I read the rules and have agreed with it all. How can I introduce my character to the campaign? Since it's post combat and all (unless you're cool with my character just showing up and wandering in).
You just sort of wander in from the southeast or southwest of the map, on either side of the blue crystals. See where the cobblestone pathways are? That's where you're coming from.
The whole chamber is filled with static electricity and smoke, courtesy of Merkas's pet and mount: Barkley, the Giant Strider. Everyone's covered in bits of mushroom, and several panicked myconids are scurrying about, trying to put out the flame.
Meanwhile, Sera is grumping around the battlefield (having an argument with the self-satisfied Merkas), bringing a rainstorm along with her to help put out the fires while the party decides what you do next. So, the ground is quite sloshy at this point.
Hastos is chilling... Waiting for Merkas and Sera to chill the f*ck out so they can get on with their mission.
Normally, this would be quite shocking, but those who know Dawnbound know this is par for the course for this bunch.
NPCs present are Orr the Unseen (as found in the NPC Dossier) who is a soft-spoken mystic and lower-classman in the guild, and Buckeran (also found in the NPC Dossier) who is one of the guild's patrons and a well-beloved member of the Santekh council. He's a non-combatant on this quest, but he does provide a portable mansion, a wealth of lore, and a few handy magic items that don't specifically do damage, but can aid others in doing so. He's a bit of a chatterbox though, like me, and tends to over explain things if he gets excited about a topic.
Hiya folks, my name is KoKo (He/Him)! I've been playing DnD for about 5 years now, and this is my first time playing a purely PBP campaign. Looking forward adventuring with yall!
Hey there, Koko! I play Hastos, a tall, built, old Elf with a military background who tends to squeak when he walks. We’re not sure why. Lol. He’s spent a lot of time alone and is trying to acclimate to what a family is.
Looking forward to meeting you IC. Buckle up… it’ll get… interesting!
Welcome Koko I play Sera the former street urchin/ farmgirl now a cleric of Paladine. With a foul mouth and often distracted by Hastos rear view. But she try be very lawful good here and a inspiring leader..
..even a too curious for his own good Kender always bring troubles....
All the new players also have guild signet rings (even if it's not in their character sheet yet). It marks them as Assumptive Dawn rank (equal to your own for simplicity's sake). They've been running quests for Dawnbound from the Guild Hall and levelled up enough to warrant their high ranking. So let's just handwave it that way.
Assassins may have forgeries that will require a Perception Check to know the difference though.
As far as I know, two other players are supposed to be joining the game. But aside from Koko, only one other has actually used the Join link. Equill is still figuring out Species/Class combos and backstory, so their character is not finished enough to join yet. The other player is... like... MIA. Their last comment was that they wanted to read up on lore. So... maybe they're doing a deep dive into Dragonlance lore... maybe they moved on to a different game. I haven't given Equill access to the OOC or IC Threads yet, because I want to see a built character first. I made that mistake once already, and learned my lesson well. 😅
Either way, 4-6 characters is perfect. I know we're all settling in and getting to know each other, but *taps imaginary wristwatch* time will run out in-game as the myconids finish putting out the fires and decide what to do next. Talking is technically a free action, but to keep the experience flowing organically, that doesn't mean it takes 0 seconds of time. Myconids are still scrambling throughout the grove, critters are still scurrying away from the smoke, and thanks to the noise of the explosion, and the resonant chord that rang through the den on your arrival, your presence is not a secret. If any monsters do like to hunt fresh meat... you're now on the menu. The flame and smoke might keep most of them away for now. But that smoke is starting to dissipate. I.E.: You're all in a dangerous setting, though the CR in this dungeon is low for your level. And the implied threat that the chaotic nature of the magic in this region is infectious makes a prolonged stay in this dungeon potentially dangerous. The world is moving on while you're discussing next steps. Whether you stick around and wait for the danger to come to you, advance into the dragon's lair, or retreat and regroup, is up to you. Of course... there's always some X option (you rascals 🥰) that might come up with something interesting and unexpected to do as well. Whatever happens... I'm sure it will be delightfully unhinged.
If you have any changes you'd like to make to the marching order, please let me know.
Since Sera decided the direction, I placed her in the front, with Hastos at her side. Orr the Unseen and Merkas/Buckeran/Barkly are flanking Yuki, to reflect the low-ish level of trust y'all have for each other right now.
But Yuki seems to be a melee build, like Hastos. If you prefer, I can change the formation to better serve their mobility in combat. Just state where you want to be in the group, and I'll make it work.
The kender asks as he starts digging through the nag of holding.
New cursed item idea: A bag of holding that won't stop hen-picking. "I told you you should've stored that in me. I would've kept it safe and organized. But nnnOOOOoooo. You haaad to keep it in your pocket. And now it's broken. And you know what? That's on you. You always do this! You always think your pockets are better than me, and frankly I'm getting sick of it. And don't even try apologizing. I don't need you to be sorry. I need you to be better."
Sorry for being MIA. Been volunteering at a province wide youth sports event this weekend, so haven’t had as much time as normal to assimilate the information and formulate my actions. But now I am going to start
Please remember to update your inventory regularly. I already have a lot of bookkeeping with this game. I don't mind; it tickles my autism, but I'm entrusting you all with the responsibility of tracking your own items and encumbrance. Especially since my new job starts Tuesday. It's only two days a week, but with my disabilities, that's about all I can handle. So I'm going to be a bit more tired than usual. If you need help creating homebrew items, or duplicates of canon items (made as a homebrew) that you can't access with your own account, let me know, and I'll build something for you.
But a simple option is to add the name of the item in your inventory and assign it a weight and Stl value (as GP). You can always look up its effects online.
Assassin's Creed fans may recognize the book Buckeran is using. I stole it from the Homebrew section, because there aren't a lot of navigational tools in the DND resources I have access to.
Essentially, it's like Google Maps, but harder to use. Instead of coming from a guild of assassins, it was made by an archmage of a theives' guild. Any guildmaster, like you, can attempt to read it with a successful Deception check (if you're also wearing a real or illusiary disguise to appear as a rank 4 or above Theives' Guild member). But the DC is above 20, and without knowing which theives' guild it is, you'll be rolling with Disadvantage.
Those with a Criminal background (or have Theives' Cant as a language) or a Poverty Lifestyle can roll a History Check to see if they know where the book is from, and therefore how to disguise yourself as that particular theif.
Once you start reading, it requires a considerable amount of concentration to read (as WIS checks). So, it's basically the only thing you can do. But it will conjure any map, and correlating lore, of any region, dungeon, tower, lair...anything on Krynn. Even if that region has never been explored, unless it has protections against scrying. Thinking about anything else other than the map your researching will cause the map to disappear. If you're thinking of another place, that map will start to form, along with correlating lore. It also updates with present information if the region has changed shape, but will not show the location of monsters, traps, or treasure. If a monster or trap destroys a part of the area and therefore changes the shape of the map, the book will update the map to reveal that change, though.
Buckeran has spent decades unravelling its secrets, and can barely use a fraction of its power. It's only because he has a Bandit template, and extensive knowledge of magical items, that he was able to get this far with it.
For reading the map with Bucky (9-History Check for knowing which thieves guild, 18 -deception check at dis. ) Guess Merkas needs to do a bit more research. Pretty sure the wisdom checks would made the whole endeavour gibberish anyway.

Nice! I think this order makes sense given the situation. I doubt the team would let someone they didn’t know ride their flank.

Seems ok. Sera suspect Undeads soon and are prepared.

Well it shows that friendly actions not make friends out of them.
Btw...where is that Efreet bootle? Did Sera or Merkas go around with it?
Sera still had it last I remember, Merkas hasn’t officially asked for it back. Feel free to use it if you wish
