
Attack: 17 Damage: 6

The crocodile is simply Large, 10x10. Avery and Toska hear the yelling, it will take them two rounds to get into the room you're currently in.
All of Theldrin's and Xanrym's attacks hit, angering the crocodile.
Liarin is still up, reminder that her attacks will like be at disadvantage due to being Restrained and Prone.
I have returned
(Sorry for unexplained absence, started a new job and hadn’t worked out when I could find time to post.)
Liarin tries to force her way out of the crocodiles maw.
