Buckeran pulls out a book, titled Elder Cartographer's Glossography. "Emmmemmemememem... let me see here. I'm afraid I haven't fully mastered this particular item, But there is no finer resource for travel and navigation in all the land. Hmm...." he chatters excitedly as he pulls out his monacle. "The text and maps within the pages are impossible to read unless you belong to a specific guild, and are of high enough rank. But my monacle has special advantages to deciphering and sheilding me from magic and magical barriers. It's not entirely effective though against these wards. The information I can decipher is vague and undefined. It's not unlike navigating the ocean without a scope. I hope to one day unravel its mysteries fully and transcribe what I find in this book, but the maps change constantly. It retrieves for you the maps and region-specific lore that you need, though I can mostly only make out the maps. So, you must constantly focus on the map that you wish to retrieve while copying it. I'm afraid I simply lack the focus and mental fortitude to hold the image long enough to copy them with certifiable accuracy."
He focus intently while the Dust Mephit, encased in crystal, moves its eyes from Buckeran, to Sera, to Merkas... the only part of its body it even can move right now.
"AH! Here... ok..." he traces a finger along the blank page as if following a trail. "It looks to me that we are in one of two main hallways that lead to the lower floor. DAMN it! It's attempting to conjure a map of the lower floor. Bare with me a moment."
He focus harder, chewing on his lip as he concentrates. "Ah... we're back. Two hallways... yes. To our northwest and southeast, there are smaller pathways, perhaps as servant passages that... I believe, lead to the lower DAMN IT!"
Frustrated, he takes off his monacle and chuckles sheepishly. "As you see, it's a work in progress. But, I'm certain that there are multiple pathways to the lower floor. However, they are likely to be riddled with traps. Due to the age and..." he scuffs some muddy scum with his soft elven boots to make his point, then scowls, pulls a handkercheif out, and polishes his boots clean again, "... decrepit nature of the den, it's possible that the more simplistic traps have fallen into decay. But any magical traps will most likely still be in effect. I second the idea of using wind or rain to clear the tunnel. Poor Dusty though. He tried his best." He turns his sympathetic expression towards Dusty, hoping to divert attention from his struggles in mastering the book.
If Dusty survives, Merkas can now summon or dismiss it by calling it Dusty and commanding it to do so, now that it has been named.
Behind you, the myconid sprouts seem amused by Dusty's struggles, but show concern that Buckeran is pointing east and west. The other myconids are slowly approaching and catching up to watch the view. When they understand the sprouts' concerns, they wobble their heads, and the sprouts closest to you begin to back up.
Based on what you can see, the circled areas seem to be what Buckeran is describing as the available passageways.
Sera blinks as Buckeran use 3 minutes to basically answer ....maybe...
" Paladine give me patience..."
" setting off a bunch of traps seems like worse idea...ok. I try wash away the dust...
( cast create water 2nd level. 35 diameter area)
" my lord..please clean our path..." and same time she use some mud from previous downpour...and plint up at the most dusty area she can spot...a chilling fresh shower cover the area...
She cast a glance at the others when they look up to see if it worked. She is down to only her most powerful spells left. She worry a bit. What if she needs to bring one back from the dead? Soon that option will be closed...
“Hang on Dusty, we’re gonna try some things and if they don’t work I’ll let ya go to sleep and have you join us again later ok?” Merkas looks over Bucky’s shoulder at the page “Looks mostly blank to me, what’s this over here, a coffee stain, or the druid circle back home!” Merkas asks and points at the map like a child pointing at parts of a magic eye picture while others are trying to get their eyes to focus properly.
“Sera, I’m starting to think Paladine is trying to give you patience, but he has to keep testing it to make sure it sticks. Maybe you should stop asking for more?”
“If washing off the small crystal dust doesn't work should we try yo go the other two ways? Maybe split up and check them? We can talk through the guild rings if need be”
Looking at Yuki and hoping it is not flammable " we had a battle near the entrance...The giant strider breathed fire and we had a fireball by Orr also..the crystals seems non flammable....well now I soaked it anyway..."
“Judging by the way things just blow up out of nowhere around here, it’s more likely they’re gonna explode than burn” Merkas agrees. Watching closely for signs of the rain dissolving the crystal. “You’d think there would be a way to turn this off, unless this is a trick entrance, like we’re actually ‘spose’d to go the other two ways”
The rain settles the crystal dust, and washes more of it free from the crystal walls and ceilings. Trails of glittery water form tiny rivers as they arc and bend around the textures of the tunnel. But even once the dust is settled, Dusty and the dead creatures inside it remain transfixed, like glittering trophies and statues.
Sera's test proves hopeful. Her bedroll is soaked, but it pulls back clean. When you pick up the bedroll, crystals are embedded in the fabric underneath. Most of them fall away on their own. And when brushed off, they fall to the floor in soggy clumps that ooze apart like mud. The water seems to resist, but not entirely prevent, the crystalization process. Based on this observation, it appears that the wise approach to advancing this way, is to make a mad dash through it while the rain is pouring.
Hastos watches the mud as it seems to try and re-crystallize. “Perhaps we should make a run for it while the rain is still coming down?” he asks the team.
As the other rush off Merkas hunches low on Barkly’s saddle leaning to one side. “Ok Dusty, you can go to sleep again, I’m comin’ to get’cha.” Patting Barkly on the neck he says kindly to the strider, “Keep pace with the others but I wanna get Dusty back ok. Hold on tight Bucky”
With that they three of them start into the area, being sure to swing by the encased dust mephit, Merkas attempts to swing down and collect the mephit core as they move by but ends up slipping off the saddle and dangling from the reigns instead.(Acrobatics-6 pretty bad) “Keep going I’ll catch up”He drops free into the mud and grabs the mephit core and runs along with the others.
" Then run! No time to waste.....may Paladine protect us.." She give Orr the unseen a Guidance..for helping him get safe across.
She think he gotten lots if beating lately.
Sera then sprint over so muddy crystal sand splatter around.
( dex +ath 24 she runs fast and hopefully not slip with that roll))
Sera blasts through the tunnel! In spite of the slippery terrain, she's a blur. Even slipping doesn't seem to slow her movement, and she sometimes lopes on all fours without skipping a beat. It's a savage, desperate run. A rapidfire *whenk-whenk-whenk* sound approaches her and Hastos blasts past her at impossible speeds. He seems to still be enjoying the benefits of the Haste spell, and his legs flutter under him like a mockingbirds wings. She makes it to the cobbled stone pathway just barely, and the chamber opens up. The light in here is almost blinding, as the crustals within this chamber radiate as if affected by Dancing Lights. While you notice that there is some crystal goo on your hands, knees, and boots, they're easily shaken off.
Hastos bolts after Sera, the faint sound of squeaking leather echos in the cavern.
The haste spell effect on you grants you terrifying speed. You're not so much running as hydroplaning across the tunnel. A wake of water trails behind you, and the downpour stings your face. You overtake Sera in an instant, and blast past her, making it past the cobblestone walkway with enough forward velocity that stopping proves difficult. You skid to a halt just inches from the opposite crystal wall. The crystal sediment never even touches you, since you barely touched the ground.
MrUncleTio I rolled an Athletics check for you, so you get a full Dash. With Haste included, you still have 70' of movement to work with, if you choose to use it.
Yuki watches the two bolt off, and jogs after them, keeping an eye on himself of any signs of a fate similar to mephit.
Yuki takes a more methodical approach, choosing sure footing over speed. He makes it part of the way through the tunnel, observing that Hastos and Sera seem mostly unbothered by the crystal soup. Some of the gunk gathers around your sandals, but it doesn't seem to be bonding, and you feel certain you can scrape it off after getting through the tunnel. But something is making it harder to breathe and you start coughing.
Meanwhile, Merkas, Buckeran, and Barkly overtake you! Merkas reaches for the Dust Mephit core, and snags it, but falls off the saddle with the effort. You see Merkas order Barkly to carry on, and she obeys dutifully. Carrying a protesting Buckeran with her.
As the slowest one, you are able to notice that the tiles do light up as your comrades blast over them. Some stay lit even after they're no longer occupied, but diminish after a consecutive number of tiles are stepped on. There seems to be a pattern to which the tiles must be activated to reopen the gate that the rest of your party went through.
TheBeanestOfBeans please roll a Constitution Save Throw (DC 10) to avoid the Poisoned Condition. I rolled a check for Hastos, because I felt his Haste effect required it. But you can roll one as well to hurry through the tunnel, which will get you 15' futher. You'll still won't make it to the cobblestones and will have to roll the CON Save, but you'll be able to make it on your next attempt, reducing the number of rolls you need to make while in the tunnel.

Dusty gratefully returns to its home plane, and its core appears on top of his crystal coffin. You scoop it up easily, but lose your balance and tumble to the floor! "Merkas my booyyyyyyyy!" Buckeran calls out, reaching for you as Barkly obediently carries her remaining passenger to safety.
Now covered in the crystal muck, you can feel it itch as it attempts to bond to you. But the deluge causes it to break apart. Not wasting a moment, you scamper off through the tunnel. Fortunately, the distance covered from Barkly was enough of a head start to grant you safe passage to the cobblestone pathway, where you can begin scraping off the crystal goo.
Hrothbert_Neruca as the one who has interacted the most with the crystal goo, you're beginning to appreciate its properties. Feel free to roll a Nature check, and I'll PM you an update on what Merkas believes. Arcana will work also, but with diminished results.
Orr the Unseen attempts to thank Sera for the Guidance... they're definitely feeling rundown, and the boost is appreciated. But Sera is off and gone before the words even come out. They just smile instead and makes a mad dash through the tunnel. Exhausted as they already are, the trek does not go smoothly, and they start to slip. But golden light emanates softly around them and they find their footing. Scampering through the tunnel, and positively soaked, they overtake Yuki and make it most of the way through the tunnel before they start coughing. They spit out a clump of mucus and ready themself to carry on! But they're not safe yet!
Rolling DEX check (Dis from Exhaustion I) to ignore Terrain: 14+3 = 17 Rolling CON check (Dis Exhaustion I) to avoid Poisoned Condition: 14 (Guidance not needed)
Using my next turn now to speed up the game and moving the last 15' to safety.
Huffing and scrambling, they close the distance to the cobblestone pathway, looking back at Yuki, and beckon him to hurry! "The air is still poisonous! Hurry!" Then, they hunch over, resting their hands on their knees, and gasp in the fresh air. For once, they do not marvel at the glittery chamber. This den is clearly taking a toll on them.
The path northeast seems to lead to the entrance to the lower level. Skiterring sounds echo off the cavern walls. They sound larger than small insects or crustacians. There is danger lurking in the twinkling lights.
(12 Nature for understanding the goo. Used Tides of Chaos to gain advantage. This means DM can call for a wild magic roll on my next spell casting, 12 Perception for the glowing plates and the pattern showing, Nat 20 for 23 Acrobatics check to finish the trip through the chamber)
Shaking like a wet dog, Merkas chases after the others he says to the harengon as he does “Hey Yuki, sorry for this being you first experience with us, but at least it’s the dirtiest you’re gonna get, maybe”
Merkas squints in the light trying to peer back at what may be causing the poisonous atmosphere and watching the lights dim on the various plates. “Another dragon puzzle? Wonder if it’s a rainbow type thing?”
As the others arrive at the far side of the cave, Hastos asks the group “Looks like I’ve still got a little running speed left. I could dash forward and do some recon up ahead. What do you think?”
" Absulitely not!" She say louder than intended "why would you RUN into dangerous areas alone? Shh listen. It is something here....right up ahead." Sera watch but also sreps closer to Hastos in a clear display she not want him running off on his own.
Yuki coughs, his lungs rattling for a bit but shaking whatever it was that got into his lungs (Con Save Result: 11). He notices the patterns on the ground left by the group, and decides to do something about it.
He whips his longsword around, activating his Bladesong and Casting Haste on himself. He then holds his breath, which he can do for at least two minutes, and proceeds to try to light up all of the tiles at the same time by running over them over and over again until they all stay lit.
(Using his two actions, the additional given to him by the Haste spell, to Dash twice, and his speed boosted by Bladesinging, he can move 240 feet per turn for a minute while holding his breath.)
