Khessa's wand goes off, but both creatures make their saves. However, both fail to Xanrym's spell, with the Husk being snapped out of it by Theldrin's Firebolt. Avery steps forward and strikes the Husk with his sword, while Coriana wakes up the Dessicator with one of her strikes hitting. The Husk's tentacles whip out and try to grab Avery, while the Dissicator makes two claw swipes at Khessa and Coriana:
Tentacles against Avery Attack: 26 Damage: 18 Psychic Damage, and Avery is Grappled and Stunned until the grapple ends.
Flaming Claw against Khessa Attack: 16 Damage: 17 Slashing and 15 Fire
Flaming Claw against Coriana Attack: 17 Damage: 17 Slashing and 11 Fire
You all are up. The Dessicator makes fiery swipes at your front liners, while the Illithid Husk has Avery Grappled, it's mouth opens and starts to put Avery's head in it.
Khessa hears the Dessiccator's claws screeching ominously on her armor and realizes that if the monster were to land a slightly more fortunate blow, it might be able to wound her. She therefore utters a short incantation, summoning illusory duplicates of herself.
The blonde arcane warrior then realizes the mortal danger Avery is in—and the fact that the brave Knight's position prevents her from reaching the Illithid Husk and finishing it off! With a strangled groan of anguish, she switches her Greatsword for the Pike, for greater range, and steps aside, telepathically commanding Anator to distract the target.
As the bat begins to fly near the Illithid Husk's head, the tall adventuress, already poised and ready, plunges her Pike, hoping to either finish the monster... or at least tempt it to fight her or the others, rather than eat.
[[ OOC: Action: Cast Mirror Image. Movement: One step to the side. Anator's Action: Help. Action Surge: Attack Illithid Husk with the Pike. ]]

Khessa's Pike Attack: 8 Damage: 9 (piercing)
If hits, she pushes the Illithid Husk uno square back (thanks to Push mastery property) hopefully forcing it to let Avery go (no idea if the monster can, instead, keep the grapple and drag poor Avery with itself - up to DM).

With bardic inspiration (+1d8), the to hit roll would become: 10
If still a miss, the Bardic Inspiration is not expended.

OK, I'm afraid Dice Gods do not like Avery at the moment (or maybe they don't like me).

(OOC: @drumdigby - What Xanrym does this round depends on what he sees when he moves out of his hiding spot...)
Round 2: Xanrym
Xanrym is initially happy to see that his spell seems to affect the creatures, but from his hiding spot, he can see Khessa and Coriana trying to fend off the Desiccator's flaming claws anyway. He moves south again to get a better view of their opponents, and he sees the Illithid Husk is trying to pull Avery's head into its mouth! He barely has time to register his horror at that sight before the bright flash (and bang) of Coriana's lightning and Syllen's radiant arrow strike the creature.
If the Illithid Husk is still alive -- and trying to eat Avery's head! -- Xanrym tries to kill the Illithid Husk or get it to move away from Avery by summoning a bonfire in its space.
If the Illithid Husk is dead or has at least released Avery, then Xanrym tries to drive the giant Desiccator back to give Khessa and Coriana the opportunity to attack it again as it retreats.
Movement: ~20-ft of movement to shift 10-ft SW to get a clear line of sight to their opponents and then moving right back to the same hiding spot after taking his action. Action Option 1: Cast spell Create Bonfire on the Illithid Husk's square The Illithid Husk must make a DC 17 DEX saving throw or take damage: 9 (fire) Option 2: Cast spell (upcast LVL 2 slot) Dissonant Whispers on the Giant Desiccator The Desiccator must make a DC 17 WIS save or immediately use its reaction to safely move as far as its speed allows (north) away from Xanrym. It also takes damage: 15 (psychic). On a successful save: no forced movement and half the damage: 7 (psychic). Free Action: Dropping concentration on Hypnotic Pattern.
Concentration: Option 1: Create Bonfire, round 1 of 10 While the bonfire lasts, any creature who enters bonfire’s space for the first time on a turn or ends its turn there must also make a DC 17 DEX saving throw or take damage: 8 (fire). Option 2: None
Bardic Inspiration: Khessa (since post #6159) Avery (since post #6181) Coriana (since post #6189)
Once within the next 1 hour, when the you fail a D20 Test, you can use the bardic inspiration to roll **1d8** and add the number rolled to the d20, possibly turning failure into a success. If you use the bardic inspiration, but the D20 Test still fails, you keep the inspiration die because of Xanrym's Unfailing Inspiration.
(OOC: Note that both Khessa and Coriana still have a 1d8 bardic inspiration die because of Unfailing Inspiration.)

Khessa throws up Mirror Image and tries to get an attack on the Husk, but it evades her. Coriana lines up a Lightning Bolt against both of them, but her Tentacle is unable to hurt the Dessicator through it's tough hide. She's healed by Syllen, who hits the Husk with his Luminous Arrow. Xanrym's Bonfire is summoned, but the Husk is able to dodge out of the way, right into Theldrin's Firebolt. It's looking beat up but not dead. It tries to Extract Avery's brain, while the Dessicator tries to attack Coriana and Khessa again.
Avery DC 15 CON Save or 55 Piercing Damage: 24 . Half Damage on a Success
Claw against Khessa: Attack: 25 Damage: 19 Slashing and 11 Fire
Claw against Coriana: Attack: 20 Damage: 26 Slashing and 14 Fire
Avery's helmet is ripped off by the Illithid Husk, it's tentacles worming it's way into his head; devouring his brain and throwing his corpse on the floor.
You all are up. The Husk has just consumed Avery's brain and is coming for the rest of you. The Dessicator continues to take swings at you.
(Note for @Aaggie. It’s actually pointed out that you have a Bardic Inspiration you can add to possibly avoid this fate. Waiting for you to roll your d8.)
