When they get to the tavern, they are greeted Farek Ironscale who is inspecting every one who enters. “ Ahh, its you two. Welcome back. We are still seeking that green birdman, but so far no sign of him yet. He will be taught a lesson when we do find him” he says whole indicating his giant maul.
One of the serving girls guide Chankla and Peet to the only table with space left. Right next to and interesting looking fellow, Githyanki by the looks of him, who is already enjoying his meal and some ale.

We busted on some goblins gang who stealed pies and animals from farms. Theys even snatched a dwarf boy. My names Salt Peet an this is friend Chankla” he says as he points to the kenku next to him and they both sit down next to you. you instinctively look at the color of his feathers and notice they are black and not green.

Soon, the time for the show comes up, but there seems to be a delay. A few minutes pass and you see the puppet master Juggut come out from behind the stage scratching his head and then goes to talk to Bashir, the other dragonborn who heads up the stairs soon after. Juggut then brings out a different placard to replace the one for the Zargaz story.

the show was a fun battle between goblins and gnomes. Neither side could get the advantage. The little green puppets pulling at rope trying to topple a giant mushroom where the gnomes were holed up and the sneaky gnomes always managed to snip the rope or make the goblins fall over one way or another until evey puppet was covered in what looked like mud and in the end they shook hands and went their separate ways. There was lots of laughter at the antics and in the end, most patrons were satisfied with their meals and the show.
Before heading off after the dinner and show, Peet and Chankla with offer to meet you in the morning to head to the town office, collect rewards and plan the next move.
In the night, you hear small tip tapping in the hallway, like little feet running by. You also momentarily hear the door knob to your room jiggle a little, maybe a push on the door.
Morning comes quickly and as you head down the hallway to the stairs , you see one of the rooms doors propped open and several town soldiers seem to be carrying a body out of the room. The deceased is a human man, seems to be shriveled up, like a dried husk. You are fairly certain you saw this gentleman at dinner last night, healthy and alive.
I will ritually cast detect magic in my room and go back in hallway and see what I can see. (I have 15 passive investigation). I try to stand so they need to bring body past me. Then as the go down stairs I will move to go towards the room and see what I can see (19 active investigation )
As they pass with the body you can see multiple dark spots which seem like they may have been bruises, but with the dried conditions of the flesh its hard to be sure. There is a lingering aura of magic, but too faint to tell the school. As they go down the stairs you are able to slip into the room. Everything seems to be orderly and none of the guys belongs seem to have been disturbed. You are about to leave when out of the corner of your eye you see a small tuft of what appears to be red felt and a small button made from bone.
Under the bed the man has a small footlocker with intact padlock style lock, it seems to be undisturbed. There are no closets in the rooms, just small night table and chair along with the bed. Next to the table is the man’ adventuring gear/ backpack with a swordbelt wrapped around it with a short sword and dagger. There is also a walking staff leaned against the wall, nice and orderly. Only the bed is messed up a bit, so it doesnt appear the guy got a chance to fight back.
As you snoop around Salt Peet walks past the door to the room and then back steps and addresses you. “ Heys Mr. Vox. Has yous seen friend Chankla this morning? We wents to sleep last nights and when I wokes he was gone. No signs, no notes and no words.”
“ Friend Chankla was in my rooms. We wuz sharing” Peet will take you to their room . You can see Peet’s gear set next to his bed, underneath his bed is a medium sized chest with a particularly strange looking lock on it. Chankla’s bed is in good order, all made up and neat. You don’t see any sign of his gear

The lock on Peet’s chest glows brightly, and you notice the key hole looks a lot like a mouth. On the little table there are lots of bits of random metal pieces and wood chunks along with Peet’s tool set. There is also a parchment with some crude drawings of what resembles a cannon of some sort.

Yes voth would have locked the door as well as put something that would make noise if opened. (Like a chair on the floor to cause someone to trip )
