Seeing the Bloodhulk fall, Xanrym releases his concentration on Bane. Fadheela vanishes in the chaos, but Khessa chases after the trail of lightning that connects her to their enemy. As Coriana finishes off Fadheela, the Mezzoloth briefly petrifies again, allowing Xanrym (and the berserker) to pull free from its grasp. He's just about to congratulate his companions and celebrate their victory when the Mezzoloth reanimates. Then he hears Orinielle's voice from the other chamber. (OOC: It's not clear to me whether Orinielle is speaking to us from S32 or whether she has entered S35.)
A moment passes, the two Mezzoloth's frozen again. Then all of a sudden, the three Mezzoloth's and their companion with the devil wings all turn back into their demon forms. Thewinged demon, a half-human Cambion, addresses you: "Who are you and where is the traitor Fadheela? She will answer to me Orinielle , and then to Iuz himself for betraying the Vanguard of Sertrous!"
Xanrym thinks quickly as he moves clockwise around the statue (avoiding coming close to the Mezzoloth again) passing Coriana and ending up in the middle of the room. Orinielle has been petrified for a while and doesn't seem to know anything about them. Perhaps the cambion was petrified even before The Company came down to the Great Grotto. He knows about Iuz the Evil. That name combined with Orinielle's fiendish appearance reminds him of the Nithrissa, the tiefling knight of the Iuz's Order of Desolation who helped The Company kill the naga.
The Company has heard about "the Vanguard" before -- Xeron mentioned it in his letter -- but this is the first time he's heard mention of "Sertrous." It must be some sort of arch-fiend. Does Xanrym recognize that name? Religion / History: 13 (in game log))
Xanrym feels confident with Syllen's flock of crows nearby and all of Avery's berserkers. He decides to pretend to be part of Xeron's cult to see whether they can get any information out of Orinielle. He doubts that they'll be able to get out of here without fighting her, but perhaps she can help them find the Forgotten King's bones. He glances around as his companions for a moment and makes a gesture to indicate that they should stand down but be ready.
Xanrym takes out his spear, places the butt of the spear on the floor, and leans on it. Facing Orinielle from a distance, he answers her question by saying, "When Xeron learned that Fadheela had betrayed the Vanguard, he sent us here to punish her. I'm afraid that she cannot answer to anything in her...uh... 'current state.' When Fadheela trapped you, had she already received the Forgotten King's bones? Or was she still awaiting Xeron's couriers?"
If she hesitates or doesn't answer, Xanrym says, "We defeated the traitor, Fadheela, and now we must recover the bones -- if she still has them -- so that we could deliver them to the Vanguard ourselves! You should thank us, Orinielle! We could have just left you here, a pretty stone statue to adorn this necromancer's tower! But I hoped that you might at least have some useful information for us." He uses a contemptuous tone, implying that the cambion had failed because she let herself be petrified by Fadheela. Deception: 18 (min result from Silver Tongue feature)

Khessa pats Coriana on the shoulder, her spell's electricity dying along with her target's life: "Well done, Captain! And now, let's see what 'parting gift' our prey has left us..."
The blonde arcane warrior arrives in time to hear the loquacious bard trying to convince the band of newly un-petrified villains to provide information, and she strides, unhurried and confident, to his side, like a bodyguard who has just completed his duty... and is ready to do it again, if necessary!
Orinielle hears the bards words and looks at your group. A contemptuous laughter escapes her mouth, “Iuz sent a bunch of humans to take out Fadheela after some of his greatest warriors failed? I don’t think so.”
Just before she can give whatever order she planned, a figure steps forward from the corridor to the south. (this conversation is happening in area 32)
Beautiful in its splendour, the winged angel addresses Orinielle: “Cambion of Iuz! Suffer the wrath of St Cuthbert for imprisoning one of his Deva; Balthial!”
Balthial draws a cudgel and points it at Orinielle, who looks confused. However, she smiles and gestures for the Mezzoloth to attack the angel. A planar battle takes place in front of your eyes.
(Now you all can choose to engage with this or not. There is a door to the north if you wanted to leave here and leave then to it. Although you do see a large chest in the south-west part of the room if you wanted to check that.)
(OOC: @drumdigby - If we want to jump into this fight, are you re-rolling initiative? Or do the new opponents just slot into where Fadheela and the Bloodhulk were in initiative, and we're basically back at the top of round 5 now?)
"A divine emissary of St. Cuthbert!", Xanrym breathes, awestruck. "We must help them! Balthial shall not fall to Iuz's fiends. Quickly, let's take care of the insectoid fiends so that Balthial can focus on Orinielle!"
Xanrym moves forward to get a view into the other room (S32) and attempts to make the Mezzoloths more vulnerable to Syllen's crows and to make them less effective in their attacks.
Movement: 30-ft of movement to move toward the door to S32 and then back to the north of S35. Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Bane on the 3 mezzoloths. "Excellent work!" Theldrin beams as he congratulates Coriana and Khessa once he sees Fadheela go down. He breathes a sigh of relief and sets his mirror down, no longer worried that he or another party member will be turned to stone.
He starts towards the outer room to retrieve his staff, then quickly realizes the battle hasn't ended quite yet and aims a Magic Missile blast at Mezzoloth 2.
"Indeed, Xanrym!" Khessa is no less enthusiastic than the bard, who simply stole the words right out of her mouth, while she was already preparing to support the celestial against the fiends. "We're with you, angel!"
And, convinced that the priority is to clear the path so that the berserkers can storm the demons and significantly outnumber them, the blonde arcane warrior switches her magical Greatsword for her Pike and attempts to impale the Mezzoloth on the threshold [[ OOC: Mezzoloth 2 ]] to push it further into the room.
The tall adventuress sends Anator to distract the target, then dashes forward...
