Questioning the validity of a devoutee's faith is a tough one. She likes you, and won't be angered by the question, but persuading her to abandon what basically amounts to her god, requres a new Persuasion roll.

I rolled for you, and before I tell you the outcome, I'd like to know if you want to use your Heroic Inspiration to roll again.

I roll 21 and this is a good use of heroic inspiration.

If you wish to just wade on through the myconid encampment, I can continue on. If you;re going to blast your way through, I'll get the battle map set up.

Though you do not know how they'll react to your sudden presence, you do know that they work as almost a hive mind, so tales of the threat level you pose have most likely spread to the entire colony by now. That could mean they'll give you a wide berth or flee. It could mean they'll attack with all they've got. I don't even know how they'll respond. I'm gonna roll for it.

I vote for a no- conflict approach, but if they descuide to throw hands… uhh, spores, then we’re burning their house down.

MrUncleTio coming in hot with a winning idea! The lightning javelin can serve as a sort of lightning rod, and a steady supply of lightning magic! It's not a permanent solution, but it will effectively give the myconids a microdose of "medicine" each day.

There's a good chance I'm going to be busy for the rest of the week.

I'm already low-energy, but I have work in a few hours: today and tomorrow. Then, this weekend I'm having friends staying over. It's a tiny apartment that can barely fit what's already in it, so I have to rearrange some stuff to make it so 4 adult humans, and 2 human-sized dogs all feel cozy and comfortable. I will try my best to post as time permits. But I doubt I'll be able to make big commitments. So, if the party starts a fight or something... it'll probably have to wait until next week. 😅

So... is this a short rest or a long rest?

8 hours from now, it will be so early, you could say it's late.Kind of the IRL equivalent of 3 am. So, you can take an extra long rest and work on new Downtime Activities (according to my records, no one has declared new activities, and that's just leaving free skills, languages, and magic items on the table).

Or you can take a standard rest and get an early start.

Or you can take a short rest and work through the night, exploring, training, or whatevs.

In order to level up, you need a long rest. It doesn't entirely have to be fluffed as restful. The process reflects retconned (if it hasn't been RP'd) time spent training and studying (like Orr the Unseen is doing now), a good night's sleep or respite, and waking up with clarity... so you have that *ding* moment, and suddenly the new abilities or spells you've been working on finally make sense and you have your first successful attempt at them.

If a split quest happens, I'll post the different stories in the IC unless you message me and request otherwise. If you prefer to keep your part of the story sperate from the IC, we can either start a split-quest thread or just do a short run in Private Messages. But Private Messages don't archive as long as threads do, so take notes of any important changes in your character sheets if you prefer to do a private message instead of a split thread.

Also, I hope the Orr dialog wasn't too uncomfortable. I tried to keep it as demure as I could.

I feel like their background is a worthy discussion, though. I was trafficked into sex work by my ex-spouse after I became disabled. Once I started transitioning, my ex saw an opportunity and wanted me to make some money. Being a homemaker and primary caregiver to our son wasn't enough of a contribution to them, it would seem. And in order to "carry my weight" I was required to serve clients both online and in-person. I wasn't a particularly prolific worker... that's definitely a young woman's game. But, trans women are fetishized enough for me to bring in a steady supply of small amounts of money. When my "carreer" didn't pay the big bucks my ex thought it would, attitude and treatment of me got significantly more hostile. I was eventually chased out of my own house when my spouse attacked me with a baseball bat.

Following that, the work helped provide enough money for food and medicine that following year. This year, I haven't taken any clients, and I'm happy to be doing something I'm actually passionate about: teaching music. 🥰 Again, I don't make much. But my roommate doesn't insist that I do. I'm working because I want to, and it'll pad my resume if I decide to flee the country to Denmark. Even asylum seekers have to prove employability now. And I'm hoping a part-time job teaching drums, guitar, and bass will be viable enough to get asylum status.

The goal is not to make Orr the Unseen pitiable. But to shed a light on the mentality of someone in their line of work. Some sex workers choose the life... some don't. But all of us understand that our primary role is to provide pleasure and entertainment, not necessarily to receive it. And, if that mindset is allowed to seep into the rest of our lives, it can become our identity. As a free person, no longer shackled by an oppressive and abusive marriage, I have (for the first time in my life) the freedom to live my life the way I want. But I don't know how to do that. I've only ever tried to be what someone else wanted or needed me to be: a good child, a good student, a good spouse, a good worker, a good spouse (again), a good parent, a good fantasy... even a good roommate. This is the first time in my life where no one expects or demands anything of me, and I don't know how to define myself.

Orr the Unseen is going through something similar. Their role, for most of their life, has been as a servant, spy, and intimate entertainer. With their androgynous form and "listener" personality, they were perfect for that role, and Orr never needed to ask themself what they needed or wanted. But now, Orr the Unseen is an adventurer. Adventurers choose their own paths and define themselves... creating their own destiny in spite of even the machinations of the gods. Orr feels lost... adrift like a ship without a sail or rudder. Their first unique whim in their whole life was to join Dawnbound. And in such an unfamiliar territory where their strengths and traits are not as needed, they're following the only pattern they know... how to best serve that guild. I'm not even sure how Orr the Unseen will grow from this experience, but they're quickly becomming my favorite NPC. There's a lot to work with, but nothing is clearly defined, by design. Orr the Unseen is practiced in being a blank slate that anyone can impose their preferred fantasy or image upon. Their needs are small, so they can be easily ignored. Their abilities are finely honed, so they can be of use when desired from others. They are both nothing and anything. And tomorrow... they will become "someone" for the first time in their life. A uniquely designed individual with passion, curiosity, and ambition. They're teaching themself how to acknowledge what they want and need. Orr the Unseen is going to attempt to see themself and be seen by others... which is a scary concept for people like us. Exciting, but scary.

As for first part Sera like an extra long rest to level up. Maybe focus on her very first healing potion. And generally teain and recollect.

As for Orr the Unseen and the story behing Orr as you tell is something I am a but lost about. 

It is very far from my life. I am glad you teach music now  and have a greater feel of self esteem and value. I like see you keep on with that. 

In Norway what happened to you would be unthinkable. The government would help out long before. But for US...things are different. I hope in the future you NEVER be degraded like that.

In America... it's frowned upon. And sort of gray-legal. As in, sex work is illegal in almost every state, but there are loopholes that are easily exploited. And sex workers are largely ignored or abused within the legal system. Sex trafficking is pretty common and sex abuse, under many circumstances, is not punished under our legal system. We are the dirty open secret in America. And you can go downtown in almost any major city, or just open certain apps, and find a partner-for-rent. However, if a sex worker is abused or assaulted and attempts to report it, they (not the abusers) are the ones more likely to serve prison time. I like the way you played it. Not knowing how to respond to that would be an appropriate response from someone from Solamnia, and honestly, a very real response. Some people are disgusted. Some, openly hostile. The better responses are generally more like Sera's: bewilderment and awkwardness. We all know it happens... just like theft, gun violence, and adultery. We just like to pretend it'll never happen to us or anyone we know.

Larskolstad chose Craft Healing Potion

Larskolstad and anyone else who's curious, Feats are not gained in my game by leveling up. You already have access to every feat your race/class combo is allowed to use by making an Ability Check.

The DC is 10+ X (+1 per prerequisite). 

For instance:

• Dual Wielder (DC 10): STR or DEX
• Rune Shaper (DC 11): Casting based ability score (INT, WIS, or CHA)
• Guile of the Cloud Giant (DC 12): STR, CON, or CHA

It gives you a one-shot of the Feats ability and works as a Bonus Action. Feats that can be used multiple times and permanently boost your character sheet, like something that grants you a permanent boost to a skill or ability only remains in effect until the end of your turn, or until the end of a long rest (while performing a ritual or downtime activity).

I swear Merkas better not come back with The One Ring…
