Peet will hold his hands like a clock, and then move them to indicate a bout an hours movement.
you head to the town hall, marveling at just how busy this little town has gotten in a short time. Lots of people out for adventure, early this year. The season is off to a great start. You enter the stone building and are greeted with a hearty “hello!”, you two are met by the elusive Mayor Dreamleaf himself. “ Come in boys, come in. Welcome to Knockon Wood. Please sign the guest book for posterities sake.” The Mayor is an old human druid, his features wrinkled but, his eyes are bright and wise. He points to a thick, leather bound tomb opened about 3/4 through the pages. With signatures and messages of all kinds, written in many languages and some just hand or claw prints. He also motions to the job board where several 3” square pieces of parchment hang. A little shelf with a stack of empty parchment squares and pencil sit next to it. “ if you wish to complete a quest or job from the board, merely take one from the board and myself or the bailiff will stamp it. And once you have completed the task and brought back any requested evidence, you simply hand it in here and get paid. If you yourself require a job done, or need to hire people for whatever reason, fill out a square and post it.”
Mayor Dreamleaf goes on to give you the run down to the basic laws and traditions of the town, everything pretty common sense, and lets you know there is a garrison of veteran soliders for defense of the town and to arrest evil doers. He also tells you for a small fee you can participate in humiliation of criminals in their cells. “ the humiliation fund has been a huge boon to the town and actually has been responsible for the almost lack of crime in town. It seems people in general fear being humiliated more than prison,” he says with a chuckle. “ Please enjoy your time here and may you have a blessed and successful adventure season”
(I wonder if Chankla would ever be imprisoned for stealing something lol)
Chankla wondered who was down in the jail cell, not long ago he had a mid-level bounty due to stealing off merchants to survive, but no one remembered that right? He would look up at the mayor and hold out 8 gold pieces. "How much do i owe ya?" This voice that came out seemed to be from an orc, only the kenku's beak could be seen due to a hood over his face, he typically wore this whenever he was out in public, it was a force of habit, only his beak showed.
it felt nice for once to visit a town not expecting to rob it blind.
(Tell me btw if theres any wanted posters for chankla, they would potentially still be relevant)
Mayor Dreamleaf will take 1gp from your hand and hand you a small basket of rotting fruit to throw at the prisoners. Salt Peet will laugh and buy himself a basket of humiliation as well. Taking a quick look at the board while the Mayor escorts you into the holding area, you see a long faded posting that could have possibly been for you, but both the image and writing are faded beyond recognition.
In the holding cells, there are 3 prisoners currently. Each has their hands bound in front of them and a wooden sign with the crime written upon it hanging from a heavy chain around their neck. Prisoner 1-human male crime of unjustified assault on a neighbor. Prisoner 2- Dwarf male, crime of fraud/scam business dealings. Prisoner 3- female half-elf, crime murder.
pick a prisoner and roll to hit ( thrown) with advantage
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
He would grab the bin from the mayor as he would look towards the dwarf male, they where similar size, Chankla was just slightly taller. "Look at me you swine." He spoke in the same barbaric voice he made at the pottery shop.
*he would chuck the apple with dexterity towards the prisoners face.*

Salt Peet lets out a hearty laugh as the rotten apple splatters across the scheming dwarve’s face. “ Good one friend” he says as he does eenie, meanie, miney, mo…to decide who he throws his at. 4
Peet will Shout, “ take dis you scurvy, hangin boob of a dog fart!” And hurls his fruit. His splatters off one of the cell bars, only a few fragments and drops hit the human neighbor assaulter. Peet doesn’t seem to care he missed, he is just having a good time.
After emptying your baskets on the criminals, you take a more serious look at the job board. Here are the standout postings.
1) the Black Smith- needs some ore recovered from the southern hills mine. 200gp reward for every 4 crates recovered.
2) O’Marley farmstead- goblin pest control. 100gp to stop the thieving goblin gang.
3) knockon Wood Library- mapping of the cave on Mt Abernath, in the Eastern range. 500 gp and a name plaque on wall of hero’s.
4) Morks Merchantile- lost shipment. 50gp for info only, 100-500gp for recovery of the materials. Was due to return via the west road.
The dwarf scowls at you and Peet and tries to say something back, but is unable to make a sound. It appears his voice is magically gagged. The woman has vicious, mean look on her face..you can feel the hatred and violence in her. The human looks remorseful and accepting of his punishment, keeping his eyes downward.
I would read out each of the posts before taking the note for O'Marley, the job was to clear a small goblin mob, he would hold up the sheet to you. "Wanna do this one?" Chankla seemed confident about his abilities and knew he could get the job done.
As Chankla gave one last look at the prisoners he would, decide to just hand one of the apples towards the human prisoner, he made sure no one was watching, he knew prisoners had hard times in prison even if they where in the wrong, he wouldnt say anything but look at the human for a few more seconds, he didn't have many interactions with this species.
Salt Peet says, “ yes, goblins is very trouble makers. We can slap them around a bit and helps the farmers. It is almost times for the puppets.”
The human prisoner gives you a nod and small bit of smile for the kindness. The Mayor seems to have noticed, but didnt say anything or make any attempt to prevent your gift. He stamps your job sheet and wishes you both good luck on solving the issue.
As you and Peet make it back to the in , you are greeted by both the Dragonborn bouncers. Both are standing relaxed but keenly observing everyone entering. They say, “ welcome back gentlemen, enjoy the show”
the main hall is filling up quickly and the bar maids are busy bringing out the roasted boar dinner and drinks. You can see the stage is set with oil lights and sparkly red curtains. From the roof hangs dozens of marionettes of different characters and monsters. Each expertly hand carved by Master Whittlefinger. The sign by the stage bears the the title of tonights show “ the Epic of Zargaz the Bold: Act 1”
You and Peet are given a table near the Front, Juggut himself guides you to your seat. “ Enjoy the show and the feast you provided for” he says excitedly, clearly he loves his work.
Chankla would stay standing as he told you he would get some snacks for the two, he would head out of the theater and two the bar, he would be returning with 2 drinks, one being milk for himself, he would also get a platter of buttered biscuits all for a gold coin.
The barmaids finish placing the plates of food at everyone’s tables and the window shutters and doors are closed, cutting off the lighting down to the warm, dim light of the oil lamps reflecting off the stage curtains. Juggut steps out and announces “ Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Flatulent Marionette presents ‘ Zargazz vs the Harpy’ “ he pauses a moment as the crowds erupts in whistles, clapping and yells of applause before continuing. “ with us tonight we have a very special guest, a bard of great fame! Give a warm welcome to Burgle, the Bugbear Bard!!!”
a large, gruff looking Bugbear comes out of the shadows, lute in hand and kit up by some magic source. He takes a bow as the crowd erupts even louder than before. Salt Peets gets up on the table, clapping excitedly and pulls out a hand held device with a string on one end. He quickly yanks the cord producing a short burst of firework and strings and a nice boom.
” me loves Burgle, the bests bard ever! “ he says, overcome with excitement.
Juggut will continue, “ Mr Burgle has volunteered his services to narrate our story this night, prepare to be enthralled..” Juggut heads behind the curtain and Burgle takes a seat and as the crowd settles down he begins gently strumming the lute as the light around him fades to darkness.
This is the tale, of Zargaz the Bold
a tale like it, has never been told…
The dulcet tones of the lute create a mystical sound as the red curtains draw back, revealing a dark stage, then a spotlight lights up the center of the stage, revealing a nice hand painted background of cutouts or trees, reminds you of the wonderous woods to just recently been in.
There is a flash and some smoke and the puppet of Zargaz appears center stage, to cheers from the audience. A few seconds later, a puppet of a knight, and one of what appears to be a ranger lowers down to the stage as well.
Chankla would lean into his seat, he was intrigued in the story already, he had never seen a bard at work or a puppet, he watched intently as the story went on, he would be munching on a biscuit.
Juggut masterfully manipulates the puppets to make them move through the forest. The forest scene seems to cycle vis some sort of mechanism which you can faintly hear, giving the impression the puppets are traveling. Suddenly, the forest stops and the gentle music of the lute changes to a low toned hum creating a sort of tension, and attendant in black places red colored glass over the oil lamps, bathing the scene is a reddish, sinister light.
Three giant spider puppets dropped in to scene, you can hear gasps from some women in crowd in surprise , and can see some fellow adventurers giving that knowing nod to each other. Few adventurers go into the wonderous wood without running into a giant spider or three.
the Action is chunky but amazing. Considering only one man is operating the puppets, and the narration and music coalesced into an effective and riveting performance. The knight strikes down one spider and the ranger another…then the hero’s hands light up like sparklers and poof! The spiders disappeared from the stage in light and smoke. The red glass is remove and regular light is restored as the puppet party begins traveling through the woods.
the bard slows his playing and announces “ it is time for a brief intermission, refill your cups and prepare yourselves for further amazement in 5 minutes or so..”
the curtains on the stage quickly drawn and the windows unshuttered allowing the early evening light to brighten the hall. The people begin talking about the parts they liked best, and how scary those spiders looked.
Chankla seemed ro have a thing for the show, it was so amazing! He was mesermized by the puppets and the action. "Wow!" He would exclaim in the voice of a child he heard at the market that day, he would hold out his feathered arm towards your cup wondering if you wanted a refill on drinks and snacks, Chankla had finished eatIng all of the biscuits.
Salt peet will say, “ i gots the nexts round of drinks. Show is so mazing…is not Burgle the greatest bard? Mr Whittlefinger is best Puppet master..”
He will pull out a piece of parchment and a crude pencil and scribble some notes before retrieving more drinks and some thing called “ popped corn”in a bowl. “ Trys this friend Chankla, the barman says this is the newest thing, even has butters on it” he tells you as he sets the bowl and the drinks.
Soon the shutters are again closed, lights dimmed and the noise settles down as the bard retakes his place. The lute begins to sing a traveling tune for a moment before settling into that magical, softer tune that represents the forest. The stage curtains again open up, the scenery is a fanciful clearing in the woods, with a campfire and the party a roasting a rabbit on a spit.
The brave heros sit around yon fire
A tasty rabbit, strung from a wire
from behind , goblins crept in the night
They jumped the fellows, starting the fight!
Several goblin puppets dropped into the scene and cover the the knight and Ranger in nets. The goblins drag the two off stage and Zargaz the puppet waves his hands and makes like casting a spell. Suddenly a flash of light, the entire room fills with thick, green smoke that blocks out all light. Nobody can see an inch in front of their face. A loud, devious voice booms with mania laughter. The voice is not from the bard and seems to be coming from everywhere at once. You hear the voice of Master Juggut in the background yelling,
“ ho now, what is the meaning of this? Ferak, Bashir! “ Juggut calls for the bouncers aid.
“ yes, wes have times before show”
Peet will hold his hands like a clock, and then move them to indicate a bout an hours movement.
