Syllen's animals tear through the scene yet again, while Khessa takes a couple opportunity attacks to haul Rethos back. Unfortunately, Coriana’s save happens at the end of her turn, so she can take back the spell a lot for Witch Bolt. Theldrin’s Lightning Bolt rips through Lord Vuglomax, and you hear his dying scream echo through your mind, there’s a silent hush as the others realise what you’ve done. Avery then steps forward and slashes Bloobbloum twice as Xanrym forces the Troglodyte to retreat.
Bloobbloum at first tries to grab Rethos, but seeing Vuglomax go down, instead decides to take a few steps back and cast Destructive Wave at a bunch of you. You make CON saves or take 12 Thunder Damage and 20 Radiant Damage and are knocked prone. No prime and half damage on a save:
He orders the Spiderhunterd to keep fighting, thinking to save the Blueknight. The Quaggoth attacks Theldrin while the Wererat is on Syllen. The Trog attacks Xanrym after the Hexxer tries to blind him:
Claw against Theldrin Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. Slashing
Claw against Theldrin Attack: 18 Damage: 17 Slashing
Bite against Syllen Attack: 9 Damage: 8 Piercing and Syllen makes a DC 11 CON Save against lycanthropy: 13
Scratch against Syllen Attack: 8 Damage: 9 Slashing
Syllen feels a power coarse through him. His teeth grow pointier and his skin breaks out in slight fur. If he drops to 0 hit points, he will become a Wererat.
Trog Bite against Xanrym Attack: 12 Damage: 5 Piercing
Trog Claw against Xanrym Attack: 21 Damage: 6 Slashing
Trog Claw against Xanrym Attack: 25 Damage: 7 Slashing
You all are up, each of you in general states of melee. And what’s the deal with Rethos? Is he not making Death Saves anymore?
Well... Khessa's used her whole previous turn and took two nasty blows to stabilize him... (use of Healer's Kit auto-stabilizes the target - "A Healer’s Kit has ten uses. As a Utilize action, you can expend one of its uses to stabilize an Unconscious creature that has 0 Hit Points without needing to make a Wisdom (Medicine) check.") so I really hope Rethos does not need to do Death Saves anymore! 😉
(For the same reason, there's no way Bloobbloum could have attempted to grab Rethos—Khessa just carried him out of the fray! But OK, it doesn't matter because Bloobbloum did something else anyway).
After ensuring Rethos was safe, Khessa had used her Weapon Bond to summon her enchanted Greatsword; now she's ready to do what she said she would: definitively save the 'Blue Knight' from the trouble he's once again gotten himself into.
The blonde arcane warrior's determination is such that she almost doesn't seem to feel the blows she took while carrying her brother to safety, shielding him with her body. 'Bloobbloum...' she thinks clearly. 'He's the one leading the Inheritors now—he's the one who must die next.' And in the meantime, she's already activated a protective spell that makes her Blurry. The Kuo-Toa's powerful spell hits her, but even that doesn't seem to seriously worry her, and she remains standing, slightly shaken but not in any difficulty.
The tall adventuress then telepathically instructs Anator and, while the bat distracts him, reaches Bloobbloum and brings her massive blade down in a downward slash to his collarbone.
[[ OOC: Bonus Action: Second Wind. Action: cast Blur. Movement: Go in melee with Bloobbloum. Anator's Action: Help to give Khessa's Attack Advantage. Khessa's Action: Surge: Attack Bloobbloum with her magical Greatsword. From now on, Khessa is Blurry, so attack against her are at Disadvantage (or just straight rolls, if she is still affected by Faerie Fire). ]]
The Trog attacks Xanrym after the Hexxer tries to blind him: Xanrym DC 13 CON Save or Blinded: 19
(OOC: Xanrymresists the spell, and since the Goblin Hexer cast another spell that requires concentration, I guess they're no longer concentrating on Faerie Fire. The Company should now be free from that spell's effects, and the opponents no longer have advantage on their attacks.)
Xanrym's dissonance sends the troglodyte away, and he moves out of the main aisle. He sees the flash from Theldrin'sspell and hears the psychic death scream of the Lord Vuglomax. But before he can let out a cheer, Xanrym sees a flash of sickly light from the main aisle and feels a strange pulse reverberate through the warehouse. ("Did Lord Vuglomax explode when he died?", he wonders.) He hopes that the destructive wave didn't kill any of his companions or Es Sarch, but he doesn't have long to think about it. The troglodyte recovers and charges back at him! It's too close for even his magic to protect him, and he nearly gags from the troglodyte's stench as it scratches him with its claws. Thankfully, Syllen's blessing helps him resist the troglodyte's attack.
Xanrym's first instinct is to get away, but he takes heart in the knowledge that The Company has defeated the tentacle-faced leader of the Inheritors! Bloobbloum doesn't seem to be able to cast lightning at them without his "strange scepter." Xanrym is confident that they'll soon finish off these other opponents: he just has to hold out long enough for his companions to come help him with his fight. Ignoring the Goblin Hexer for now, Xanrym realizes that he's in a narrow aisle between boxes. He summons a bonfire beneath the troglodyte, hoping to drive the reeking creature away from him.
From his current position, the only member of The Company Xanrym can see is Syllen. The druid seems to be fighting some sort of monstrous rat. He calls out to Syllen across the warehouse: "My fair druid, put an end to that rodent of unusual size and shape!"
DC 14 CON saving throw: 12. Xanrym is poisoned by the Troglodyte Champion's stench until the start of the its next turn.
Movement: None. Xanrym stays in melee with the Troglodyte, ensuring that its only way out of the bonfire is to move back, away from Xanrym. Action: Cast spell Create Bonfire, DC 17 DEX saving throw or take damage: 3 (fire) Bonus Action: Grant bardic inspiration to Syllen. Free Action: Talking
Concentration: Create Bonfire round 1 of 10 If the troglodyte ends its turn still in the bonfire, it must make a DC 17 DEX saving throw or take damage: 9 (fire)
Bardic Inspiration: Syllen Once within the next 1 hour when Syllen fails a D20 Test, he can roll a 1d8 and add the number rolled to the d20, possibly turning failure into a success. (And if the roll still fails, he keeps the bardic inspiration because of Xanrym's Unfailing Inspiration feature.)
(OOC: reading through the new developments, looks like Khessa triggered the Quaggoth's AoO that Thelrdrin would have incurred, then Shieldkicked in to protect him from its regular attacks. Also, did the wererat hit Syllen? The rolls seems to say it missed and the save was made)
