"I-I don't know, nobody knows anything about him! I've had nothing to work off of other than rumors, and the rest of my party is acting like it's so easy to just track someone who can just disappear into thin air!" She takes a second to calm down before turning to address Dorrn. "I... I don't know. His abilities are a mystery, and it's almost like he just becomes a different person altogether."

Gromedark puts away his shortsword and approaches a little closer to Baylee.
"This Veritas Finbask does sound dangerous... killer like the demon king... master disguise... job sounds hard but you not alone now! Gromedark and everyone here want help catch him! You mentioned some leads you had?"
After looking around when he said everyone wanted to help just to visually verify that no one had left or changed their minds about the quest Gromedark waits, leaving a pregnant pause for Baylee to continue with any relevant details.

Baylee nodded. "O-oh, yes! I um... I managed to locate his wearabouts to the nearby town of Saavalot, about a days journey to the west of Regnum Pax, and I can assume he hasn't made a move from there since, but that's about it. I know that his normal appearance is a human with jet black hair, and sharp teeth. He also has a scar on his right eye, and two different colored eyes, one blue, one yellow. Um... what else, what else..." She racked her brain trying to think, then snapped her fingers "Oh, right! I-I'm supposed to bring him in alive, but my employer didn't say why. Aside from that, I don't know much else. ...Sorry."

Primrose was growing a bit suspicious, something just didn't seem right. "And who is this employer of yours and where did you come by the information concerning Veritas Finbask's location and the description of his natural appearance? I mean can you be certain what youve been told is accurate?"The Fairy asked Baylee.
He/Him. I am the DM, you are the player. You make the mistakes and I decide the consequences. Now, with that being said - Are you SURE you want to cast Fireball?
(OOC: I was in the middle of writing this before the last thing happened. I was going to ask to roll persuasion to get her to relax and tell us the full story but maybe I can give Primrose advantage on her roll?)
Dorrn seems very conflicted. He really needs and wants this job but not a lot is adding up for him. Taking a deep breath he walks over and puts his hand on Baylee’s shoulder.
“Baylee Baylee Baylee … we really want to help but it feels like as you talk the more complicated this gets. You were ordered by the King to deal with the more sneaky folks but you have an employer, your party was ordered by the King but now you work alone, Veritas is as scary as the Demon King but you need him alive. You seem in over your head … but now you have support … really good support if I do say so myself. We just need you to relax and be straight with us.”
Thawdaum leans back and lets the rest of the party handle prying the information out of Baylee. As they discuss the job, he puts his hands to his face and runs his fingers across his scars, taking a deep breath as he thinks it all through himself. A magical killer on par with the Demon King from before the era of peace, who's a master of disguise, seemingly able to slip into entirely new identities or into total obscurity if they so wish. And he's human, of course. His mind wanders for a second and he starts to think that what if he was tied to the straw-haired man that killed his family, and even if they look different, Veritus is apparently a master of disguise, so maybe it could have been him? But no, that's a foolish thought. The green-eyed human was nothing more than a cowardly deserter, and it would be wishful thinking to imagine that revenge would fall so easily into Thawdaum's hands. Besides, even if he and Veritus were one in the same, Baylee needs him alive, and there's not a chance in hell that Thawdaum would let him out of their next encounter with a recognisable corpse, let alone living. All he needs to worry about now is that he's in Saavalot, and has black hair, sharp teeth, mismatched eyes and a scar. It's a distinct enough description to allow for the party to spot him easily if he's out and about, and he sees no point in doubting the source at the moment; even if it's false, it's better than nothing.
Rowe nudges Thawdaum and whispers over to them while the others talk to the Jerbeen. "If this thing is a master of disguise, we need to keep an eye on all of us here, any one of us could be him."
"How long ago you hear Veritas was seen within Saavalot?"
Gromedark shifts from standing by leaning more on one foot to now leaning more on the other. Glancing around the group at most everyone else he will ask:
"Maybe not waste any more time and start travel for Saavalot now?"

After calming down a bit she looks up at you all again and continues, "V-veritas used to be part of our party, b-but he... h-he..." And its at this point where she bursts into tears.

Dorrn tries to hide his excitement that his and Primrose good cop bad cop worked so well. Dorrn is done trying to coax anything out of Baylee but will try to comfort her with simple platitudes and provide a shoulder to cry on.
"Stop crying Baylee, Gromedark will help try catch Veritas!"
Gromedark stands patiently waiting for everyone to stop brow-beating Baylee and see if they will also agree to help.

Thawdaum sighs. Now he's aware that Baylee used to know Veritas personally and that she was even a part of the Hero's Party, things make a lot more sense. He leans forward off the wall he had reclined himself against, and nods to Gromedark, 'Agreed, we should be going now.' He leans down as far as he can to Baylee's level, but still ends up looking down at her, locking eyes and telling her firmly, 'We promise that we're going to set this right.' He doesn't have many more words of comfort to give, and instead just simply holds eye contact for a moment before getting back up, addressing the party as he says 'Prepare yourself for the first quest seen since the Era of Peace. I do not know how long it will last, or the level of jeopardy at hand, but I assure you, I will fight until the bitter end, and I hope that I can rely on yourselves to do the same. Now, let us head out to Saavalot. We don't know how long our quarry may linger there.'
Baylee looks up, surprised at the party's reception of her information. She expected her identity to be a bigger deal, but these adventurers didn't seem to care. She smiled to herself and took a deep breath. "There's something else you should know. When I said Veritas was someone one particular with the demon king, that wasn't the whole story. ...I know how stupid this sounds, but Veritas... he IS the demon king. We didn't find out until he got the demon king's castle, but he'd been acting as the demon king for years. The appearance I explained to you is what he looked like while I adventure with him, but even now I'm hesitant to believe that's who he really is. I'm sorry for keeping this information from you all, when you're clearly ready to put your lives on the line, so if you need to know nayhting I'll try my best to answer. No more half truths."

Dorrn’s brain is broken. The amount of questions he has started exponentially growing the moment they arrived. His trust of the kingdom has never been high but at this point it is rock bottom. Feeling like staying here for an hour asking questions would not be productive, Dorrn shakes his head and takes a deep breath.
“Okay, I agree that we should move fast and finish this job. I can always ask more questions after we are finished. Will you be waiting here for our return, Baylee?”
Baylee nodded. "It's not like I have anywhere else to go."
