"Acharnost," Aiden says, quietly correcting both Thurston and the newcomer. "I am Aiden Olrikson." He dismounts and leads his horse to a patch of grass behind the tiefling's camp, then returns to the fire. "This is Valaith, Bründir, and Vark." He gestures to those that have not introduced themselves. "Where do you come from, and what is your destination?"

Chronicles of Arden: Sheercleft - Aiden Olrikson | Human | Tempest Domain Cleric of Thor
Vark follows Aiden’s lead, noticing a second smaller mote of starlight on Nikolai’s person as they angle around the campsite. He stalls as he dismounts Toivoa and gathers his belongings. “Shhh, good girl. You hungry, hmm?” he mutters softly into her mane. Wind whips around him as he continues speaking in a hushed tone. “Aiden, this guy has powerful magic. Celestial.” The message is carried by the wind into Aiden’s ears before Vark returns to the others and takes a seat near the cleric.
Aiden nods as Vark's words flit into his ear. Sitting around the fire with the newcomer, he dare not respond, but he warily watches their surroundings for any signs of trouble.
Nikolai nods to the others as they are introduced by Aiden. "I am traveling to the Ice Cap Peaks by way of Piotgrad. It has been a very long journey, but I think I am near my destination soon. At least I hope that I am. I am not familiar with these lands as I am my home. What of you? Where do you hail from? You all travel heavily armed for war. Should I be wary of conflict in these lands?"
"Sheercleft is the only place worth going on this road, unless you plan to go spend some time with the dwarves," Aiden says. "This land has seen its fair share of banditry, it's true. I would not wish to travel alone."

The tiefling, Nikolai, nods as he rubs his chin. "That is where I am headed, actually. Sheercleft. Is this where you all are headed as well? Perhaps we could share the roads together!"
Aiden looks questioningly at the rest of the group. He was new, and it was not his place to reveal to an outsider their travel plans -- or their place of residence.

Bründir perks up at mention of his home, but Vark catches his question first. The dwarf resigns himself to enjoying his cheese and bread rations along with his large, ever-handy flask of Elven mead.

Nikolai turns to the young half-orc. "I am called there at the request of my patron. I sense there is something amiss that I am unaware. I would ask that you answer my questions before questioning me further."
Sitting in a log near the fire the bulky Norscan looks at Nicolai, with a warhammer in his hand.
"Yes we are headed to Sheercleft. If you can ride with us will depend on many things. Most important right now is; Would you be able to keep up? We are in a haste and we do not have time to waste. Who is this patron of you? It wouldn't be certain Baron would it? "
Nikolai laughs lightheartedly. "No, my patron is far less worldly than a simple baron, my friend. Their name is Shahar, a being of celestial nature that had made an agreement of a mutual nature. It would seem that I do have my answer about conflict in these lands though. I will have no problems keeping up with you all, that is no way, but my concern is whether I should be prepared to be assailed by nobility if spotted riding with you?"
"Hmmm"replies Thurston " If you ride with us you should be prepared for almost anything. But now we must go back to our home in a haste 'cos a stupid Breaniann Barron wants our city for himself. Be advised we will probably be with a not entirely friendly army at out gates. " Thurston grins " But rest assured that we will be the ones laughing and celebrating at the end."
He stares at Nikolai for a few seconds "So this Shahar of yours thinks something is amiss in Sheercleft. What could it be I wonder..."
It is clear for Nikolai, and all the others, that the big Norscan has something in mind. He is not as subtle as he thinks he is...
“Celestial being?” Vark blurts out, as if he’s been holding his breath until the opportunity to ask about the alien magic source Nikolai carries comes along. “What kind of celestial being is Shahar? What has it told you about Sheercleft?”
Nikolai looks at Vark for a brief moment, taking stock of the young half-orc before shrugging lightly. "Nothing much, honestly. I think I shall know what I am needed for when I arrive. As for Shahar, they are shrouded in mystery, so I cannot tell you much. I think they like their anonymity as I have searched for much information about them for a long time, but have not found much in written record. I was drawn to them after finding a tome in a restricted library and then guided to a group of wandering folk, some of whom also followed the ways of Shahar."
"Why do you people keep trusting and signing pacts, so to speak, with strange, mysterious, even deceiving beings in exchange of power when you could follow one of the Gods, like Thor, and be sure that your powers and soul are true?" he shrugs " I just don't get it."
He produces his canteen and takes a sip of it, offering it towards Nikolai after it.
“He m-means you and me... I also uhm... have a p-patron. And... well, he kinda is a god.” Vark responds to both of them. “But... it’s complicated. It’s not clear what my patron wants and we’re worried that what he wants might be bad. He... doesn’t have the best reputation. Shahar though... Aureanous mentioned them positively... I wonder...”
Vark trails off as he digs into his pocket to produce the red, crystalline relic from within. “Maybe there is some information about Shahar in here.” He takes the runestone in both palms and begins to focus, gazing into its shifting geometry and holding the idea of Shahar in the front of his mind.
The codex flares with a brilliant, bright light as Vark activates it. Not red this time (or at least not entirely), but a shining white beacon that seems to blast right through anyone and anything in its path, until all that remains is a blank and empty void. In this void, Vark sees a floating orb of many intersecting wheels that sparkle like topaz and are covered in eyes. He can feel it speak, but all he hears is a piercing ring that makes his ears begin to bleed.
Moments later the light fades and the vision from the codex ends.
