Once Avery has his new armor, and restocked on supplies, he will be ready to travel. In the meantime, he will travel to the Citadel, and look into his old comrades and company, to pick up any tales or stories from the field. Anything they should be concerned about on emerging threats, beasts, of looming conflicts.
After his celebratory night at the High Tower Theldrin spends a few days in a meditative retreat at the Church of St. Cuthbert, also helping Vinme as best he can with any work she might need done around the place. He then sets up his base at the Black Dragon Inn, saving a little coin and being in close proximity to the Unearthed Arcana and Great Library, though he will visit Xanrym periodically at the High Tower.
One night when he feels the moment is right he stays up late drinking tea and sits down to attempt to copy Find Familiar into his spellbook.
After recovering, Toska leaves the city with Strider Silvain and Abramo, she once again thanks you for your support. Liarin also bids farewell to you all to re-enter the wilds. You then spend the next few weeks completing the downtime activities discussed.
Avery will spend the time decompressing, enjoying the night life per say while waiting on his new armor. He will spend some time at the Citadel, to speak with fellow warriors and scouts of the city, trading stories and doing soldier talk.
The following day after successfully copying the spell from the scroll he purchased from Morley, Theldrin has an early dinner and sits down in his room to cast Find Familiar. Carefully aligning the incense and herbs in the brass brazier, he then lights them on fire and sits by the window of his room, breathing in the aromatic smoke and reciting the incantations as the late afternoon sun outside begins to fade into evening.
At last bringing the spell to its conclusion he breathes a tired sigh, then looks with concern around the room. Crestfallen he decides he may have to try again, before hearing a soft scraping sound at the window to his back. He turns to see a dark grey cat with jade green eyes on the window sill, pawing at the glass. Opening the window with a relieved grin, he lets the cat into the room as the twilight deepens in the street outside.
"There you are," he smiles. "We meet at last." The cat looks up from sniffing Theldrin's open spellbook on the table, and seems to give him a wink in the dim light. Theldrin chuckles as he lights the oil lamp and sits back in his chair, the cat climbing into his lap, giving it a scratch behind the ears. "You'll need a name, well one for this world anyway," Theldrin says softly. "Dusk..." he ventures as he watches the light outside continue to fade, "I think we'll call you Dusk."
One night, weeks after your arrival in Greyhawk, the three of you enter the Black Dragon Inn for your weekly catch up, and Miklos the bartender gives you a very fancy looking note, delivered by a messenger earlier that day. It reads, "To the Honorable Members of the Company of the Grey Chain. You have been invited to meet privately with Prince Aubreck Drallion on a matter of utmost importance. Please make haste this evening to the top apartments of the High Tower Inn, where Prince Drallion will be meeting with adventurers on a possible well remunerated appointment." The note is sealed in wax showing a crown floating on waves.
Assuming you head to the High Tower Inn your greeted by Erlynn, who points you up to the top floor. There you walk into a waiting chamber and find three other adventurers waiting as well.
(Here's everyone's chance to introduce one another in character. If any of the original members of the Company want to ask questions along the way to the meeting or anything else, we can sort that out before you head into the meeting as well.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: I'm eager to get to the 3 strangers, but I'll try to resolve the questions first before we get there. But since the strangers are already in the waiting chamber when we arrive, I guess they can describe what the Company of the Grey Chain sees when we arrive there.)

Xanrym thanks Miklos and asks who delivered the message. (He wonders whether it was just a city messenger or whether the "prince" has his own retinue.)
Has Xanrym or the rest of the Company ever heard of Prince Aubreck Drallion, or do any of the them recognize the seal? History: 14
Xanrym talks the letter over with Avery and Theldrin. "It seems that word of our deeds has spread," he says drily, "at least as far as the proprietor of The High Tower Inn." Still, it's the first viable job that they've heard of since arriving in The Free City, and Xanrym is eager to check it out. He has been having fruitful discussions with other scholars in the city, and having access to the Great Library has been fantastic for his own research, but after buying his new cloak from Morley, Xanrym is beginning to worry about "finances." He'd like to avoid having to work as a simple scribe ever again.
Xanrym would definitely vote for going to meet with the prince right away: "The early bird gets the worm!" He's happy to be going back to the High Tower Inn since they're already familiar with that inn. He suggests that it'll put them in a better position to secure the job.
Assuming you head to the High Tower Inn your greeted by Erlynn, who points you up to the top floor. There you walk into a waiting chamber and find three other adventurers waiting as well.
Since Xanrym stayed for several days at the High Tower Inn (even after Theldrin moved to the Black Dragon Inn), he feels that Erlynn would be sympathetic to the Company. He casually asks about Prince Aubreck Drallion before they go up. He's hoping that Erlynn will mention something that will help the Company make a better first impression.
Persuasion: 16 (using Silver Tongue feature), trying to subtly pry for information from Erlynn
Avery as a Knight of the Watch, will try to recall the name (History: 3). "Seems we may have a new patron, we should see what Prince Drallion needs from us."
When the Company arrives, one of the strangers is toying with a dagger in the hands. A tallish, slender human woman with a messily cut head of short black hair, piercing blue eyes and a wicked smile. She wears a black leather jacket and pants, although the jacket is faded from wear and salt and probably should best be considered dark gray. A leather backpack sits near her on the floor, with not easily recognizable objects hanging from it. She remains seated, looking over the newcomers.

When the party walks into the room an elf is looking out the window. He has some parchment out and is currently drawing. Tall with dirty blonde hair, the elf would seem thinner than average if not for the armor he has on. His armor seems worn as if it has been exposed to the elements constantly for years. Next to him propped up against the wall is a wooden shield and trident.
Theldrin nods thoughtfully and agrees the Company should go to the meeting and see what the Prince has in mind. With a grin and a slight wave of the hand, he dismisses Dusk into his pocket dimension, the grey cat disappearing from his lap. He then stands and taking the last sip of wine from his glass, heads to his room to gather his things.
As the group walks into the waiting chamber, the others already here see a human perhaps in his late twenties, with short brown hair and well trimmed beard. Dressed in disheveled yet well made Baklunish clothes that look freshly laundered though threadbare, he neither looks nor sounds like a typical Baklunish when he speaks. "Well met, friends...Theldrin Osgard at your service."
Xanrym - Mikos scratches his head when you ask, "Well, it was a dwarf that dropped it off. In a suit." He says that, clearly thinking it off. You've definitely heard of the name Aubrek Drallion if you've hung around the River Quarter of he city near the High Tower Inn. For the last couple of months, Drallion has been selling off lots of his holdings. Ships, buildings, goods. Apparently charging a pretty fair price as well, not rock bottom, but certainly not enough to be making much of a profit. And when you ask Erlynn about the Prince, she mentions that he tried to get her down on the rental price for the apartments, and she let him have it for cheaper because he wasn't looking so flush.
(I'll let you all keep introducing yourselves, just thought I'd try to catch up with where you're at.)

(OOC: Edited. It sounds like Avery went to the River District to investigate while Xanrym and Theldrin met with the Prince.)
Theldrin enters the room with (presumably) two other men. One is a tall man of slight build who walks with an optimistic bounce in his step. On entering the waiting room, he hesitates a moment, appearing surprised to find that you're already waiting here. But as Theldrin steps forward to introduce himself, the man smiles and steps forward to ask, "Good day! Are you also here to see the prince?" He nods toward the door. Once someone answers that question, he says in an easy, comfortable manner, "Since it seems we'll be waiting here together, we might as well get to know one another."
The man introduces himself as "Xanrym Balhorn," saying, "I'm here with Theldrin and Avery,"gesturing to the third man. Xanrym asks, "Maybe you've heard of us? We're members of The Company of the Grey Chain. Maybe you've heard of us?"
Xanrym's hair is long in back but trimmed closer at the sides. He has a handsome face and is much better-groomed than Theldrin. His slight build and clean, expensive-looking clothing make it clear that he's not accustomed to heavy, manual labor. If he had been here alone when you arrived, you might have mistook Xanrym for some member of the prince's retinue or at least a wealthy merchant or official of some sort. He's not burly enough to be a bodyguard: he's nearly as thin as the elf by the window. But you'd say that he's definitely an adventurer and -- based on the relaxed ease with which he wears the shortswords in their simple sheathes hanging from his belt -- someone who has seen combat.
Xanrym's voice is deep and friendly and expressive. When he says, "Nice to meet you," he really seems sincere.
Xanrym does not appear to be wearing armor, and other than his swords and a couple of daggers, he just has a couple of very full pouches and a small hand drum on his belt. A scroll case is also slung over his shoulder, and he carries a small book in his left hand. A polished stone with a symbol expertly carved into it hangs from his neck on a thin, silver chain. But the most remarkable equipment Xanrym wears is his cloak. It's finely-crafted and marvelously light, and as he moves about the room to shake your hands, its colors almost seem to shift and change.
(OOC: Not sure how common the church of the Far Horizon is or whether anyone would recognize Xanrym's pendant. Syllen would presumably recognize Xanrym's cloak as the type of cloak that the elves make for their scouts and rangers to help them remain hidden.)
Xanrym - Mikos scratches his head when you ask, "Well, it was a dwarf that dropped it off. In a suit." He says that, clearly thinking it off. For the last couple of months, Drallion has been selling off lots of his holdings. Ships, buildings, goods. Apparently charging a pretty fair price as well, not rock bottom, but certainly not enough to be making much of a profit.
Xanrym has been trying to keep his ears open for any rumor of a job, but of course, interesting "stories" always pique his curiosity. He has imagined a few different stories to go with what he's heard about Prince Aubrek Drallion: an honorable man who is trying to raise money to ransom a relative from pirates, or an old man who is selling all of his worldly possessions after a late-in-life religious conversion, or even a proud snob who fell under a fairy's curse and now repents his past actions as he tries to redress the affronted fey. Of course, he knows that most prosaic story is usually the real one: a minor lord fell on hard times and is trying to sell off possessions quietly to pay off his creditors (or to take the money and run off before his creditors can catch him!).
Xanrym tells Theldrin and Avery anything he has heard about Prince Drallion on the way back to the High Tower Inn. Wondering whether his first imagined tale is closer to the truth, he suggests to his friends: "I didn't think much of it at the time, but now we receive this letter. Perhaps the prince has been selling off possessions so that he can pay adventurers to undertake whatever this 'matter of utmost importance' is. I wonder what it could be..."
And as soon as Theldrin and Avery run out of questions the he can answer, Xanrym drifts off into daydreaming for the rest of the walk back to the inn, imagining possible problems that the prince will hire them to solve, each idea more fanciful that the last.
Avery thinks upon it. "Worse case, he is selling off everything he owns to leave nothing behind. What would put him in such a position, if he was doing well assuming in the River District. Perhaps I should head over there and ask around and see if I can pick up some information."
Avery is going to do just that, head over to the River District, and see if he can find a source for information, like a group of merchants or tradesmen, or a shop that would be a good place to start. Investigation 16

Theldrin lets out a little nervous laugh... not really taking offence but suddenly feeling a bit self conscious. He's relatively sure he comes from a more affluent background than most adventurers, and even with the party's success defeating the Naga's cult, still feels like he has a lot to learn. At the same time he's impressed by the woman's apparent toughness. He tries to think of a good reply, but hesitates and looks to see what Xanrym will say.

While her long, wavy blond hair moves freely, her blue eyes actually seem to shine with satisfaction, when the blonde warrior forcefully shakes hands with both of them, introducing herself: "Khessa!
