I actually skipped this part writing the in character just by having a look at the picture. It looks like a poison gas spitting creeper.
But Sera got a 18 on her arcana. If she figure out theese creatures are undead....I think this match will be over quickly. Unless they got lots of HD Sera destroys undeads. Dehydration is not a big deal with a cleric who got create water either. I am more curious since they need water so badly...destroy water on them might wreak havoc.
It's not a spoiler, because I can't implement the monster. It was something Dawnbound was going to face if I'd had a stat block. But the monster list in 5E is woefully understaffed compared to 3.5. What you're looking at now, on your battle map, vaguely resembles a winged goblin made of sand. From your perspective, there's enough uncanny valley to know it is definitely not a goblin. The proportions are all wrong. And due to the fact that it's made of sand, you can assume it can take (roughly) any shape it likes. But it seems unbothered by heat and poison, so it's probably something indigenous to this region, and solely dependent on this ecosystem... where you, who are not built to survive this region, look a hell of a lot like food.
Yeah, so far been lucky that the effects haven’t been too detrimental in each activation. It’ll slow down soon as it’s a backlog of wild magic surges that should have been happening earlier. Merkas doesn't get things right the first time so there’s some excess magic that bleeds off creating other effects.

Interestingly, your Wild Surge mechanic has been unpredictably favorable as well. Even though you and Buckeran are easy targets because you're asleep, the creatures have no real opportunity to target you. The visible opportunties, like Orr the Unseen, are a much easier target. Hastos is a problem for them, because their best attack (Sleep) doesn't seem to work on him. But they can't see Sera and Sera can't see them. So as long as they can avoid Hastos's fury, they have the meal they want.
By casting sleep, doesn’t the caster make themselves visible again?
That is a good question. I'm still unclear about how Merkas's Wild Surge works. I've never played a Wild Surge caster, and I've never been in a game with one. Is it a spell, or a condition? Invisibilty as a Condition can last until its duration ends.
An invisible creature is impossible to see without the aid of magic or a special sense. For the purpose of hiding, the creature is heavily obscured. The creature's location can be detected by any noise it makes or any tracks it leaves.
Attack rolls against the creature have disadvantage, and the creature's attack rolls have advantage.
But as a Spell, Invisibility ends under the following circumstances:
The spell ends early immediately after the target makes an attack roll, deals damage, or casts a spell.
It feels like a Condition, because Wild Surge is more like a side effect or symptom of sloppy magic than an actual intention. But viewing it as a spell makes the fight easier to win. This is a relatively easy encounter for this party's level. If Orr the Unseen were awake, he could possibly solo this encounter, and he's just an NPC class. So you guys getting your rears handed to you at this stage isn't really my preference. But I don't want to protect the party from danger anymore either. You've all played as a team long enough to know how to keep each other alive, So a Deus Ex Machina to keep you safe should no longer be necessary.
Hmm...
For the sake of fun and chaos, I'll retcon that they become visible again, but only the ones that cast Sleep. This threat is supposed to be low, but still real, and I think making it possible for you to see some of the creatures will bring it back to that level.
Hrothbert_Neruca, if you have further insight on how Wild Surge effects work systemically, I'd love to hear it. On it's own, it's extremely powerful, if a bit risky. But 5e has a fair amount of half-baked and minimally scripted rules for some of their more interesting features. I'm an old school 3.5 girl. Rules were everywhere, and made everything make a lot more sense to me.
I'll have to find that table again. My note taking took a dive as my life got a little extra stressful.
Larskolstad, a Nat 1 is only a clean miss. You hit nothing but air. Hitting below the AC is a hit that glances off armor or is deflected by a weapon, and therefore deals no damage. I don't do critical fumble consequences, because it doesn't make sense for a highly trained warrior to just drop their weapon 5% of the time. Even when I did weapons training in martial arts as a child, I rarely dropped the weapons, and it was usually because I was doing something incredibly stupid with it, or it got knocked out of my hand. And I have small hands.
If you wish, you can retcon that drop, or take Heroic Inspiration... let's assume you're using your anger at your slip-up to double down on form.
Either way, I really appreciate your dedication to RP! Even when... hell especially when, it disadvantages you. I can feel how Sera feels when I read your work.
I have time sensitive stuff to do today. I'll try to post updates later, but for now, Hastos still has a turn. Good luck! AC 12 to damage Dust Mephit. I'll give you that to streamline the results of the incounter.

I know I not need to drop it. Fumbling is a bit fun too at times.
I have another.
Then, by all means, have Heroic Inspiration. That's a good equivalent to how I reacted to dropping a weapon, or having it knocked from my hand, in a match. You don't get sloppier. You get more focused. The stakes are higher, and you laser in on form and efficient movement. The goal is to regain the upper hand, and I always got pissed if the match was called off so I could retrieve my weapon. I finally scolded my Soke for ending the match on those circumstances, because in a real combat, I wouldn't get a timeout to retrieve my weapon. So, he finally allowed matches to continue. Those lessons helped me a lot growing up. I was a small kid, and got bullied and beaten relentlessly. Learning to keep my wits about me when disadvantaged made it to where I was finally able to hold my own. I have to assume any trained adventurer, especially someone like Sera who lived the life she lived, has learned how to double down on precision after a fumble.
I’ve rolled attacks, but now that I read Sera’s turn. I doubt any of them will be left. I’ll hold off posting until DM posts.
Yeah... sorry! Yesterday was rough. A client took up most of my day and stiffed me out of $200. By the time I realized what was going on, I just kind of wanted to sip tea and shut off my brain until it was time to sleep. My roommate had an even rougher day. He was visiting a friend, and there was a shootout on their block. White trash, family drama shit. A good ole fashioned, Texas-style family feud. Yeah... that still happens. It's grey-legal due to stand-your-ground laws... but it still happens. No one died, but still... it was scary. So he was understandably exhausted too, when it was finally safe for him to come home. So neither of us wanted to do much beyond talk through our rough days, and watch movies until it was time to go to bed.
I've got another semi-busy day, so I'm posting first, before I get onto it. I'll try to make sense of everyone's intentions to make sure attacks and actions aren't wasted, or at least not wasted in a nonsensical way. As always, if you disagree with a ruling, please let me know.
Timing. As enemies gets stronger we must try think tactics and timing. Even we can post as we like we should hold actions.
We are smart to let spellcasters go first. They create area effects or affect creatures giving fighters advantage. Blinding, confusing, paralyze etc.
Also saving fighters from using attacks/ actions the wizard kill off with the fireball anyway.
In a way, every single one of you can cast. The only true non-magic user in the group is Buckeran. 😅 And he wasn't allowed to bring anything with him that technically deals damage. Even Hastos can launch fireballs and teleport. But you are correct. Tactics and situational awareness is going to be crucial, especially when you make it to the dragon's lair. I'm going to attempt to challenge your wits in there. Something that isn't always easy for me to calibrate. Always remember, if you get stuck, skill checks can go a long way to getting clues that can help you advance your character through a battle, a map, a trap, or a puzzle. Low rolls provide information too. Just... not accurate or useful information. There's no such thing as a fumble in skill checks. And any check that requires WIS, INT, or CHA is basically a free action. The mind works fast. STR, DEX, or CON checks rely on physical reaction speeds, so you're generally limited to what can feasibly be included in a 6 second span. So generally 1, maybe 2 checks per round, unless you intend to expend a Bonus Action or Reaction.
Hrothbert_Neruca did an excellent job of using Merkas's sharp wit at the beginning of the encounter to assess tactics, gain intel, and calculate odds of success against each target individually to know which opponents should be targetted first. Unfortunately, he went sleepy-by before being able to act on that information. That mentality is going to come in handy in the future though.
In most DnD games we have "battlefield control".
We have Merkas.
We have "battlefield chaos"

Because Merkas checks are at dis, he misses Bucky Dex:5, Falls asleep and starts falling off Barkly Cha:6, who succeeds with a Char: 18-2=16
