Morax’s eyes blink as he gets used to the light and the sights, it all seems rather disorienting to him. He has read about Chult and new somewhat what to expect, but in person? No, this is a whole new world to him. He sniffs the air, turns and looks all around, getting his bearings. He watches the reaction of the others, smiling despite himself. “My my. That’s the way to travel, right there. I was imagining a long boat ride and seasickness, but this, that’s the only way to fly…” He stands with his hands on his hips, taking it in.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Petra takes in the sights of the new city, as well as its reptilian beasts of burden, with awe. "My, my, I had heard the dinosaurs of Chult were magnificent, and it seems they were right! This place is quite remarkable..."She muses, quickly drawing her surroundings in her book. After a moment, she focuses in. "Well, now that's done, we ought to do some research and learn about this unknown land. The map is unmarked, but surely some historic texts or tomes or even explorers' accounts could give some insight into locations of interest that could be a lead for this death curse. Or maybe one of these merchant princes has information we can buy? Lady Silvane, do you have any ideas?"
"I don't think we're getting on a ship, Dirtbrain.", Yabo laments. Seeing her hopping about trying to see over the taller crowds, he bends down, patting at his shell behind his head.
"Gotta crow's nest here if you're wanting a lookout perch."

"You bet!" Dirtbrain says as she takes a seat on the tortle's shell. Once Yabo stands, she takes a good look all about the place. "Such a good view from here."
She gives Petra a glance as she offers suggestions. "Hmm. Getting info is good. We staying in town a while? Should find a place to stay if so. Perhaps just ask the locals if they know about this soul... uh, thing."
After having an initial moment to orient himself to this place, Visham scans the population, paying little attention to the conversation between Yabo and Dirtbrain...
Visham looks for any easily identifiable caste system and notes its features... He also takes notice of any constabulary presence he sees... But most of all he tries to taste the current cultural atmosphere... Business as usual? Celebratory? Is there trouble in the air?
Finally, he spares himself the indulgence of scanning the crowd for faces that look like his... fellow yuan-ti... unsure whether he wants to find one or not.
Silvane seems unruffled by the teleporation, though of course it is impossible to read her expression behind the mask. "Oh, I almost forgot," she says and hands a bulging pouch (150 gold) to Petra. "This should help defray your expenses while in the city. Speaking of the city, it would be wise I think to take some time to explore and see what you can learn about the curse and the Soulmonger. I will be staying at Kaya's House of Repose, which is a nice, quiet inn, but if you prefer a more lively ambience the Thundering Lizard comes highly recommended as well."
Silvane marks the locations of the inns on the map before handing it to Petra. "I recommend seeking out a guide who can help you navigate the deepest, most dangerous parts of Chult. They often spend time in the inns, seeking new customers. They may have more information as well. The merchant princes could also be a good source, although if what I've heard is true, they don't give away anything for free, least of all information."
Yabo and Dirtbrain approach a random Nyanzaran, a dark-skinned man with a gold nose ring. He regards Yabo and Dirtbrain with little surprise, as if it's completely normal to encounter a goblin riding a tortle in Chult. "What's that you say?" he asks, his voice accented in a way you've never heard before. It's almost musical. "Souls? We all have souls, my friends!" he laughs and slaps his hand over his heart. "Did you lose yours?"
Visham's keen eyes scan the city. At first, it seems like total chaos, a cacophony of sights, sounds, and smells. It's much louder even than Baldur's Gate, what with the trumpeting and roars of dinosaurs roaming the streets. The heat and humidity of Chult are stifling, quite unlike the temperate climate of the Sword Coast. There is an absolute riot of color all around. Flowers, green plants, and vines grow everywhere, seeming to spring out of the building stones themselves. The city’s defensive walls and towers are topped with colorful awnings to shield guards from the sun and rain. Walls divide the city into districts, and the open archways above the streets are painted with murals of dinosaurs, mountains, and mythic heroes. Some buildings look ancient, crumbling and covered with vines and lichen. Even as Visham looks, a light rain begins to fall. None of the residents seem to take any notice.
As far as the people go, Visham doesn't immediately notice any fellow yuan-ti, but he spots a few tabaxi minstrels playing instruments and busking for coins. There doesn't appear to be any sort of caste system. Humans mingle with tabaxi, tabaxi with lizardfolk. Almost all races seem to be represented to some degree, with dark-skinned humans being the most common sight. There are some humans that appear to be guards. Many of them patrol the walls. The atmosphere just seems to be one of vibrant life in all its diversity. If there is a death curse going on, these people are either trying their best to forget or they are pretending everything is normal.
Petra's eyes widen at the gold pressed into her hand. "Splendid! We shall make good use of this, I assure you," she says, a little unsure of where to put this newly acquired bag of riches. "A guide is a good first step, but perhaps we should find some information here in town first before diving straight into the belly of the metaphorical beast. As far as accommodations go, quiet and calm is fine by me, but if the group prefers louder and more rambunctious, well, who am I to say no to a little excitement?"
"Inn firssst." Says Visham, speaking for the very first time since he joined the party. His voice is raspy, the texture a whisper, but clear and direct. His eyes continue scanning the environment, .. assessing, watching, tasting...
"Thisss port has an appetite." He explains "Could find trouble. Get ssseparated. Need to regroup... recover..."
He turns to look Petra in the eye with a serene, unnervingly affectless look. "In an unfamiliar placcce, we need one placcce to be familiar to usss."
Btw, the moment he actually has the space to think, Visham will start wracking his brain trying to recall if he has any existing connections located at the port... smugglers, mercenaries, spies or whathaveyou. Basically, making use of the "Criminal Contact" feature from his background.

"Ha! No, no, no,"Dirtbag replies to the dark-skinned man. "We didn't lose our souls!" She then pauses a moment. "I don't think so at least. But what we mean is we're looking for something that is causing a curse. They called it the Soul Manger? Or something like that?" She listens for a response from her perch atop Yabo's shell.
Petra gives Vissham an affirmative nod, then can't help but snicker at Dirtbrain's enthusiastic, if somewhat ill-informed, line of questioning. "Close! Soul Monger. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you sir?"
"Soul Monger?" Dirtbrain repeats. She sounds skeptical, but figures the gnome looked like she was the sort to study that sort of thing, so maybe she was right. She turns back to the man to see if perhaps with this new word he'll know what they're talking about.
The man ponders this for a moment but then shakes his head. "Afraid not, my friends," he says. "We know of the curse. It afflicts some in the city, but more than that it is bad for business. Fewer adventurers and tourists willing to brave the dangers of Chult knowing there can be no resurrection." His formerly cheerful expression turns a bit somber. "Some say that the curse is a sign of Ubtao's disfavor with us. He abandoned us to our fate."
DC 15 History Check
Ubtao is the primary deity of Chult, known as the Creator of Chult and Father of Dinosaurs. However, shortly before 1400 DR he abandoned Chult and now many Chultans worship other deities such as Savras and Gond. There are some faithful of Ubtao who believe he did not abandon them but was rather driven mad by Dendar, known as the Night Serpent. The current year is 1491 DR.
"Well, thank you," Dirtbrain says to the man. "Maybe we just find this Ubtao and ask him?" she comments. "Maybe we should we find an inn first, like VIsham suggested? I like lively... and you have to admit Thundering Lizard sounds kinda interesting! Yabo, what do you say?" Since the tortle is basically her feet, she waits to see where he decides to go.
Dirtbrain nods from atop Yabo's shell. "I think Repose is one of those fancy sword words. Not sure why someone'd name an inn for that though." She shrugs, happy to head to the livelier destination.
"I can swing a sword, but it's not my favorite. One of those moves that sword folks like to practice against wooden dummies?", Yabo nods, before realizing he can't be too expressive or disrupt his passenger.
"Miss Silvane, do you want an escort to your House of Fancy Sword Moves?"

Morax steps forward to listen to Dirtbrain and Yabo question the man, a smile coming to his face from time to time. He hears the name Ubtao, but it is one that he has never come across. (History : 4 ). “Um, *ahem*, it is a house of rest. I am fine with gathering at the Thundering Lizard for us, unless the cost is significantly more.” He turns back to Lady Silvane, saying “Do you need accompaniment to your Inn, ma’am? Or anything else as we get set to explore this lively port city? We will look for a guide in the Thundering Lizard. I would also like to shop for goods that we will need on our quest at some point..”. Morax is ready to move along to the Thundering Lizard if she does not need help.
