"You are right Merkas even if it could be healing potions that would be helpful" Sera said and put the bottles back.
Snatching the bottle Kasi taste from with a fast move. Bottles it and puts it back on the shelf.
"We are not thiefs...or hipocrites.." she say giving Merkas a challenging look.
"If you like go down scouting go ahead"
“That’s right Sera, we only take what others don’t want, and if they attack us they don’t want their weapons anymore cause we’re going to take them, or if they leave things in dusty sacks to be thrown out, piled in a corner, even when left on display as if to say ‘here take me’, but if they have carefully put it somewhere to keep it all safe then we don’t need to take their special possessions, though it may be best we take it back to them because it wasn’t hidden very well and somebody could just wander off with it” Merkas rambles as he ponders over the maps and the thought of going down another level
Sharn cleared his throat, ignoring his lousy stomach.
"Before I retire this ladder, I can hear work being performed down there. There's something else I can't quite put my finger on. Oddest of all, there's a faint light as well. Last I checked, kobolds could see in the dark."
Sharn waited for the response of his companions, ready to pull up the ladder (or try) as soon as they gave the okay.
The ladder is latched to the chute for safety, but there do seem to be quick-release snaps, in case they need to remove the ladder and protect from invaders. It makes sense. The party slammed into the last ladder pretty hard, and didn't even rattle it.
(There was a whole section that got deleted from this post adding it back in)
Spreading the papers out fir the others to see, Merkas points out the differences to the areas around them. “Looks like they have plans for this area. But this isn’t kobold construction is it Gramna? Like are they making room for a barracks or some other structure?” (13 insight. Trying to gather clues on what kind of structure is being built. Arcane or fortress, worship or sacrifice, holy or profane)
Kasi seems a little offended that Sera snatched her drink away, but her explanation held logic, so she doesn't protest. Instead, she looks at the plans and raises an eyebrow. Her face connotes that she's never seen or knows about, anything like this. "What Letni Inhelk up to? Bad design! Make Letni Inhelk weak to invasion. Big hall good for big enemies. Armies. Bad for kobold."
She paces back and forth. "Kobold mine for ore and gems. But kobold not ruin home by mining. Kobold like natural cave wall. Good for hiding. This not Letni Inhelk. This something else."
"Which brings me back to the suspicion that there's a third party at work here. I'm beginning to suspect that the kobold here are under coercment." Hastos taps his finger against his chin for a moment as he thinks.
"I'm glad we're not killing this group. They're likely operating under some kind of ultimatum"
"Then....we must free them. Merkas might be able too sneak down and check it. Rest of us wait here?" She is obviously worried a bit. "Paladine protect you Merkas"she mutters.
Kasi listens with obvious concern. She wasn't close to Letni Inhelk, but her desire to join their clan stemmed from her tremendous respect for their independence in the war. Their queen was wise, fully understanding that kobolds would find no place of favor on either side of the war, and were better off staying out of it. The price of that is that the other clans viewed them as traitors. If some other force overcame them, then Letni Inhelk has likely lost their queen. Both Santekh and Letni Inhelk would be in danger in that case.
"Masters must rescue Letni Inhelk. If queen dead, Santekh next." Her expression turns to one of grim resolve, and she grips her bow so tight its wood groans under the pressure.
Nodding to himself as he stands at the ladder thinking. “Glynnis’ brew would be good….huh? Oh yeah, we gotta get more info. I’m good to take a look”
Setting down his pack as he moves to the ladder. “Bring it down with you Sharn? If I don’t come back leave it here so I can haunt it would you?” Winking as he heads down the ladder not even making it creek (Stealth 21). Moving along in the dark he starts watching for whats happening on the lower level. (Perception 10 with 3 from guidance total of 13)
Merkas descends the ladder with ninja-like stealth, almost seeming to float down the ladder.
He pauses a moment as kobolds walk out of the area below after responding to some barking calls by other kobolds. Then, he sneaks out of Dawnbound's limited range of view.
Several minutes pass without any signs of distress.
Everyone except Merkas may roll Perception checks to see if you can hear anything beyond the distant sounds of clanking metal on stone and the indecipherable barking of kobolds in the space below.
Sera stood at the edge of the ladder, gripping her sword hilt tightly as she watched Merkas descend like a whisper into the darkness below. His small frame disappeared into the abyss of the third level, swallowed by the flickering shadows cast by her glowing blade.
She inhaled deeply and muttered a quiet prayer to Paladine, her fingers tightening around the hilt. Keep him safe… or at least give him the speed to run when
Her thoughts trailed off. She knew Merkas too well. If there were enemies down there, the first sign wouldn’t be a subtle call for help—it would be the unmistakable sound of frantic footsteps, his voice carrying up the ladder with an excited, “Oops! Run!”
She strained her ears, trying to pick up anything—whispers, shuffling feet, the clang of weapons. But the underground air was still, thick with the scent of damp stone and old metal. It was almost too quiet.
Damn it, Merkas…
Sera exhaled, forcing herself to stay ready. She adjusted her grip on her shield, bracing herself for whatever was about to come scrambling up that ladder.

Sharn took one last glimpse of Merkas disappearing into the darkness, then he sat. By now, the dwarf trusted his allies implicitly. Not only had fate itself chosen them, they had proven themselves capable under peculiar circumstances. Sharn wished he had his staff, it would've let him dig, and search for meaning about the evil in the tunnels. His hands would not be the same, yet he still tried. His fingers dug into the softest parts of ground, but rather than to keep on digging, he closed his eyes trying to to catch a feeling or a glimpse of things unseen and yet to be.

With a lot of attention being focused down the into the next level, Hastos turns to keep an eye behind them in case anyone attempts to flank them.
Using Passive Perception:
You notice one of the kobolds roll over onto their side and shuffle a bit. The light from Sera's Flame Sword doesn't extend into the chamber. And with the obscurity of the hallway, it's hard to make out more than a silhouette against the contrasting light of the firepit you lit for them.
Merkas remains out of sight and silent, sending no evidence of struggle or distress. But the clock is ticking, and you can't help but suspect that you're running out of time before you are flanked.
Sera look down the passage and do not lift her head but whisper to Hastos and Sharn "the kobolds waking up or someone found them...whatever we do now will be bad choices...the other kobolds must know we are here."
Feeling they fast run out of time and the choice will be made for them Sera look back " but seems our kender is quiet like a shadow and a battle right here on the entrance to whoevere is down there might rise the alarm down there"
. She starts to walk towards the chamber south to see whats happening there.
Sera arrives back at the campfire to see that Kobold Yellow has started to stir. He's rolled over on his side, but hasn't opened his eyes yet. You can hear him whining in pain, but it sounds feint, and you get the impression he's not having a very good dream.
Kobold Pink and Kobold Blue are sleeping in a pile together, and have started kicking their legs. Soon, they're going to start waking up.

Hastos watches concernedly as Sera walks south to check things out. He sighs and shakes his head. “She’s a fierce fighter, Hastos.” He says to himself. “Worrying is a distraction. She’ll let the two of us know if she needs help. Eyes up and back this way.” Hastos smirk fades as he refocuses on the hole Merkas went down.
”I hate waiting.” He says to Sharn with a chuckle.
Sera moved swiftly back to the tied-up kobolds, her heart weighed down by the realization that these creatures might not have been true villains—just pawns in someone else’s cruel game. One of them was already stirring, his bruised snout twitching as he groaned in pain.
Kneeling beside them, she inspected their wounds, her fingers gentle as she checked for anything serious. They had been knocked out, not slain, and for that, she was grateful. Maybe they deserved her anger earlier, but now… now she saw them differently.
( medicine 21)
With a steady breath, she took her dagger and carefully cut the ropes binding them, making sure they were unarmed but not helpless. The small kobold that had a bad dream twitched as the restraints loosened, but Sera only pressed a hand against his shoulder, offering silent reassurance. "So so...it will be ok..." she said softly.
She reached into her tunic and pulled forth the symbol of Paladine, letting the faint glow of her sword catch the intricately carved platinum dragon. Would they recognize it? Would they even care? "Help me make them understand Father..." ( give herself guidance )
"Not enemy," she said, her voice firm but soft. She met the kobold’s wary eyes and hoped, prayed, that there was still a way to reach them with something other than a blade. Maybe he knows simple common. ( persuasion 13 with guidance)
"OooOoooh ShaaaArn, yooOoou waAatched my Pack, ThaAnk YoOouu, he he he, I can't can't do that, I would just tell him I found a bigger blueprint, and some journal written in draconic, oh and I am coming back to, just so they wouldn't be scared"

At your gentle touch, Kobold Yellow visibly calms. But his relaxed sigh turns to a wince of pain as his eyes flutter. There's no recognition in his dull eyes as he regains consciousness, and you can tell he's concussed. But as his dull gaze fixates on the dragon hilt, his expression turns from pain to confusion. He peers up into Sera's kind, brown eyes, and gasps softly. He seems to want to be afraid, but is too disoriented to make sense of it. He whispers something in slurred Yip-Yak.
Kasi watches Sera with interest from a distance, still keeping close to the ladder. She can't hear what you and the kobold are saying. She looks down at the dirt and pushes a pebble with her toe, then rubs her stiff neck. This is all very confusing, and she's not sure what to think about what's going on with Letni Inhelk, this war, her place in Santekh, and whether or not the Dawnbound can be trusted. Sometimes Sera can be very harsh and calculating. Other times, so soft and kind. Hastos appears to be fighting for justice, and shows immense loyalty to Dawnbound, but clearly bares the mark of the Green Dragon. Merkas is a kind-hearted mischief-maker, who's curiosity and craftiness reminds her of kobolds she knew in her youth, and Sharn is unlike any dwarf he's ever met. Gentle and peace-loving, but with a distant air that borders on fatalism. To her, he acts like the shamans and mystics who used to philosophize to her own tribe, but without showing even a hint of the cautious (often perceived as cowardice) nature that her mystics so often preached. So when violence is chosen, it reveals itself in devastating and powerful ways. As a warrior, she's known a life of violence. And everyone has to chose their own path. A "real" kobold outsider would view Letni Inhelk as a lost cause if the queen has been overthrown and leave immediately. But she also wants to get to the bottom of this and save Letni Inhelk from whatever is down there. Even at the cost of her own life if needed. But she can't bring herself to kill her own kind. Kobolds will bend to the will of a powerful overlord. Even if that overlord is cruel. If Letni Inhelk is ordered to kill Kasi and Dawnbound she'll be faced with a tough decision: run, kill, or die. And what will Dawnbound choose? They don't seem to run from anything. Sharn nearly died trying to rescue her by fighting those thugs by himself. Her face turns grim. They'd probably kill. Slash their way right up to whomever is in charge and run a sword right into their heart. That might end the threat, but it will leave Letni Inhelk in shambles. Leaderless, broken, decimated. Another ruined and disgraced clan. Could she even bare the knowledge that she was part of that? Could she live with that again?
Her thoughts shift to the task at hand when Merkas appears on the ladder with a small, grimy book in his hand.

A little sip doesn't do much. You feel a warm sensation for a brief moment. It smells, and tastes, like a healing potion. Crisp, and lightly sweet.
