Greechak looks at you all. First pleadingly, then with rage. “Fine.” He then rallies his last remaining soldier with a goblin battle cry, they attack the ghoul.
Greechak Scimitar 1 against ghoul Attack: 7 Damage: 5
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The Scimitar slices into the shadowed figure, but the blade passes through like through a curtain. And the shadow’s form mends back together, as though less effected by the strike. Greechak sees this as well, and says something to the other goblin in goblinoid. They start farting their eyes to the east, perhaps looking to make their escape. But not before the shadows strike with their strength draining touch.
Shadow Strength Drain against Greechak Attack: 24 Damage: 21 and his Strength is reduced by 4
Shadow Strength Drain against Goblin Attack: 17 Damage: 13 and its Strength is reduced by 4
Avery remains on his guard, warily watching to see what the Goblin does, but he knows more and likely it will run. What concerns him the most is the ghoul.
(OOC: Does Xanrym recognize what theses undead are? And, in particular, does he know whether they're affected by psychic damage. It's the same bonus for him whether it's Nature or Arcana: 22.)
@drumdigby - Did Xanrym know anything about these particular types of undead? He has fought ghouls and skeletons, but I don't know whether he knows anything about undead shadows.
Theldrin watches to see what happens next. He remembers the Protection from Evil and Good scroll he has in his pack, and considers how he could use it to protect a party member against undead, but doesn't want to make any moves the shadows might interpret as aggressive.
Xanrym - Sorry I forgot to say. You would know from your studies that these are indeed Shadows, they consume the strength of their victims. If they reduce your Strength to zero using their strength drain, you instantly die and come back as a shadow later.
If no one takes an action this turn, Greechak will use his bonus action disengage and then use his action to dash away towards the east. He’ll yell at you as he goes, “This isn’t the last you’ll see of Greechak! Long live the Black Knife Clan!.”
The shadows will then meld back into the shadows of the trees in the same direction.
You’re all left I looking at the bodies of the goblins and the ghoul in the clearing. The Dim Forrest returns to its eerie quiet.
Avery will remain in position while on guard, not to appear aggressive to the ghoul as the goblins run away. He knows their task lies in a different direction then facing down a ghoul and the depth of the Dim Forest for now.
Theldrin lets out a long sigh of relief after waiting a few minutes to make sure the shadows have moved on. He doesn't even want to search the bodies in case more undead are coming looking for whatever the goblins stole, nor does he want to risk angering them by searching the ghoul's body. He walks slowly over to the campfire and sits down, taking some time to unwind after the encounter.

Xanrym also waits a moment before he finally relaxes and puts away his crossbow. He says, "Thanks, Avery! That could have gone badly if you hadn't given us warning." He briefly confirms that Oliver is still in alive and bound even if he's asleep. He also checks that Toska is unharmed and that Heckle is OK.
On the other hand, Xanrym is less worried about searching the dead bodies, especially the goblins. "No reason to let their gear go to waste out here. Avery and Liarin can give a shout -- or a growl! -- if the shadows come back. Of course, it's not like goblin gear is often well-maintained or valuable enough to be of much interest." He searches the 4 goblins and gathers up their weapons, valuables, and any other gear that might be useful. He looks especially for anything that looks "out of place" on a goblin since that might be something stolen from the Ghostlord. Investigation23
If nothing bothers them while Xanrym searches the goblins, he'll take a quick look at the ghoul to see whether it carried any gear. (Ghouls normally don't, but then again, could don't normally talk.) He's especially curious to see whether it has any badge or mark that would indicate its affiliation with the Ghostlord. Investigation17
The goblins have only usual goblin stuff, scimitars, shortbows, arrows. Greechak must have been the one carrying whatever they stole from the Ghostlord.
You’re right that the ghoul has nothing on it. But it does have a brand on its arm, possibly from its previous life as a human. The head of a lion, with fiery eyes.
If no one else has anything they want to do, Toska will help drag the bodies away from your campsite so you can continue your rest. Nothing happens for the rest of the evening and the sun comes up, letting some dimness to fade from the forrest. You can all mark off a Long Rest as you wake up in the morning.

With the dawn of a new day, after rising early to study his spellbook, Theldrin's mind turns back to the problem of what to do with Oliver. It seems that continuing to bring him closer to the naga may destroy him soon. As the party gets ready to resume travel, he brings the group together away from where Oliver might overhear, to discuss.
After breakfast in the morning, Xanrym gathers his gear. He puts one of the shortbows and a quiver of arrow on Heckle, just in case he runs out of crossbow bolts.
When Theldrin brings up the subject of Oliver, Xanrym thinks that they should stick to the original plan. Give him a few days of food and send him off to the north. If the man makes good time, he could reach the main road and turn east toward Hookhill before the end of the day. If Oliver is lucky, he could walk there in a few days' time, and once he's out of the Dim Forest, he may convince a cart or wagon on the road to give him a ride to Hookhill. If he's unlucky, he'll run afoul of goblins or beast of the forest before he makes it to a town, but regarding those dangers, Xanrym says, "May the gods keep him safe! With the squirrel's guidance, we have made good time. This will be our fourth day of travel from Orlane, so we should reach the naga's lair today or tomorrow, I think. With any luck, we will defeat the naga soon, and Oliver will be freed from her enchantment before any harm befalls him and before he can do any more mischief."
Avery, preparing his gear for the journey, nods in agreement. "Then hopefully we can put this matter to rest, and remove this curse from the good people, and Oliver. They are innocents in this."

Greechak Scimitar 1 against ghoul Attack: 7 Damage: 5
Greechak Scimitar 2 against ghoul Attack: 22 Damage: 7
The ghoul finally crumbles under Greechak’s assault. The other goblin, spurred on by Greechak’s fearlessness, attacks one of the shadows:
Goblin against shadow Attack: 13 Damage: 8

Shadow Strength Drain against Greechak Attack: 24 Damage: 21 and his Strength is reduced by 4
Shadow Strength Drain against Goblin Attack: 17 Damage: 13 and its Strength is reduced by 4
The last goblin dies, withered by the Strength Drain. But Greechak dodges out of the way.
You all are up, any plans to do anything now?
I didn’t edit the post because I didn’t want to muck with the dice rolls. But obviously the goblins are darting their eyes, not farting.

(OOC: I'm pretty sure that Greechak killed the ghoul in the previous round.)

Liarin is eager to set out as soon as possible the next day. "Group this large is just asking to run into trouble."
