OOC: On a plane and on my phone, so skipping descriptons this time, but to avoid hold ups: If there's a chance before initiative rolls I'd like to attempt to hide somewhere, but only if I can do so without spending a combat turn. Then first turn cast sleep in a spot where it can affect as many Kobolds as possible (preferably no one else). Also don't seem to be able to do inline dice rolls on mobile, so if someone could roll the following for me?
As the line of acid spews forth from Urokris's mouth, the Kobolds turn their attention to the newcomers. However, it was too late for some of them, and two of the weaker looking dragonkin dissolve into a pile of red goo with a pathetic cry. The leader, barely touched by the line of acid, points at the adventurers and barks orders to his remaining pack.
Urokris grips his weapon tightly as the scales around his neck bristle, his eyes settling with the calm indifference of dragons, "Alas, it is time you met your end, my little kin," he returns in draconic.
Skiaceq's feathers bristle. He struggles to remain calm with lives at stake. He studies the kobolds' movements and plans his own. This won't be difficult with Urokris distracting them.
Phentallius gives the Dragonborn a good look, Wow, they really are intimidating up close. I am glad he is on my team. He catches up to Urokris right as a spout of acid spews from his mouth. “Hold fast gentlemen, we have some vile creatures to put in their place.” He grips his trident and gets in a battle stance.

Valji speaks the same word of power as when Skiaceq startled him, producing a ball of flame in his hand. He will hurl it at the leader of the kobolds, yelling, "So you wanna play with fire, huh? Well, here you go!"

Urokris steps up to the leader, his greatsword held in one hand and resting on a shoulder, his scales bristle as he bares his fangs, acid dripping down his maw. "I can see your deaths with my next attacks, kin," he says in draconic, "I offer you this one chance. Run before me and my allies fill this road with your blood."

Reevaluating the situation, Skiaceq realizes the dragonborn is in serious danger. As Urokris bellows his threat, Skiaceq pounces from the roof and swoops toward the rearmost kobold. His talons clap around its throat and squeeze, hard. "Listen to him."
Unarmed Strike: 16 Damage: 5 (If first kobold dies, bonus action against second kobold) Bonus Action: 23 Damage: 4
Skiaceq kills the rearmost Kobold, turning it into a red mist with his deadly talons. The second looks severely injured.
The lead Kobold looks up at the Dragonborn defiantly, but three of their number, already severely hurt by the acid breath (and one of them by Skiaceq's talons), think better of this particular fight and skitter off. Looking around him at his remaining companions, he thinks better of pushing the fight right now, and barks once more at the dragonborn between running off with the rest of his comrades.
Draconic:
"This isn't over yet, blood traitor. Your blood will be spilt in the name of Tiamat before morning comes."
The woman, thankful for the assistance, turns to her dragonborn savior as the injured man limps his way back with the three kids. "Thank you so much! I thought we were done for before you all arrived! My name is Linan Swift, and this is my husband Cuth. We were trying to make our way to the keep when those... monsters attacked us. It's the city's safe house against attacks... though it's been many moons since it's been needed."
"Did these set the fires?" asks Skiaceq, not ready to lower his guard. He kneels over the bodies and examines them, looking for some indication of where they might have come from or why they were here... and perhaps shiny collectibles.

(He's only interested in shiny things, not necessarily valuable things.)
The mention of Tiamat shakes Urokris as he stares after the fleeing kobolds. Was this somehow connected that mad dragon goddess? The lady then spoke, her voice invading his thoughts and he turned to her. "Well met. I'm Urokris, this here is Skiaceq and my other companions don't seem to be here quite yet... alas, you're lucky we got here when we did. Those kobolds can be nasty things in numbers. Perhaps we could escort you and your family. What say you to that, Ski?"

The woman looks in horror at the birdlike creature as her husband answers, "What kind of question is that? This is our home!"
Searching the two piles of goo yields no results, as the caustic acid makes it hard to search, but the Kobold Skiaceq killed is wearing a comically oversized (for him) silver plated necklace worth 3sp, and has a small pouch containing 50gp and 7 sp.
It takes a moment for Skiaceq to register the nickname. No one has abbreviated his name before, but he recognizes the custom. He looks up from his task and nods. "Yes. We must protect the town." His Common is gradually coming back to him. He turns his head to the lady upon hearing her reaction, mortified at the miscommunication. "No! Sorry! Sorry! Meant these!" He gestures emphatically at the dead reptiles. "Could be more. Only concerned."
Reluctantly, Skiaceq thinks better of pocketing the necklace and leaves it on the kobold. Making trouble for Leosin his first evening in town is the last thing he wants.
Understanding the question the second time around, the woman shook her head. "They seemed to just be looting. We avoided a couple groups of them before we were noticed. I didn't see what set the fires, but it seemed to come from above."
Quarion, who had been hiding around the corner of a nearby house practicing his hand gestures for the sleep spell he hadn't used in some time, heads toward the group as it settles in that the fight has ended almost before it had begun, grateful that he didn't have to wade into the thick of it, but starting to feel like he might be mixed up with these folks for a while. "I ran off a couple more of those things who were getting ready to come up behind you all," he lies, having witnessed the firepower his traveling companions seemed to possess and not wanting to seem like dead weight. "Seems like you handled that group swiftly enough," he adds, looking toward Urokris and Skiaceq in particular.
Turning toward Linan and Cuth, he holds out a hand and introduces himself, or rather, the person he was playing today. "Darvin Rein. Quite the welcoming committee you arranged for us. Word of advice though: Next time just book some brass musicians. I don't think I caught your names?"
Linan and Cuth look at Quarion in confusion at his cheery demeanor under the circumstances, but shake his hand regardless. "I'm Cuth, and this is my wife Linan, and our children, Aldym, Darante, Temur. Our 'welcoming committee' is generally much nicer when we aren't under attack. We probably shouldn't hang around here... Y'all look like you can handle yourself in a fight, but we need to get our kids to safety."
As if to underscore the point, one of the kids, who you think he referred to as Aldym starts crying and grabs onto Cuth's leg. He winces in pain as the child rubs up against the dagger wound where he had been stabbed earlier.
After the two residents introduce themselves, he adds, "I thought I overheard you saying something about something coming from above. Did I get that right? You know, it's funny, some of us have been hearing rumors about a dragon or two and their followers mucking about these parts. I don't suppose you have any more information to that effect that you wouldn't mind sharing?"
"Glad you had our back, Darvin," he says then turns look at Cuth and his family, "we can escort you to the keep, make sure you get there safe. Whatever's going on here, it's better to have the armed and armored about to help should something happen."
