Wand of Wonder: 71
69–72
Nothing happens at the chosen point of origin. Instead, you shrink as if you had cast Enlarge/Reduce on yourself and remain in that state for 1 minute.
The blonde arcane warrior once again feels the wand acting on her instead of the intended target... but this time the effect isn't beneficial, as with the invisibility! She notices that the spell is trying to shrink her... and is unable to resist.
The ex-tall adventuress draws her magical greatsword and positions herself between the two large living spells, attacking the Living Lighting Bolt, as it's easily within Avery's reach, and advising: "Focus on this one!" to decrease the number of enemies as quickly as possible.
[[ OOC: Movement: To position herrself - I hope that square is good, it seemed clear enough to me. Action Surge: Attack with her magical Greatsword. ]]
Theldrin curses under his breath when he sees Khessa use the wand again, with unexpected results. As his mind races to decide what action to take, he considers what he might know about living spells.
Little Khessa and Avery begin hacking at the lightning bolt with their magic weapons, and the Blade of Disaster acts quickly and flies toward Khessa:
Force Blade against Khessa Attack: 23
Khessa sees the force blade coming and is ready to match force with force: at the last moment, a invisible barrier deflects the blow, which impacts the armor at an unfavorable angle and fails to harm the blonde arcane warrior.
The (no longer so) tall adventuress simultaneously activates her Arcane Ward, to maximize her protection.
[[ OOC: Khessa casts Shield as Reaction; her AC increases by 5, becoming 24 until the start of her next turn. Since it's an Abjuration spell, she also activates her Arcane Ward - it will protect her from some damage in the future. ]]
Theldrin isn't sure exactly how living spells function but still calls out to Xanrym in attempt to coordinate his attack with the bard (readies his spell for casting after Xanrym takes his turn). He then drops a Fireball on the other side of the room where the blast radius will encompass all three of the living spells, using Sculpt Spells to protect Khessa and Avery from the magical fire.
Xanrym holds up his lantern to help illuminate the room. As the ghastly implications the shackles attached to the table become clear, the "living spells" glide into the room. Xanrym exclaims, "What foul sorcery is this?!" He isn't sure what he's seeing, but he's certain that these amorphous things aren't here to extend a kind welcome to the The Company! Xanrym is not surprised when Khessa and Avery immediately rush forward to swing their magic swords at one of the things, but he is surprised to see that Khessa is now half of her normally-impressive stature! Their attacks seem to wound it, so he decides that they aren't just intangible things, like the murder of crows that Syllen can conjure.
When Theldrin prompts him, Xanrym confirms, "Get ready: I will try to reduce their resistance to our magic." He starts to beat a rhythm on his drum and chants a malediction in time. Then he makes the prescribed arcane gestures to encompass all three of the living spells. Xanrym then focuses on the Living Lightning Bolt, saying, "You have lain her in decades only to be undone by your first visitors!", lacing his words with magical potency.
But the thing that Xanrym taunted reminds him of the time the naga caught the entire Company with a lightning bolt, and he realizes Syllen, Theldrin, and he are all lined up in the hallway! He hurriedly retreats back down the spiral stairs until he is entirely out-of-sight of the room, hoping to remain safe so that he can maintain concentration on his spell.
Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Bane targeting all 3 Living Spells. They must make a DC 17 CHA saving throw or be affected by the spell. While the spell lasts, whenever affected creatures attack or make a saving throw, they must subtract 1d4 from the roll. This round, the penalty is 4 Bonus Action: Use Unsettling Words against the Living Lightning Bolt. It must must subtract 5 from the next saving throw it makes before the start of Xanrym's next turn. That should be Theldrin's Fireball. Movement: 10-ft or more of movement to retreat down the stairs and out of sight. Free Action: Talking

(OOC: I put a condition marker on all three living spells. We'll have to remove it for any of them that pass that CHA saving throw.)

That is, the Living Lightning Bolt must make a DC 20 (or DC 24) DEX save for Theldrin's Fireball (depending on whether it also failed its saving throw vs. Xanrym's Bane).
[[ OOC: OK, bardic inspiration not expired. ]]

Since Khessa was reduced, damage is 4 less.
Still a damage total of 10. A good 'welcome'.
Come on Avery, let's try to take this one down 😉

Xanrym and Theldrin are up. Khessa is just in front of you surrounded by living spells.
Oh and Theldrin isn’t able to recall anything anything he’s learned about living spells in this high pressure moment.
