“That’s right! You’re just dust in the wind, we’re too much for you!” Merkas yells as the second mephit runs as soon as they arrive. “Told ya Barkly, they don’t lime us one bit, we got thi….hyuck” Words cut off by a spew of vomit as his body finds a way to expel the toxins. “Well that’s better, what Ya think Barkly, we go after the wind thing or…..ORR!” The half orcs’ body slams to the earth nearby after being ejected from the wind creatures gale “That is it! You’re just an old blow hard” Merkas springs from Barkly’s back and runs at the assailant, “Keep them safe girl, I’m going take the wind outta this things sails!”
Blue ‘demon’ Yabbak runs up to the whirling dervish opposite one of Tanas ‘hounds’ and slashes at it with his daggers, attempting to connect with whatever solid portion of this thing exists. Splinter and Shard in hand he attacks quickly, trying to get as much out of the attacks as possible. His first swing strikes true and solid, seemingly doing damage to the wind based creature, Shard coming in behind with a bit of extra slice and splice.
(Attack with advantage due to Crunch or Munch flanked with him. Splinter To Hit plus sneak attack: Nat 20+10 for 30, Dmg: 17 piercing, Nik: Shard To Hit: 14, dmg: 1, Bonus Action Two weapon fighting Shard To Hit: 24, dmg: 4)
After his flourish of his blades he screams at the whirlwind “Arrrgh, you ain’t nothing more than a gentle breeze. Makes my hair blow all majestic and heroic!” (Intimidation from campaign notes, trying to make frightened: 17)
From her vantage point, Sera saw Orr go down hard—again. The air elemental battered him mercilessly, invisible blows slamming him into stone and dust. Her jaw clenched. Enough.
Now everyone turned on the elemental at once.
Behind them, the illusion she had conjured—a towering giant looming out of the haze—finally did its job. The dust mephits scattered in a panic, dissolving back into the ruins.
“Good riddance,” Sera muttered, relief flickering through her even as the danger remained.
She planted her feet and focused, lifting her voice in a short, fierce prayer. “Father… burn it away.”
( sacred flame. Save dex 13 or take 6 radiant dam)
Radiant fire erupted around the air elemental in a sudden flash of holy light, flames biting into whirling currents and tearing at its form. The creature shrieked as its cohesion faltered.
Sera didn’t wait to see if it was enough.
Her sunblade ignited with a sharp hiss of energy, bathing her armor in gold and white. She raised it, ready to strike if the elemental survived the fire—prepared to finish what Paladine’s flame had begun.
Hastos rushes to support Merkas as he viscously attacks the air elemental. Brandishing the great axe, with blinding speed, he takes position next to Merkas as his attack concludes.
Merkas's daggers slice through the spiralling wind with majestic precision. But even with those surgical strikes, the wind stabilzes with each strike. It is evident that the cuts are hurting though, and the Air Elemental looks to be suffering greatly. A few more powerful strikes should finish it off!
WIS Save vs Initimation (DC 17): 6 Air Elemental has the Frightened Condition. DR reduces the damage by 1/2.
As the Air Elemental quivers in fear from Merkas's flurry of strikes, it eruptes in a starbust flame of justice, become a whirling inferno of holy light! A thuderous roar crackles in the sky. The Air Elemental survives, but its wail indicates that it is not long for this world.

Air Elemental Save vs Intimidation DC 12: 17 (Dis)
The Air Elemental abrubtly stops its pained wailing as Hastos approaches, roaring, as it was startled by your approach. Then, it lunges at you, slower than usual, but still with deadly intent! Its first swing is cumbersome, and unfocused, swiping short of Hastos by several feet. But the next balled fist of air pummels you like a battering ram, slamming into your breastplate with a force that rattles your bones!
Air Elemental moves towards Hastos. Air Elemental uses Thunderous Slam: 9 (Miss), 28 (Crit) Damage: 18
The Illusory Cloud Giant contorts its face into one of pure rage and stomps along the ground, a thunderous sound that shakes the earth below you! Then, just before it reaches Tana's pets, it blinks out of existence!
It reappears almost instantly atop the very rock the Air Elemental spawned from and begins roaring at the beleagered and overwhelmed Air Elemental!
Shaken to its core, the Air Elemental whirls around, wailing in fear and frustration. As Orr the Unseen drags their tattered body to a stand, they watch the terrifying scene unfold with a slack jaw. They waste no time on the advantage presented though, and charges the magic through their hands. Vwoop! Vwoop! Vwoop! They descend upon the Air Elemental in rapid succession!
Orr the Unseen uses Arcane Burst (Adv): 11 (Miss), 23 (Hit), 19 Hit Minimum Damage is more than enough.
Glowing bullets of force roil inside the Air Elemental, and it's death rattle echoes into the sky. Once it fades, all that remains, is a small blue and gray rock. When it rolls on the ground it catches the light from the burning sky and almost seems to flash like a thunderstorm.
Huffing and leaning heavily on her club, Tana's eyes perk up at the sight of the vanquished creature. The presence of the roaring Cloud Giant curbs her enthusiasm, but she still pants out defiantly, "My... hahh... rrrrock."
The battle is over. You each gain 3,000 XP and find one Blue and Gray fist-sized rock, and one Brown rock. There are enough context clues for your to recognize that they are capable of summoning Elementals. Tana obviously wants them, but you can attempt to claim them.
While tremendous, Hastos somehow feels the armor ripple and absorbe much of the force. However, the remaining force of the blow ripples through Hastos’ body. He feels bones crack and excruciating pain and the blow sends Hastos reeling backward. Hastos rams the edge of his shield into the ground, using it to keep himself from dropping to the ground.
”Seemed… like a… good idea at the… time.” He barely managed to wheeze out.
At last, the air elemental faltered—its swirling form breaking apart, winds collapsing into nothingness. With a final howl, it dispersed into the poisoned heat.
Sera let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding and waved her hand, dismissing the illusion of the towering giant. The mirage faded like smoke.
She rushed toHastos first, then to Orr. Both were wounded and breathing hard
Behind them, the battered ogre whined and gestured urgently toward the scattered stones left behind where the elemental had fallen. The rocks pulsed faintly with residual energy. Summoning stones. The sight of them made Sera uneasy.
“This place will kill us if we linger,” she said tightly, kneeling beside her companions. “Can I heal you—at least a little?”
She glanced up at Merkas, concern sharp in her eyes. “Merkas… are we really leaving air-elemental summoning stones to Tana?”
Her hand hovered, ready to call on Paladine’s light again—while her instincts screamed that they needed to move, and fast.
After the Cloud Giant dissipates, Tana rises to her full height and lumbers over towards you. Her pets take up position on her flank. She appears uneasy about Sera talking to Merkas. She's in no shape for another fight. And now that she's seen some of what you can do, she has a healthier respect for the danger you pose as enemies. Still, she seems hesitant to give up those summoning stones easily.
"We made deal.... my rocks." She fidgets with her greatclub nervously. One of her eyes is swollen nearly shut, and her swollen lips make her voice sound blubbery. There's less of a tone of threat in her voice. It sounds more like indignation.
As Tana is walking over to them Merkas responds to Sera under his breath “You really wanna fight her and her hounds?”
At Tana’s demand Merkas looks her over, reaches down and picks up the wind elemental stone holding it out to her. “Your rock, we agreed to help you get this hard one, we want the brown rock for our trouble, also point the way that is safe to leave, And if you see us again you can avoid hurting us, no?” (19 Persuasion)
Merkas whistles for Barkly to bring Buckeran and Orr over with the group, hoping being at the centre of where wind elementals disturbance was will give them some more time before the noxious fumes return.
Sera looked at the ogre and immediately noticed where all her attention lay—fixed entirely on the stones left behind by the dispersing elemental. The summoning rocks still radiated faint, unsettling energy.
“Tana…” Sera said cautiously, her gaze never leaving the stones. “You keep collecting things like this. Tell me again—why do you need them? How did you even start gathering such items?”
She nodded briefly to Merkas, a silent agreement passing between them. One stone for the ogre, one taken by Merkas. It felt wiser not to let all of them leave her hands. Power like this should never be hoarded unchecked.
Throughout it all, Sera kept her shining sunsword ignited, the blade crackling softly with divine energy. Ready. Watching. Trusting—but only just.
Tana swivels her head between Merkas and Sera, an almost cow-eyed look in her eyes as she ponders an internal dilemna. It's not normal for ogres to engage in conversations like this. Ogre says they want something, underlings make it happen. Forcing her to justify her actions feels backwards somehow. But the ever-present threat of the flaming sword was nothing to ignore. And... in spite of Dawnbound's power, you seem to be reasonable.
Her face goes through several expressions as she slowly contemplates her position. Scared, sad, nervous, angry, disgusted, desperate, pleading... it's like watching a silent meltdown in slow motion. But ogres aren't unintelligent... it just takes them longer to reach the same conclusion that a person of average intelligence would. After a painfully long time, she huffs. A scowl forms on her face, and she sets her jaw. The expression looks determined, not malicious.
"Tana need power to save clan. Good home. Gone. Dragon take away home. Tana learn secret of rocks. Rocks saves Tana's clan."
As evidence of her knowledge, she pulls out a brown stone... it looks like gravel in her massive fist. She drops it on the ground and utters a word unknown to any of you. The earth spins around the rock, and a Dust Mephit appears. But it shows no interest in attacking or defending. As a summoned creature, it is duty bound to the summoner, and will only attack if Tana wills it to. To prove the point, Tana tugs at the Dust Mephit's ears and boops its nose. The Dust Mephit tolerates the act stoically and without any apparent care in the world. Then, she shrugs and repeats the word, and the Dust Mephit returns to its rock.
"Tana have enough brown rocks. Ugly demon," she points a thick, calloused finger at Merkas, "can have brown rock." She holds out her hand for the gray-and-blue rock. "Then Tana show the way out."
Ogres can live in packs, but usually leave their nest when they reach adulthood, to seek out underlings to serve them. It's pretty common for an ogre to take up housing with a goblinoid clan who become their servants in exchange for protection against larger threats. But ogres are only loyal to their underlings as long as it serves to their benefit. If her underlings were defeated and/or scattered, she most likely would've either died trying to protect them, or wandered off to find a new cave to claim. The most likely conclusion, based on her tone and dedication, is that she is a den mother. Instinct is driving her to protect her children against an impossibly powerful foe. Elementals are barely a nuisance to a dragon. The strategy has lots of holes, but it follows ogre logic: power in numbers. She's most likely going to throw a horde of subservient elementals at a dragon, and then charge in with all her might... hoping to get enough hits in to win the battle before the dragon can eat her.
Sera looks at the ogre stunned " dragon? You collect to summon elementals so u can chase away a dragon...o ****..a dragon ..seriously? What color?" Do she even dare ask? This mission turned suddenly very dangerous.
Handing over the stone as agreed, Merkas smiles as he asks, “Was your clan home in an old dragon den before the new dragon took over? We are looking for an old den to try and help clean the dangerous magic from around our home.”
He pats Barkly as she draws near, as much to comfort himself as calm the strider while near Tanas “hounds”.
The barrage of questions overwhelms Tana and she stands there a bit dumbfounded by your interest. She's not used to humans, elves, and little blue demons offering to help. After what feels like long enough for you to want to wave your hand at her to see if she's not having a stroke, she reaches out and takes the stone.
"Blue. Big one. Tana live in cave for many years. Raise younglings there. Many humans come first. Tana's family eat them. But then... they come with big. blue. dragon. Tana keep family safe. We run to find new cave. But new cave too small. Tana fight for home while family hides."
“That is very strong of you Tana, we are fighting for our home too. Which way to get out safe?”
Merkas slows and simplifies his speech a little so he doesn’t overwhelm her again. “We are happy to have helped you, thank you for helping us”
(What would I roll to remember the summoning word Tana used for the Mephit? I rolled intelligence (8) and then realized it might need to be arcana or survival or something)
Tana nods, bends at the waist, and pats Merkas on the head, a hefty affair that bounces your head up and down. But even so, it's gentler than you'd expect from an ogre. She puts the summoning stone away and starts lumbering eastward without another word. It would seem she is going to assume you'll follow her.
