“They seemed to not be very trusting of others and if option one was to fail it might be hard for us to help. Given that both options do risk us being split up I feel option two is a little safer. That is assuming we can get into the room.”
Since the consensus of The Company seems to be option 2, Xanrym says, "If we hurry, we may be able to catch Warduke just as / just after he enters the room. I can try to keep the doorway to Nithrissa's cabin clear and open for just long enough for you and Coriana to get into the room. Just remember that there's not much space on the ship, so be careful where you stand, invisible or not!"
If no one objects, Xanrym hurries from their room and tries to find Warduke as the Hierarch makes his way from his conversation with the head priest to his meeting with Nithrissa. He hopes that first Syllen and then Coriana are fast with their spells and are following quietly just behind him.
(OOC: Assuming that he spots Warduke on his way to meet with Nithrissa...)
As soon as he finds Hierarch Warduke, Xanrym will wait until the Hiearch about to enter Nithrissa's cabin. Then he will cross to her cabin quickly, trusting to his cloak to help him blend in with the clutter on the deck and not draw their attention. Stealth: 23 with advantage from the Cloak of Elvenkind
Once Xanrym gets to the door, ideally just before it closes behind Hierarch Warduke, Xanrym pushes the door open as he knocks on it, saying, "Hello, Nithrissa? I wanted to ask -- oh!" He stumbles to a halt just inside the doorway as though surprised to find Hiearch Warduke there. "Ah...excuse me, Nithrissa! I didn't realize that you were with company!" He glances back at the door as though thinking of leaving, but he's also ensuring that the door is open and clear for his invisible friends. He looks back to Hierarch Warduke then to Nithrissa and again at Warduke as though realization is dawning on him: "Ahhhh!" And then, leaning slightly toward Warduke, he says sotto voce, "Perhaps this is the alliance you spoke of?" He taps the side of his nose and nods as though approving of Warduke's choice. Then he clears his throat loudly as though mustering up his courage in the face of both Warduke's and Nithrissa's annoyance. He starts again with a bow toward Nithrissa, "My deepest apologies, Nithrissa! As I said when we met again yesterday, I've often thought of you and wondered what you've been up to since we last saw you in the Rushmoors! I'm happy to say that the Company is making good progress toward our task for Captain Ironsmile, and I think that I will have some free time before the ship lands. I just wanted to ask you whether you would also be free tomorrow. Perhaps we could share a meal tomorrow and exchange news?" Deception: 23 (in game log) with advantage from Enhance Ability
Xanrym tries to gauge the anger / annoyance from both parties and speak just fast enough to keep them from interrupting or throwing him out of the room. But he wants to speak as slowly as he can to give more time for Syllen and Coriana to sneak into the room. Once he gets Nithrissa's answer, either affirmative or not, he'll excuse himself and slowly move out of the room, pulling the door closed as he goes.
Bardic Inspiration: Coriana (since post #6850) Syllen (since post #6892) Once within the next 1 hour, when the you fail a D20 Test, you can use the bardic inspiration to roll 1d8 and add the number rolled to the d20, possibly turning failure into a success. If you use the bardic inspiration, but the D20 Test still fails, you keep the inspiration die because of Xanrym's Unfailing Inspiration.
Nithrissa and Warduke glare at Xanrym, with the Tiefling exclaiming, “Get out! Any business we may have is secondary to all. If I have time, I might be able to meet you, but you will leave my room and not bother me anymore!”
(Im going to need Stealth checks from Coriana and Syllen if there both gong in the room.)
Warduke and Nithrissa talk to one another, dismissing any niceties and moving straight onto business. Nithrissa asks for Warduke to deliver the letter straight to her, but he refuses. “I will accept no less than an audience with The Old One himself. When we land, I expect you to set up this meeting.”
Nithrissa bristles at this, not wanting to act as a mediator or worse, messenger.
(OOC: @drumdigby - I suspect that until Coriana and Syllen can't really do anything other than hide and listen until Warduke leaves Nithrissa's cabin so that they can try to escape. So, unless they're discovered, you could probably move the narrative ahead to the point where Warduke leaves Nithrissa's cabin or to where we're getting to ~20 minutes left on the Invisibility spell's duration.)
Nithrissa and Warduke glare at Xanrym, with the Tiefling exclaiming, “Get out! Any business we may have is secondary to all. If I have time, I might be able to meet you, but you will leave my room and not bother me anymore!”
Xanrym apologizes and hurriedly leaves the room, closing the door as he leaves. Once he's out of Nithrissa's cabin, he returns to the rest of the Company and says, "OK. Hopefully, they're in the room." He waits a few minutes, assuming that if Coriana and Syllen did not make it into the room, they will at least return and let the rest of the group know.
But Xanrym also realizes that there's a flaw in his plan. If Nithrissa and Warduke speak with each other for a full hour, the spell will wear off, and their friends will suddenly appear in the room, no longer invisible. He suggests, "If Warduke is still in there after 30 minutes, we should start planning for a way to get them out. Until then, if they are discovered, they may need our help."
Xanrym suggests that Avery, Khessa, and Theldrin find ways to occupy themselves somewhere that's within view of Nithrissa's cabin. That way, if there is a problem, the Company will be close enough to help their friends. In the meantime, he's going to let Sir Kipeien know what's going. He will try to sneak down to the Knights of Hart's room so that he can talk to Sir Kipeien without revealing that the Company is actually helping the "Green Cloaks." Stealth: 24 (in game log), advantage from the Cloak of Elvenkind
Assuming that he can find Sir Kipeien, Xanrym wants to say:
Warduke has the letter, but The Company has not gotten it yet.
Warduke and Nithrissa are meeting right now. The Company is using magic to spy on them, but "if we're discovered, the situation on the ship could change rapidly."
The Company's goal is still to get the letter from Warduke, but Xanrym warns that if we are discovered in our attempt, a big fight could break out. He tries to convince Sir Kipeien to help The Company in the event that an all-out fight breaks out on the ship. He reasons that we are natural allies. While a fight on the ship is to be avoided, if The Company is defeated, it would leave the Knights of the Hart outnumbered and already under suspicion. "I hope that we can count on your knights to come to our assistance if we find ourselves fighting the Horned Society, the Broken Crown, and Nithrissa all at once." Persuasion: 24 (in game log), advantage from Enhance Ability
And, finally, he warns the knight: "The Broken Crown plans to throw you off the ship to your death tomorrow morning. You must plan to leave the ship before then whether or not we've secured the letter for you."

Theldrin does his best to find something to do near Nithrissa's cabin that won't attract suspicion. (OOC: not sure exactly where her cabin is so not providing detail here yet)
Khessa approaches Theldrin and comments: "Seems like a great time to sit back and compare (magical) notes... Out here, in the warmth of the sun and the vitality of the breeze... Better than being locked in a cramped cabin, right?"
The blonde arcane warrior improvises two seats with two large ropes, or two crates, or two barrels, and begins to leaf through her imposing tome with its spiderweb-patterned cover, showing the war mage the latest connections she's come up with and her latest arcane insights.
[[ OOC: We certainly don't have time to copy spells right now... but if Theldrin wants to think about copying something from Khessa's spellbook in the meantime, her spells are: 1st: Comprehend Languages, Detect Magic, Expeditious Retreat, Feather Fall, Find Familiar, Magic Missile, Protection from Evil and Good, Sleep, Witch Bolt. 2nd: Blur, Mirror Image, Scorching Ray, Web ]]
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Theldrin grins and nods, happily joining Khessa at her improvised study area. He pulls out his spellbook, and compares notes with her as he discreetly keeps watch out of the corner of his eye on any noticeable proceedings at the cabin.
Coriana and Syllen - Nithrissa demands of Warduke, “First, show me the letter. So that I might confirm that it’s worth Iuz spending his time on you.” Warduke glares for a moment before reaching into his pocket.
Xanrym - You’re able to find Sir Kipeien and confirm all those details, “If a fight does break out, we will of course help you. Although it is still my belief that you are best placed to retrieve it covertly.”
Xanrym - You’re able to find Sir Kipeien and confirm all those details, “If a fight does break out, we will of course help you. Although it is still my belief that you are best placed to retrieve it covertly.”
Xanrym says enthusiastically, "Oh, yes! I have great confidence that the Company of the Grey Chain will secure the letter. Or, at least, we'll relay to you what it says. Ideally, we'll do that without the Horned Society even realizing it. But The Company has also been in some tight situations together, and I find that it's always best to make contingency plans -- just in case events take a turn for the worse." He graciously thanks Sir Kipeien for any support that the Knights may have to provide and then excuses himself to return (to the main deck, I think?) to casually occupy himself while he keeps watch on Nithrissa's door and marks the time, waiting to see whether the rest of The Company will need to stage some sort of event or diversion to get Syllen and Coriana out of Nithrissa's cabin before their Invisibility wears off.
Warduke holds out the letter, but when Nithrissa holds her hand out to have it he snatches it back: “That will be enough. If you can’t set up a meeting with Iuz then I will find another who will.” This seems to annoy Nithrissa but she acquiesces. Syllen saw some fanciful handwriting on the letter addressed to Iuz, but can’t see the contents inside. Warduke turns to leave the room
Assuming Syllen and Coriana also leave, they’re able to slip out the door as Warduke does. He doesn’t notice the others hanging around, and you’re all able to meet back up either in your room or elsewhere on the ship to carry out the next part of your plan.
Upon hearing the news, Khessa becomes even more eager to steal the letter: "We'd save the rest of the world a lot of trouble by getting hold of it. The evil factions would still be suspicious and glaring at each other, rather than joining forces. But the point is, we don't have a pickpocket..."
"Perhaps" the blonde arcane warrior thinks "we should first retrieve what we need, then, just before leaving the ship, try to steal the letter from the Warduke. We know whose pocket he keeps it in. One of us approaches while invisible and, though not stealthily, reaches into his pocket and steals the letter, running away. The Warduke will notice, granted... but he should be too surprised to prevent the theft—at most, he'll react at the theft by shouting or trying to figure out where the thief has gone. And we could quickly deliver the letter to the Knights and jump overboard."
Theldrin grins, "Well, Xanrym is good at picking locks... maybe he could try his hand?" (OOC: I think Theldrin would take some convincing to be the one to attempt this but could be talked into it).
He continues as he rubs his beard thoughtfully, "It's a good idea to try to secure the bones first and save this until we are ready to depart the ship."
