As they continue walking and after about half an hour of walking Thurston says to Bründir.
"Bründir my friend. It seems that I can't get a good hold on that stripe of the left shoulder on my new armor. Would you please help me out?!" he says stopping " Please friends continue! we will catch up with you im just a moment!!"
When the wagon is a away he turns to the dwarf, suddenly serious and speaking in whispers.
"Ok, listen, I lied before because I didn't want to alarm everybody, but I actually felt that Jex is infected by the disease. It's just a very faint and small infection, so I do not think that he worries too much, but we must keep an eye on him. I tried to heal him using Thor's blessings, and the infection receeded a little bit, but it's not gone. Perhaps a more potent divine magic, like your cleric friends seems to have, could help him better. But what worries me is that we maybe need to go back to the elven city for them cure him with the basilisk blood And that could take much time to help the miners.. "he takes a breath " here's my plan. Talk to your friend, ask him to cast his magic on Jex, posiibly without him noticing, and then I will ask Thor again to revel me if he is infected or not. If he can cure him then that's it. If not, we need to talk with the Lady using that bag to see how we can use the blood to heal him."
As Hurrig sits down, Vark looks suddenly uncomfortable and stands up, moving to a tree a few feet away before turning back to talk to Hurrig. "Oh u-uhm I'm sorry to hear that. Well you missed most of the interaction with the elves. They're a very nice people, I wouldn't mind staying there for awhile once we're done... but uhm, s-so yes you missed the attacks against the bandit camp. We thought... we thought we were just clearing out some pillagers but... after a skirmish and an ambush of their raiding party, we realized they were tainted by some... demonic influence. Do you know of the Morrigan? We believe maybe they were worshipping her or-or invoking her power or binding... something. When we got to the camp and fought our way inside, we found a dragonborn woman surrounded by these cultists a-and they were doing this ritual and there was red smoke and demon spirits and... the elf we were sent to rescue was already dead... A-at some point we lost Archie, that talkative gnome. But uhm... well we managed to defeat the cultists. But... the dragonborn leading everything escaped. So uhh then we left, we went back to Hyarantar, bringing the corpse of their fallen. Which must have been a mistake because as soon as we got there, the dead elf rose! He attacked us and one of the guards. And then the-the guard turned! And a bunch of other elves were infected by this taint. S-something to do with the binding ritual they were doing in that camp.... I'm still trying to figure it out. But... that's why we have to go get the basilisk blood. We brought the plague into their village, and their wizard said he can fashion a cure from the blood s-so... we owe it to them." He looks almost out of breath after recounting the tale.
“Well shit, you lot been busy” Hurrig let’s out a belly laugh. “Looks like ya made a few more friends on ya way too! Who’s that human fellow... not too fond of humans in me past. Never done right by me.”

Once the group reaches their turn off point at the foothills, the wagon begins it's journey north towards the basilisk liar. It is a good five hour northward before the sun begins to sink and the group makes their decision to camp for the night. They find a nice, quiet spot in the woods where they feel is comfortable and defensible. Valaith takes the time to inspect Dorno's armor up close and smiles at its craftsmanship. "Dorno! That is amazing!" She punches it a few times to test its strength with a laugh and rub of her stinging knuckles. "That's nearly as strong as mine own!"
She gets her spot ready near the fire, her hammer right next to her and her armor wrapped in a protective cloth beneath her backpack that she uses almost as a pillow. "We should definitely keep a watch out here in the wilds." Valaith takes this time to approach Hurrig and ask about the events back in Sheercleft. "Did something happen to provoke these goblins, you think? Or do you think they are just raiding?"
"I will take a watch with Jex Storyteller." says Thurston " then we can talk about Thor and his deeds without boring you all. But you should listen and learn them! hehehe. Here Maese Hurrig" he offers the dwarf a mug of mead from the barrel "drink up with me. Just one horn my friend. Once we have freed the elves of the curse and the mines of the goblins we could test our mettle and see who goes first under the table. First things comes first as my grandfather used to say but " he winks to the dwarf " nobody said that one should be thirsty doing them!"
The going is slow once the wagon leaves the road. It runs rough shod over roots and other brush and must often follow a twisting path around areas where the trees grow too close to one another. The party makes it about half way from the road to the hills before night falls and they set up camp for the night. Thanks to the tents Bründir purchased for the group this is a rather more comfortable affair than it has been to date.
A watch order of Hurrig, Vark, Bründir and Jex is agreed on, as they can see better in the darkness than Valaith, Thurston or Dorno.
Around an hour after everyone has settled down to sleep, Hurrig hears snarling and yelping in the distance through the forest.
(OOC - RAW in 5e a long rest is a period of extended downtime, at least 8 hours long, during which a character sleeps or performs light activity: reading, talking, eating, or standing watch for no more than 2 hours. As such, while the watch periods are 2 hours, anybody who wishes to keep somebody company on their watch, such as Thurston and Jex, may do so.)
Hurrig turns to Val, "No. Not that I know, At least. It seems almost too intense and sudden to be something just random."
At night, Hurrig will set up his sleeping bag and sit back with his hammer in his hands. When he heears the growls, he quietly looks around, prods Val quietly "Val... get up... I hear something growling."

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thurston rolls over and, still half asleep, stumbles against the tent, for he has forgotten that they had tents now. He ends with his butt in the floor, inside the tent and curses in his language. He opens his eyes, manages to grab his hammer and steps outside the tent.
Val's eyes pop open as Hurrig rouses her. "What is it---" The roar cuts off any further questions she has and immediately jumps to her feet, grabbing her hammer as she does. She rushes towards the edge of the camp closest to the bestial roar. "On your feet everyone! Foes!" Valaith shouts at the top of her lungs and stands between the sound of approaching danger and her companions in a wide-stance and hammer before her.
Jex hears the growls from his state of light sleep, he is out of bed in a flash, hood up on his new cloak he is disappearing into the edge of the camp before anyone else even gets to their feet, looking to identify the threat. The shifting patterns on his cloak make him completely invisibly to the eye, even the keenest of sight would not pick out his movements against the landscape.
Dorno's large feet hang out of his tent while he sleeps and at Val's cry the tall firbolg sits up quickly and fights to free his head from the fabric making up the roof and door of the tent. Standing and fumbling for his gear the sleepy giant says "what's wrong, big lady?"
Bründir snores contentedly, dreaming of glory and battles and snuggled to his sheathed blade and shield. At Val's shout, he huffs and rolls over, still barely awake and aware of the impending danger.
