"I am still a little bit soar due to all that forging yesterday " says Thurston " Comfortable it is!" he says with a wink to Val "sorry pal " he says to Jex " one canot win always"
Jex shrugs. "I don't see this as a loss, just a pair of good options." He grins. "Happy to go with Val's spot, not often she finds one so good and it would be a shame to waste it."
As the party heads to Valaith's camping spot, Aiden raises his arm across Thurston's chest. "Can I speak with you?" he says in Norscan. The other man nods, and they hang back, keeping the rest of the party in sight while remaining out of earshot.
"So I spoke to my mother," Aiden says, continuing in Norscan. "And I mentioned I was travelling with you. She seemed to think that was not a good idea."
Thurston sees the concerned look in Aiden’s face and follows him a little bit worried. Then he listen to him and his face adopts a somber expression.
“I see.” He says and looks at Aiden’s eyes for a moment too long. “I always liked you Aiden” he replies in Norscan. “The other kids used to say that you were weak, but I saw you face bullies twice your side even with a bleeding limp. You weren’t weak and I broke a couple of noses back in the day to avoid more of those coming to you. “ he makes a pause “ I wouldn’t put you in danger, not deliberately. I would say that you are safe enough traveling with me, as long as we keep ourselves away from our homeland. If you ever go back I would advise you to avoid any mention of our time together, at least if you want to avoid a lot of questioning of my whereabouts. I see that you want to ask me why. Do you want the short or the long version?”
Aiden nods at the matter-of-fact admission from the paladin. He can't help the feeling of intense confusion and strangeness that comes over him as Thurston asks him if he wants the short or the long version. In the end, he just shakes his head. "You were the golden boy of Eikthyrnir. Whatever saga ends with Thurston Barnatson on the run from his own people, I want to hear the whole tale."

And that was part of the problem." he turns serious again " I must confess that I've missed talking and hearing our language, I even tought I wouldn't be able to use it again..." he hesitates " You must forgive me I always considered you one of our own, despite... the way you came to us. Please forgive me if by assuming that I offend you, that's not my intent. I know that you left Eikthymir to search for your true parents, and if our current missions allows I will help you of course. " after that he retakes the topic " Tell me Aiden. Would you condemn a woman you don't know to live away from her home, family and friends, tied to a man that she hasn't see in her life just because it is convenient?"
Aiden shakes his head. "I've no illusions about who I am," he says. "Sure, I was born in Quenlan. But I'm a Norscan. The blood of Ash and Elm courses through my veins, and the All-Father and Thor guide me."
He pauses for a moment, considering the question. "Surely this woman can choose her path for herself. No one should be condemned to a fate they haven't chosen."

"Did you meet this Aslaug? And she did not want to marry you? I understand wanting to give her a choice, but you may have been happy together." He shrugs his shoulders and rolls the stiffness out of his neck. "Do not misunderstand, I don't envy the position you were in."

"Oh we met, and we were able to talk a little bit. Don't misunderstand me, she is an astonishing woman, and would have bear my child for sure. But she was as lost and umconfortable as I was. It was real akward. She wouild have carry on her duty" he smiles. "As I was... until the night before our marriage. When I was on my way to leave my offer at Odin's Stone, a venison I had hunted that same day I... " he looks Aiden in the eye and the cleric can see he is not joking "I had a vision. Odin came and told me to leave."
"Odin told you to..." Aiden searches Thurston's face and sees the truth of his statement. He sees the guilt and shame that the paladin is harboring. He screws up his face, a feeling of consternation welling up inside him. "This...this isn't right. Why would...you shouldn't have had to leave. You shouldn't be hunted by your own people. We have...we have traditions for this sort of thing."
Aiden gets up from the place he had been sitting and begins to pace. "This is stupid. We should return to Eikthyrnir. We will tell your story, and if they choose not to believe it, we will make the square of stones and that will decide it. You shouldn't have to run from your people."
Norscans weren't supposed to hold grudges like this. He had encountered much of this kind of honor-bound foolishness since returning to Breanne, but Norscans, in his mind, had always been different.
"I appreciate your concern Aiden. "he stands and puts a hand into Aiden's shoulder "My father knows. I went to him that very night. He didn't like it, but the honor of the clans were compromised. In order to prevent a war he had to banish me, and hunt me down. I.. can bear it, but I cannot come back home. I was determined to create a new life here. Aiden nods as Thurston reminds him of his honor, the paladin's hand weighing heavily on his shoulder as a reminder. "You're right," he says. "Honor demands that I bring you back home."
He takes a step back and sinks to the ground, leaning against one of the trees at the edge of camp. He turns his from Thurston to the rest of the camp. "But honor has no time constraints," he says with a short laugh. "Let's make a deal, Thurston. I will not bring you back until we uncover this Matthew business, and you will help me find my parents -- my birth parents."
It is clear from Aiden's tone that he doesn't believe that bringing Thurston back to Eikthyrnir will be much of a problem.

" You got yourself a deal friend." he replies "That will give us enough time to discuss how do you pretend to aprehend me. Not drinking me below the table, nobody would ever believe that... " he smiles back to Aiden while offering him his arm for him to shake.
"You're a good man Aiden Olrikson."
With that he returns to the others and help them prepare the camp.
As they come to the spot that Val had discovered, Vark kneels down in the center of the space and pulls out the runestone. He places his fingers on the crystalline surface and his eyes light up red as he begins to interface with the device. For ten minutes he is lost in the codex as the others set up camp around him. Finally, with no apparent warning, a pulse of red light emits from the cube. It extends from every face of the geometric relic out to a similarly cubic shape about twenty feet on each side. When the light reaches this limit it dissipates, leaving a faint afterimage like a spectral red cage that fades completely over the next few seconds.
As the group sets up camp, Val wanders over to Thurston as he is removing his armor and setting it aside. “Thurston, I- can I ask you a question? Could I burrow your armor tonight to try it on? I have seen how it saves you and while I love my elven armor, yours is very strong. I wish to learn to fight in such armor and perhaps seek out the aid of the elves to make a suit like it for… me. But I need to practice and see if such things are for me. My people do not wear such things often as it is not good for our way of life, but my people are gone. I am the last and I feel honorbound to stay alive and tell their stories. I think such armor might help do just that.” She looks visibly uncomfortable making the request, but maintains eye contact with Thurston as she speaks.
“But of course!” Replies Thurston with a smile. “I’ve been studying the elves techniques of smithing. I will go with you and if you allow me, I’ll put that tools I gained to good use to create you a fine piece of armor” he seems glad to be telling her that, as if it was his plan all along and he can finally reveal II to her. “In the meantime “ he says “ here try this out “ he throws a bracer to her “and allow me to help getting into this” he hits the chest plate with his knuckles “and I will try to teach you how to move while wearing it, it took me some time to get used to it but is lighter than the ones I used to wear. You’ll get it in no time! Together we will find a way to combine your fighting style with this metal...”
He approaches her with confidence but she can see the blush in his cheeks and the subtle tremble of his hands while helping her donning the armor.
Val grins as Thurston begins explaining his plan to craft her a suit of wonderful armor similar to his. "I would cherish such armor dearly, Thurston." She smiles as he begins to help her into his armor. She notices the blushing and the tremble, but pretends to not notice such things as she comments idly while he works. "Would you be able to use the breastplate I have already from the elves? It is the only thing I have that is my own and I do not wish to see it gone." She feels a warmth radiating from her belly into her legs as Thurston's hands brush against her ribs and she suddenly finds it very difficult to concentrate as a heaviness seems to overcome her, but she quickly finds a distraction. "Come, tell me about this armor you would craft for me! I wish to see what you think about Lady Rimehand!" She strikes a powerful pose, whipping her hair about and doing her best impression of Thurston.
"That would be possible yes " replies Thurston to Val's answer about her actual breastplate he looks at her and smirks "I would have to... measure you... "
When she makes her impression Thurston feels the warmth in his face and some dryness in his mouth.
" Hardly any piece of metal would be worth of Lady Rimehand"he laughs" but It will be resilient, hard as steel, but thanks to the mithril qualities it will be light and will allow you to move more freely than others. " he approaches to her " It will protect some vital areas " he touches her hips, just with two fingers at the top of her hipbone and moves them a little it up sneaking them below her tunic. " We don't want this belly to have any grievous wound again, do we? Just one scar is enough "he says and looks into her eyes " It's a hot scar though"he whispers following it with one finger as the other hand goes around her back to the near the kidneys. "It will cover this part too " he says using his whole hand to push her over him. "But... you know... even with such a powerful armor covering your body... "she could feel the heat of his body " I recommend you not to forget one thing... an enemy could always do something that would me more dangerous if you wear a heavy armor... "he pushes her even closer to him. He passes his tongue over his lips, trying to wet them. "He could do... "They look to each other, their bodies touching in many parts. He then smiles. "THIS!"he then flips her over his hip and throw her to the grass. The movement makes him fall over her partially immobilizing her, laughing.
