"I'm not sure I know of a way to do that. But it's an interesting idea Calim!" Sabina looks across all the others in the room, tired from their recent adventures. "I have things I could attend to while you all rest. But I'd be happy to meet you later. If you'll have me."
Volneer smiles and produces four gold pieces. "I could use some time to meditate, fortunately, I have no need of sleep, so I will guard the entrance to the cave in hopes that nothing dangerous will creep into the town tonight." He will pay for his comrades' rooms and then take his leave. He will set up camp outside of the cave and start a *long rest*.
Kneecap looks from Calim, to Sabina, to Volneer, trying to keep up with the conversation.
He finally stands and says, “We’ll I’m not going to say NO to some rest in a bed. I will see you all in the morning.” And off he walks to get his room and to snore what’s left of the night/morning away.
Calim also heads back to his humble home, it is not unusual for him to return home late. Nor is it unusual for Elena to not yet be home...or had she been home and then gone already. Either way, he is alone again when he voices a simple prayer to his love, now lost, "Mara, the time has come for me to head back out into the world. I regret not one moment of the life we had together, a wondrous adventure and what a safe and good home we built. But, I want to invite you to bless this next thing, as I take up my sword again. I might see you soon, or I might make you proud. Either way, I do this in memory and in honor of us. For Elena and Darius. For our grandchild yet to come. And, as he has never left my heart, for Orion...our guiding star. Good night, my love."
Weary and contented, this is the first night in some time that he doesn't need to travel so far back in time to find something to make him proud. He falls asleep with a smile on his face.
Volneer, please roll 1D12 posted either here or in OOC. If the result is an 11 or 12, please roll an additional perception check! Once this is posted, we’ll get those long rests in and start the new day!
Sabina departs, heading on to Silverleaf Herbs and Alchemy to see how she might be able to help out. She is of course distracted, continuing to check the time so she can return to meet the others at the proper time.
Each of you earn a nice long rest in your respective beds. Some of you for the very first time in westhaven… the rest goes undisturbed, and as you come from the long rest, the day is active. The town is bustling with life and activity, it seems many did not give a second thought to the quake yesterday, and with the light of a new day brings the errands of every day life for the majority of the citizens of west haven.
Volneer opens his eyes after exactly 8 hours and stands up from his bed. His meditation had gone well, and his mental exercises had rejuvenated his spirit. He makes himself some breakfast, quickly eats, and heads to the alchemy shop to see if he can meet up with Sabina so he can get chance to talk to her in private.
Sabina makes her way to the shop and finds that Elana has quite a few tasks for her. Potion materials to grind, other items to boil, glass vials to clean - the list, and the work, goes on and on. Time passes by quickly as she works until finally the chores are completed and she has a moment to pause. She chats amicably with Elana for a bit, asking a few questions about some of the formulations she makes. With the day growing later the flow of customers increases a tiny bit, so she helps to greet them and find them the herbs and potions they are looking for. Although she's kept busy, her mind keeps drifting to the group of explorers she had met. She keeps checking the clock and counting the time until they will reconvene.
When Volneer comes into the shop, Sabina is immediately alert. "Elana, let me help this man. I happen to know him from Urd. Can you believe it?" She steps briskly over towards the half-elf. "Volneer! What brings you to Silverleaf Herbs and Alchemy?"
"Actually, I do have something you could help me with. You see, while down in that cave I fought this sentient jelly summoned by cultists. After defeating it, we searched the room left by them. We found these," He rummages through the pack, producing a pouch. From the pouch he produces the summoning supplies. "How much would it cost to identify these?"
"Oh?" However much she might try to hide it, Sabina is extremely curious about the summoning supplies. "I would love to help you look into these! I'll bet we could figure out a thing or two about what they were meant for." She pauses a moment as she realizes the initial question was more about cost. "As for cost... hmm... I'd probably have to talk to Elana about that. Elana Silverleaf, the proprietress of the shop." She looks about to see where Elana is at. Spotting her across the shop with another customer, she glances back at Volneer. "Hold on a moment while I go ask. I'd love to help, but it is her shop and all."
She hurries off, speaks briefly to Elana, then comes back. "She'll be over in a moment. Obviously, she was with another customer." She does however glance down to look over the items. (OOC Insight Check to infer more about the items: 18; Also leaving it to the DM about costs. Sabina would do it for free, but she'd defer to Elana since Volneer came here asking to pay for a service.)
Looking over the collection of summoning supplies Volneer presents, Sabina recognize these items [as described in OOC]. Intellectually, she knows that the combination of these supplies don't produce any sort of magic or alchemical value. Her intuition tells her that the source of the magic used for the summoning ritual was not sourced from these items, however, they may have been used as a catalyst, or to augment the source of power used in the ritual--whatever it may be.
Still waiting for Elana, Sabina starts to speak. "Those items don't seem to be anything that produce a magical or alchemical effect on their own. Whatever ritual was being done would have relied on something else to drive it. Though these might have been catalysts for that process." She pauses a moment, taking a quick peek back towards the shop owner before her attention returns to Volneer. "You said you found these down in that cave? And you fought a jelly? What sort was it? And you say it was sentient as well?"
"I honestly don't know. The cultists summoned a beast, something that was... it was a pile of sentient acid, and it could attack and melt our skin. It resisted fire, and, well, that's about all I know."
“Hmm… impressive Sabina, it seems you know as much as I do on this subject. not to worry at all. This one is on the house, it seems you’ve done the town a great service investigating the source of that rumble yesterday. If he hasn’t been made aware yet, I’m sure the guildmaster will want to know what you’ve just told me. You’d help out the town further, if you would talk to him at your earliest convenience. if there’s anything else I can help with, just let me know.”
