Dundur, the water is crisp, cold, and refreshing..as if it was perfect for keeping someone alive. Oddly, you do not see your reflection in it when you look in the barrel.
(Not at all, that was perfect. We will just pretend that is the date, so nice job! )
Chanterelle looks at you, Percival, for another long moment while on the floor. She wraps the blanket around her better and stands up. You catch glimpses of her naked body as she stands. She is curvy, slender, and, to the best you can tell, a human woman. She does, however, possess qualities that you would see normally in a humanoid, like, the color of her eyes, or how her hair almost imperceptibly, moves like being caressed gently by the softest breeze. She looks at you, and looking in her eyes you can tell she is..thinking? Analyzing?
What is most disturbing is that when she speaks, you can hear her voice in your mind as well.
"My name is Chanterelle. I used to be a servant of the Triarchy. I have been in that painting for more than 8000 years." More waiting and looking. "You have received my visions, and I thank you for freeing me. You will no longer recieve communication from me. You have given me what I desire. Now. There is other work to do."She looks at the painting. "The painting is a portal. I was trying to look for the Triarchy, but failed, and imprisoned in the painting by the Medusa."
With boundless enthusiasm, Astid shoves her way through the knees and cloaks of the group, walking directly up in front of the painting. "I toldja, Goggick, I DID I DID! SEEEeeeeeeeeeEEEEE! It's a portal."
Without touching it, she'll inspect the painting from multiple directions, bouncing around with glee on her heels. (Investigation: 17).
The painting does indeed exhibit evidence of it being some sort of portal. In the picture, currently, is still the horrible abstract versions of Dundur and Jotunheim. There is the water barrel with the ladle, and the door in the painting. You can see, if you wait long enough, that just beyond perception, they are indeed slowly moving. Or shimmering. It's hard to describe, as you've never seen a painting like this, or seen these effects in a painting.
"Magnificent, isn't it?" Chanterelle says softly. She looks around the room, and at the other people in it, as if she is analyzing you all - like a scientist observing a specimen.
Percival was having a bit of a hard time believing this woman. He didn't doubt that there were creatures that were 8,000 years old, as his patron might be that old for all that he knew, but this is a young woman that doesn't seem to have any supernatural qualities. But he was getting answers, even if those answers also brought more questions with them.
"What is the Medusa? What other work is there? And how did you come to contact us?"

Chanterelle walks closer to the painting as she talks. "The Medusa. Her name is Psathyrella." She pauses a moment to stare at the painting, and it's a long pause, as if something so ancient a creature had no hurry to rush. Finally she continues. "In what is equivalent to primordial chaos of your cosmos, she was already eons old, born to an entity beyond the confines of your reality, called Dendrosathol. To use words you might understand, Dendrosathol is..an Arch-Devil. While imprisoned by the Medusa, I reached out my mind to billions of souls. You were the ones that answered, so to say. I have failed in my mission. I must begin work to start it again. If you touch the painting, you all, too, can enter the Maze of the Blue Medusa. It will take you to a place beyond your understanding, so beware."
Dundur, your nat1 perception check fails to reveal anything except the fact that your brain and it's physiology are failing to accept the visuals of this new reality. In essence, you are having a panic attack as your mind reels and struggles to adjust and conform to what you're seeing. I'm going to need a DC15 WIS (Survival) save.
Also, currently in this room, for exits, is one door leading north. The south wall contains the painting. There are no other exits in this room.
Dundur, as your mind reels in the pale attempt to comprehend your new reality, your very being begins a rejection process, and you take 2 damage. It's like your ability to understand anything around you is failing, and you can feel your sanity ebbing away.
I stumble over to the barrel. My head reeling, holding myself up. I look down into the water before taking another big drink. I hold the barrel and rock it seeing if it is movable.
Absolutely, the barrel is very movable. The water looks clear, by what you know, it IS clear, but..how come there is no reflection in the water? You mind struggles to comprehend it. But..drinking the water seems to calm you, as if the act of ingesting food is distracting your natural mental defenses and sense of fight or flight.
Is there anything under the barrel? I only move it a little from its original position. I’ll also stick a pinky finger into the water a bit to see how it feels. More if there is no ill effects so I can check the whole barrel.
Goggick takes a few minutes to remember his days as an archeologist. This name, Dendrosathol, it rings a bell, very old scrolls but no information was found on this.
"This is really ancient knowledge... I am curious about this entity... But I wonder, what do we get if we wonder in this world, except knowledge. I am not the kind of person who is jumping in front of the danger... What do you want from us?"
Dundur, the water is cool to the touch, and there is nothing under the barrel except more "red" flooring. From what your perceptions tell you, it's just a barrel full of non-reflecting water.
Goggick, Chanterelle listens to your questions as she continues to look at the painting. "It is simple. I need your help. You see, the Medusa Maze is built upon a now dead civilization that crumbled millennia ago. The Medusa keeps things in..and keeps things..out. The Maze holds knowledge, wonders, treasures..and horrors..beyond this realm. She knows I am looking for the Triarchy. I am one of their humble servants. The Triarchy have powers beyond this realm of understanding, and I am trying to set them free from the Maze. If you do not kill Psathyrella, she will come for this world, and destroy it. She knows I am here, looking for them, and she wants me dead."

i head over to the barrel and take a drink of the water from the ladle. I’ll hangout on the pillows and wait for the others to come in
