Xanrym tries to get the blood sucker off himself but can’t quite get an angle on it. Then when he hits the one on Avery, the blow chops off the beasts leg, but the bid mosquito stays attached to the knight. Avery tries to attack the turtle, but the blood draining mosquito’s on him keep him from breaking through the turtle’s incredibly thick outer shell.
Despite its size, the turtle is able to dodge out of the way from the full effect of Theldrin’s spell. It then snaps at Liarin while the blood suckers drain the blood of their victims. They don’t need to make saving throws as they are already attached to you all:
Blood Drain 1 against Avery: 4
Blood Drain 2 against Avery: 7
Blood Drain 3 against Liarin: 4
Blood Drain 4 against Xanrym: 6
Attack: 22 Damage: 17 Piercing
You all are up, Liarin and Avery tackle the turtle while the blood suckers are doing their thing.
One of the mosquitos falls out of the sky dead, while the giant turtle continues towards the bonfire toward you all. While the turtle will arrive next turn, the bird mosquitos attack now with their blood sucking bite.
Blood Drain 1 against Avery Attack: 16 Damage: 5 Piercing and the beast attaches itself to you.
Blood Drain 2 against Avery Attack: 16 Damage: 4 Piercing and the beast attaches itself to you.
Blood Drain 3 against Liarin Attack: 15 Damage: 7 Piercing and the beast attaches itself to you.
Blood Drain 4 against Xanrym Attack: 18 Damage: 4 Piercing and the beast attaches itself to you.
You all are up. The bird mosquitos are trying to suck your blood while the turtle hurtles towards you.
Avery's AC is 17, the attack would miss would it not?
Xanrym tries to get the blood sucker off himself but can’t quite get an angle on it. Then when he hits the one on Avery...
Xanrym was only moving to the bloodsuckers on Avery if he first successfully killed the one on himself. Otherwise, both attacks should have been on the one attached to Xanrym. (The bonus action attacks also said, "bloodsucker #4 or one attached to Avery.")
If he manages to kill the one attached to him, he'll move to Avery to stab one of the ones attached to him,
Did you also see the correction to the damage roll for the 2nd attack? It should be 4, not 1. Xanrym drew his second shortsword, but I accidentally pasted a line for an attack with a dagger (i.e., should have rolled a d6 for damage, not a d4).
(OOC: @Aaggie, I think that Avery's AC should still be 16. We talked about upgrading armor (splint for Avery and studded leather for Xanrym), but we never got to do that before leaving Orlane. It would have required visiting the blacksmith and delaying the departure from Orlane for an extra day. The party decided to skip it and leave Orlane before another night passed. So, Avery still just has his original chain mail armor.)
(OOC: See my previous post about possible issues with the results of round 1. Xanrym's goals for round 2 are the same no matter how @drumdigby resolves that, but since I'm posting before that's resolved, this description may be a little messy.)
Xanrym focuses on getting rid of the bloodsuckers attached to him first (if any) and Avery (once the one attached to Xanrym is dead). That is, the priority of his targets is bloodsucker #4, #1, and #2, in that order. He only switches to the next target once he kills the previous one. He leaves it to the others to fight the turtle for now. Xanrym keeps Avery between him and the turtle, and once he moves on to dealing with Avery's bloodsuckers, he merely darts in to stab at the attached creatures whenever he can do that without exposing himself to the turtle.
Movement: as described above, remaining close to Avery but on the opposite side of the turtle.
Action: Attack the next bloodsucker, Shortsword: 17, Damage: 5 (piercing)
Xanrym OOC - So I think the only thing that should change from my last post is that you were actually able to kill the blood sucker on you. So ignore the extra damage. Otherwise we should be good mathematically. The other blood suckers were able to stick onto Avery.
Avery finds an opening the the turtles defence and makes a cut on its leg as Theldrin’s missiles blast into it. While Liarin’s bite bounces off its shell, the claw strikes true. The turtle is really angry now. Xanrym is making good work of the blood suckers, killing both attached to Avery with his swords.
The last blood sucker sucks Liarin’s blood while the turtle makes another bite attack against her:
Blood Suck against Liarin: 4
Turtle bite against Liarin Attack: 14 Damage: 18 Piercing
You actually hit and kill it with the bite. So I’ll assume you aimed the claws at the turtle. Which also hits, despite the beasts tough shell on the top of its body.
Xanrym sees the turtle's powerful bite snap down on the bear and worries that they're not going to last long against this opponent, not after being weakened by the bloodsuckers. He mocks the turtle, hoping to make it miss on its next attempted bite. Then he tries to encourage Avery.
Xanrym says, "It may be big, but it's still a turtle. If we could flip it over, maybe it wouldn't be able to chase us." While he talks, he drops his swords on the ground and gets out his crossbow.
Movement: None. Keeping Liarin and Avery between him and the turtle. Action: Cast spell Vicious Mockery on the turtle WIS 13 save or the turtle takes 1 (psychic) damage and has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn. Bonus Action: Grant bardic inspiration to Avery. Avery can roll 1d6 once (in the next 10 mins) and add the number to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. Free Action: Talking. Object interaction: dropping swords and drawing his crossbow.
(OOC: Oops! Copy-and-paste error. The off-hand attack should have been with his other shortsword for 1 (piercing) damage.)
Avery will focus on the advancing turtle: Attack 7 / damage 14
Giant turtle Dex Save: 20

No more blood suckers left. But the turtle is still looking very well.

Round 3: Xanrym
