I laughed so hard at the leathery squeak, I startled one of the dogs. 🤣
Hrothbert_Neruca, I would've gone easier on you than that. A 6 is not a bad roll, it's just not a very good one. 😅Barkly has a saddle, and you have training to ride her. I consulted my roommate, who was an equestrian, and he agrees that scooping up the Mephit core (while mounted on a saddle) would be easy-to-medium difficulty to do if you've had training. I explained to him how DC's work in my campaign, and we considered that a 5 would be the bare minimum to accomplish this trick. So, with a 6, we agree that you would've scooped up the mephit core while remaining on the saddle, but you would've struggled to upright yourself. The ride would've been bumpy, and Barkly would've had to slow down to give you a chance to regroup. So, while she can't fully sprint through the tunnel, she would've been able to double move, but due to terrain, she gets no action afterwards.
The terrain is considered difficult, because of the rain and crystal slog. So your movement is halved. Larskolstad's roll result means Sera can eschew this and run at full speed.
Hrothbert_Neruca, if you wish to force Barkly to charge on through while you're wobbly on the saddle, roll a Animal Handling check (DC 5). She'll keep on charging, and you will just be flopping around on the side of the saddle. You'll have to expend a move to upright yourself at the end of her run. If you double the result, you'll be able to adjust youself smoothly, which will give Barkly a chance to roll to see if she can Dash at full speed (DC 15), regardless of terrain. If you decide to retcon your post, I approve. If not, that's fine too. The choice is yours. I'll post based on the information already provided, and I'll change my post if you do. But your dash will only get you 25' of movement in this terrain... 50' if you pass your skill check (which can be Athletics or Acrobatics).
I almost want you to roll a Deception check for having Merkas say this is the dirtiest Yuki is going to get. 😂
I've had you trudge through kobold dungeons, sweat and vomit your way through desert hellscapes, and slog your way through a sewer that you basically got flushed out of. And Merkas and Hastos has had to endure brutal amounts of filth specifically: covered in blood-sucking ooze, electricuted, exploded, set on fire, drowned in sewer water and fetid corpses... Yuki met Merkas when he was covered in mushroom guts! And your characters all have the scars and body odor to prove it. A fastidious adventurer is gonna suffer in my games. 🤭Hell, in the first part of the game, baths weren't even available. I believe I described the smell of Santekh as "sticky"... which is a very specific type of stink that get in your nose, skin, and clothing, then makes a home there.
I can't imagine how grungy Sera must be feeling, with armor that cannot be removed. I'm just going to assume that, since it's a living thing, it's self cleaning. But even so, Yuki has truly joined a funky bunch.
My divorce is finalized; I'm starting my new job, and I've got my disability hearing in 4 days. My disability attorney, after going over the data and judge stats, gives me a 50% chance of approval, which is about as high a chance I'll get in Texas. Disability is generally next to impossible to get here (less than 10% of cases are approved), so... by comparison, this is a slam dunk. But even if I don't get disability, my path to safety and housing is secured. My roommate is moving to Colorado, and wants to take me with him, if my asylum request in Denmark isn't approved. He's even offered to fly me back to the states if I can't afford a ticket back. Colorado has a much higher disability approval stat, so I can always reapply there. And gender affirming care is a protected and insured right in that state! 🥰
But that also means I will be out all day and probably tomorrow. As much as I love being around friends, social activities take a lot out of me, and I usually need a day to recover. So I probably will not post again until Monday.
MrUncleTio, as far as I know, hurling the bag of oil counts as either a move or an action. So that would normally be all you can get away with. But, since I'm going to be out for a few days, I'll throw you a bone. Since you're throwing it at the ground, and liquids don't require accuracy, it just has to be within range of a thrown item. So the Giant Spiders can be hit automatically. But you'll have to select 1 spider. If you don't choose by the time I post IC, I'll just pick the one that makes the most sense to me.
Larskolstad, I'm assuming you are referring to the Giant Spider Black, as the Swarms aren't marked on the map yet, because they're above you and you're not in their attack range yet.
I'm torn here, because I know enough about spiders in general to know that an illusion would not work. Spiders have generally poor vision. They rely on vibrations, mostly, for navigation and hunting prey. But there's nothing specific to their stat block that would prevent them from being fooled by the illusion. As per our discussion on the Deck of Illusions earlier, it's about what the targetted creature believes is true that determines how effective the illusion is. In that spirit, I generally roll CHA vs WIS, to determine if the targetted creature believes that the illusion (and whatever power they use) is real. But that would normally apply to relatively intelligent creatures (3 or above) who are capable of assessing these types of danger levels. In the case of the Carrion Crawler, I gave it to you, because they rely on a variety of senses, and can more easily be deceived by a visual stimulous. When a predator sees a creature it doesn't recognize it generally doesn't attack, as opposed to prey animals, who will either attack, run, or hide. So it would have to actually recognize a Night Hag (DC 15) in order to recognize it, and determine whether or not it's a threat. Since Night Hags have witchy vibes (and I've never met a witch who didn't love spiders) I'm going to assume the spiders would believe the Night Hag is a friend if they do recognize it. The spiders are essentially wild animals, but they don't act like spiders, because they can hunt in packs, and spiders are solitary predators. So... are all bets off? Can they be fooled by a trick of the light? Idk. Feedback is appreciated.
To shortcut things, I'll go ahead and roll to see if the spiders even recognize what a Night Hag is (DC 15): 13 (failed).
Since Giant Spider Black has no idea what a Night Hag is, it will not attack the illusion or feel particularly threatened by it until the Night Hag attempts something that would cause harm, which the rules of the Illusion prevents.
Sure but Merkas honestly believes it so should I have rolled persuasion? It would be a 13 if persuasion makes more sense.
TBH, the request was insincere, which is why I added a laugh emoji to it, because the way you RPd it, I genuinely believe Merkas meant every word. 😊There's no particular reason to Persuade here, because you're not coaxing Yuki into anything. But if you wish to use Persuade to "buck up" another player's character who is dispirited, I'll say you can do that. Beat the opposed check by 5, and the other player will get Heroic Inspiration.
The party was awesome! A few minor setbacks, I may have broken a toe... not sure... it's quite purple. But what's a wild night without a few minor injuries? The drag performers were amazing! It was a Lunar New Year event, which tied in nicely. Because I was holding a funeral for my old life, then celebrating my new one. 🥰
I'm still kinda tired. But I have my laptop and I'm ready to post! Let's rock!
The way I understand the rules of the Deck of Illusions, an illusion can still do what the creature it represents can do, except cause harm.
I am torn on my actions though, because harm can be defined many ways. And causing a PTSD flashback is technically harm. But the Night Hag cannot inflict psychic damage, so it doesn't effect Orr's HP. Rather, it simply triggers a panic reaction from a horrific memory of their past. Which is something that could realistically happen IRL. I have PTSD flashbacks almost daily. I generally choose non-damaging abilities for the illusions summoned. But that's largely because every creature that has been summoned has a non-damaging actions to use. In the case of the Night Hag, pretty much every action she can take causes damage. And with only 1 Night Hag, she can't use less lethal abilities that require the presence of 2 or more Night Hags.
When it comes to Deck of Illusions, a lot of the rules are open to interpretation though. But the way I interpret it, is that the illusion thinks it's real, but somehow constrained from doing damage. It also acts as its own autonamous being, with its own reasons for how it behaves, and therefore attacks whatever it presumes to be the nearest (or biggest) threat within the confines of its do-no-harm restrictions. In this case, that's Hastos or Orr the Unseen, who've done the most damage to the pretty spiders (Spiders are listed as a potential familiar to Night Hags, so it's more likely she doesn't want them killed). Which means the Night Hags magic can cause emotional reactions. Outside of that, she's already pretty nerfed. Without the abiility to attack, she's more-or-less an illusiory diplomat. The Deck of Illusions has historically been a gamble to play. It's a fun deck that throws chaos into a battle scene. As a reward for taking the gamble, I try to find ways for the summoned creature to be helpful first. If I can't find a motivation for it to help the party, it acts exactly the way the same creature would normally act. In this case, she can't hurt you... but it doesn't mean she has to help you. The situation shows more reasons for her to side with the spiders than Dawnbound.
However, I'm reasonable. If you think she wouldn't have been able to pull such a feat off, I can retcon it.
Koko has apparently left the game. He didn't really have much of a chance to add anything to the story, so lets just pretend Yuki was a courier who brought you the warning about assassins, then left.
Sleep well!

I meant the black yes.
I would say some spiders have good vision. Especially the ones who hunt outside a net.
Some spiders ( jumpkng and wolf ) spiders have exelent vision)
Spider that use web attack must see what they attack.
