I read the novels and read some when running Shadow of the Dragonqueen.
I know alot about Plains of Dust ;)
Solamnia is a bit lacking in info. You have some points of interest. Like Palantas and a certain keep in Nightlund. . But who rule what district ( Lund) is vague. Kalamia have a Gouvernor. Seems they have some sort of election for thet position in the districts. I guess nobles / knights elect them. So it is feudal in system.
I read Dragonlance when I was very young. Like... before I was 10. But even then, Forgotten Realms was blowing up on bookshelves. It was much easier to get a copy of Abier-Toril lore than Krynn lore. So I've been relying hard on fan wikis and World Anvil. I'm sure some of it was homebrewed or head-canoned by the writers, but I can't easily tell the difference.
The way I remember it, Dragonlance is basically if Tiamat (as Takhisis) won instead of Bahamut (as Paladine). So the lands are crawling with chromatic dragons, Dragon Army soldiers, war, and desolation. Whereas Forgotten Realms has a more even blend of dragons and evil powers, but dragons are much more rare, and the forces of good are generally at least as strong as the forces of evil.
Because of that, I prefer the setting for opportunities to present emotional toil and create thought-provoking commentary. Dragonlance had my favorite prestige class of all time! I can't remember what it was called, but basically it was the premise for the classic fantasy film, Dragonheart. You willingly graft (magically) a piece of a dragon patron onto you. It grants you several powers, and also a telepathic/empathic connection to your patron dragon. That dragon doesn't control you, but it does have a certain degree of sway over your life. So you can be called to service by your patron as a trade-off for the (often life-saving) powers they give you. It's a risky prestige class to take, because you and the DM have to trust and communicate with each other well to respect player agency and create epic stories... especially if your dragon patron is evil.
I'm still trying to figure out which types of dragons existed during this era. 5E has so many types of dragons. But I believe they're newer add-ons. I think, during this era of Krynn, the only types of true dragons that existed were Chromatic and Metallic, with metallic being extremely rare, and often comparitively weak. And the Ancient Metallic dragons, like Paladine, are very restricted with the amount of influence they can have, lest they raise Takhisis's ire and she crushes their eggs... ending the divine bloodline. In many ways, Larskolstad, you picked a very tragic class in this timeline. Your role, though you're a cleric, is much closer in flavor to a paladin or crusader, because you fight using a restricted power to save your own god. As your fame increases, you'll become known as a servant of an enemy god... and one who is metaphorically caged and defeated no less. It could end up making you a high-profile target as you level up and spread your name. Which is exactly what I was hoping for! When you're on the right side of history in a dark timeline, the world will see you as a threat... even an oppressor. You'll be vilified for your goodness and compassion... feared for your "radical" ideals. Your monolithic opposition will pick at you like a flea, and see you as a pest that needs to be destroyed. But they can't risk making a martyr of you, in case it inspires other radical thinkers to rise up and carry your ideals with them into war.
The Dragon Armies recruit through fear, indoctination, and lies. The "good soldiers" will serve Takhisis so faithfully, that they won't be able to see you as anything other than a vile traitor to dragonkind and their gods. The evil soldiers won't even care. They embrace the truth of Takhisis's nature and revel in your suffering. They delight in the fantasy of seeing you die frightened and pleading for a mercy that will never come.
In the meantime, you find those in the middle, suffering by proxy of this war, they become creatures of immense need and fear. It drives them to do selfish and sometimes cruel acts to survive another day. They bare no allegience, because they no longer feel safe enough to trust anyone. Characters like the firenewt warrior your encountered, Dana, and many weak or underprivelaged citizens of Krynn that you'll encounter along the way. As a lawful good character, you'll have to face moral conflicts throughout Sera's life. It'll tug at her moral obligations, and challenge her black-and-white worldview. Will it break her, or make her ascend? Only time will tell, but I've always been excited about the potential.
Oof... so bored waiting for my hair to dye. I started dinner, which takes like 45 minutes, which may be enough to shower and rinse out all the dye, but if I get shower-zonked, I'll lose track of time and risk a kitchen fire. So... I'm kind of stuck with this nervous energy. It's 8 PM, and I'm in my PJs with a shower cap on. So... there's not a whole lot I can do. 😅
I want to play my bass or some video games, but both of those require headphones. I don't want to risk getting dye on them. And it's too late in the evening to get started on chores or something. I'm bored of watching tv. And I'm trying to steer clear of social media for a few days. So... I'm just here... just chillin'.
Having the eggs stolen the metallic dragons feel a bit taken hostage. They not yet know that Thakisis spew hundred or so draconians from each egg. Corrupting and destroying the eggs. Metallic dragons also have shapechanging form and are much harder to find.
They not perticipate in the war so much. The Kingdom of Ishtar ****ed them over...defiling their burial grounds and battling them 300 years ago. The humans also causing the cataclysm. They have no real motive to help the humans. Many are quite bitter.
With three people digging three graves in the hot desert sun, it's going to take them about 5-6 hours to complete. By then, it will be a bit past midday. Do you want to watch as the soldiers dig graves, or move onward and leave them to their grim work?
Aniticipated outcomes, that you'll believe even with a low roll:
If you leave:
The soldiers are unlikely to follow you. They got clobbered pretty quickly and aren't dumb enough to take another attempt at it while exhausted, injured, and minimally supplied.
If they aren't killed by roving bandits, the Hachakee, or monsters, they'll likely tell the first squad to arrive which way you went.
If they finish their work before reinforcements arrive, they will likely head back to base, and tell the Dragon Army what they know.
If you stay:
The soldiers will continue their work as long as they remain alive.
They are unlikely to attempt treachery as long as reinforcements haven't arrived.
These troops are on foot, which means a larger squad, patrol, or even platoon can't be far away. They've already stated that they are advanced scouts.
You will likely encounter a squad or patrol within the next half hour.
Monsters in the desert will smell the fresh blood and may also arrive soon.
Buckeran is going to get pissy.
Things you may suspect:
They could've just carried their dead back to camp. It would've been safer and easier to do that than to attempt to bury their dead here. However, three marked graves could serve as a landmark. It's possible they're using this both as a way to honor their dead, and make their sacrifice count towards tracking you at the same time, especially since you took their maps.
Keeping you stalled here to stand guard means it won't appear as if they retreated from a battle that included a suspected deserter when reinforcements arrive. They can save face when they return to camp, which could prevent them from facing punishment.
The dragon armies, instead of pressing the frontline, are combing the desert, as the Officer put it. It means they aren't looking for battle here. They're looking for something else. Something that requires maps, compasses, and shovels to find.
Don't worry! Buckeran can assist and help course correct.
After the storm, the path is much less clear, but it's also made it harder for certain enemies to follow your trail. So, you're not getting the benefit of the safer route to the dragon's lair, but you're far more likely to be eaten alive by wandering monsters instead of having your throat slit in your sleep by assassins on the main trail. ☺️Yay!
Anyway... today was a long, but fun day. I got a bit of cash to go winter wardrobe shopping! ☺️ It only took 7 hours. 😅 But I'm going to look amazing, so... worth it! I may not post tomorrow. My roommate and I are going to a friend's house to get fat on ham and turkey for Thanksgiving, then we'll all probably day nap to recover from a food coma. I meant to update again today, but there's nothing left in my brain. I just kind of want to sit down and chill for a little before bedtime. If I can, I'll post in the morning. And I will try to! Otherwise, I'll come back Friday with an update!

I say we just leave in a hurry. We can be smart and start out in wrong direction...then turn and covering our tracks.
Given the survival check, We’re definitely heading the wrong way
