Jex creeps forwards, watching in shock as the tentacles push the armoured figure back off the ground. He reaches out instinctively to the circlet, spying an opportunity to hit the creature hard as it stands and hopefully keep it from rising fully. The blast hits true, with a shot which would burn a hole through any normal being, but this was no normal being as two more solid shots impact it from the circlet, yet still it rises to it's full height.
Well that's not good.
Jex raises his bow again and hides amongst the rocks, waiting for his next opportunity.
The stalk-like tentacles begin to walk as legs, advancing on Bründir even as fire erupts from an orifice somewhere near their base. The blast chases Rikkazarik up toward Thurston, engulfing the Norscan in flame, while a noxious yellow cloud begins to spread from the appendages, causing everybody nearby to hack and cough on the toxic fumes.
As Val regains control over herself, she immediately turns back towards the battle and pauses a moment as she spots the monstrosity that Marcellus had become; Vark had said something about this. She had a long way to get back and she could already feel her rage starting to diminish. She begins running back towards her friends as quickly as she could, her large form pounding the mountinuous terrain as she draws one of the javelins from her side and hurls it towards Marcellus, but it simply ricochets off his heavy armor. A second javelin, this time mars one of the tentacles holding whatever this abomination was, but nothing serious as she continues her headlong rush back into the fray... the burning shame of her fear pushed to the side for now.
Bründir gave Stonebrow a quick spur forward. The boar lunged, but the multi-limbed monstrosity quickly side-stepped. The mounted Dwarf, however, was growing accustomed to the tandem style of combat. As the boar went low, Bründir swung Dumdrengi high. Runes on his masterwork armour flared to life with the strike. Steel cut the otherworldly flesh, leaving a glowing wound behind.

The flames engulfed Thurston's body but the Norscan didn't stop his charge. Emerging from the inferno with parts of his clothes still burning and the exposed flesh red and with blisters, his eyes sparkling with lightning he raised his hammer and a blue lightning from the sky hit it, sending small sparks all around the paladin. Thurston yells as he finally falls upon the creature that calls himself Marcellus.
The first impact of Rikkazarik hit him in the chest, making a thunderous and metallic sound. He quickly spin and gets another hit, this time at the side of the bulbous head of the alien figure, who staggers a little bit as both lighting and thunder explode upon impact. But Thurston doesn't let him fall. With his free hand he grabs Marcellus by the upper part of his chest plate and immediately the tentacles from his face start to curl over Thurston hand and wrist.
"You think you can threaten my people... "Thurston, far from take away his hand start to grab the tentacles by himself, twisting them as he gets a solid hold " threaten my God... threaten my family?! To that... I SAY NO!!" and then he rips the tentacles away, raising up his hand with two of them tear off from Marcellus face as the blue lighting burns the rest of his face. Thurston stands tall defiant in the middle of the battlefield, the tentacles dying on his bright hand and Rikkazarik in the other.
Sir Marcellus crumples as Thurston tears the broken knight's face asunder with his bare hands. The armoured body clatters on the rocks at the paladin's feet and for a brief moment all is still. An island of peace amidst the chaos of battle.
Then the tentacles begin to wriggle and move once more, grasping desperately at anyone within reach.
"Well struck, bróðir!" Aiden says as Marcellus falls. The cleric watches in horror as the tentacles begin to write again, but quickly shakes himself free and directs the aura around him to begin to immolate the sickly flesh. A sizzling sound rises from the fallen knight's corpse, like fat dripping from a spit to the fire. Aiden lays a hand on Thurston, bestowing pure divine essence into the paladin and reinvigorating him, all the while never taking his eyes off Marcellus.

Chronicles of Arden: Sheercleft - Aiden Olrikson | Human | Tempest Domain Cleric of Thor
Taking the cue from Aiden’s continued assault on the writhing remains of the Star Knight, Vark swoops closer until he is right above their foe’s corpse. He points Pathmaker straight down and unleashes a torrent of crimson flame from its point, scorching the mountain stone and roasting the aberrant flesh. As the flames subside, the infernal runes which Bark cast earlier can be seen glowing for a moment, inflicting more of the warlock’s wrath.
Breathing a sigh of relief as Sir Marcellus finally gives way again under the continued assault, Jex draws his bowstring tight and watches carefully for signs of another resurrection beneath the flames.
Under the sustained assault of the Acharnost, the eldritch remnants of Sir Marcellus slowly wither away until all that remains is a small, black rock.
With their monstrous general bested before their very eyes, the Cambrian infantry break and begin to route, soon followed by the accompanying archers and levies.
Vark waits and watches from the air as their foes flee from the battlefield. The cries of Sheercleft’s forces and allies begin to ring out behind him and in his own show of victory Vark thrusts one hand forwards into the air. One last mighty BOOM rings out above Quenlan Pass. It’s a death knell for Marcellus and a thunderous offering to Thor. It rumbles for a moment after, echoing the equally thunderous cheers that ring below it, and finally Vark descends to join the Acharnost.
“Is everyone okay?” he asks, but already his eyes are glowing in search of any lingering magical threats or surprises left in the monster’s wake. He points out the Star Knight’s sword and armor before something small and black catches his eyes. Curiosity outweighing reason in the moment, Vark leans down.
”What’s this?” he says, before picking up the stone.
Vark's hand closes around the stone and his vision goes black. He sees an unending field of stars lain out in the void before him and feels the inescapable sensation that something vast and alien lurks in the darkness between them.
"Yᴏᴜ ᴀʀᴇ ɴᴏᴛ Mᴀʀᴄᴇʟʟᴜs."
The words echo soundlessly in the sorcerer's mind.
Val comes rushing up to rejoin her companions, a burning shame filling her as they faced this threat without her. Before she can say much, Vark suddenly plucks up the blackened stone and she lets out a curse in Giant. When he drops it and indicates it is dangerous she nods and raises Rook above her hand. “Then let’s be rid of it!”
Jex slips down the bank, allowing loose stones to take him down to his companions. Still untrusting of the spot where the being was slain he advances carefully, blades drawn, mask still covering his face. As the army turns and runs and there own forces breathe and rest, he cautiously looks over the stone. He holds a brief hand up to Val to stay her hand a moment.
“It- it must have been whatever gave Marcellus his powers. Something massive and… alien sitting in the darkness between the stars. It seemed… upset?” The assessment of the entity’s temperament is a stab in the dark, because surely no mortal emotion could ever be used to accurately describe the aberrant presence.
”I’m not sure Rook will be able to put much of a scratch on it,” he says, turning to Val. “It’s powerful, but we should definitely try to destroy it or at least seal it away somewhere. Maybe I could hide it in Aury’s keep.” He points to Marcellus’ armor and weapon, “Those are magic too, probably not dangerous but we should still be careful with them. I can identify them back at camp.”
"Indeed" says Thurston putting a hand into his friend's shoulder "So much unnecessary death. " He doesn't look up, netiher to the rest of the Archanost. He is still looking to the place where the rests of Marcellus turned into a charred mark in the stone, ready to smash and destroy any sign of him.
"But by standing in front of those who dared to bring death and destruction to our home we've prevented much more... and, you must destroy that. Now. Cut the link of their power to our world. Best case scenario the mad wizards could spy on us throught that thing. And I do not believe in best case scenarios anymore..."

Jex looks at the stone and back up at the staff in the half orc's hand. He repeats the gesture a couple of times.
"Anybody else see an obvious way to end one of two problems?" He sighs, taking off the mask. "It's like..."
But as the mask slips from his face a look of horror and grief replaces it as Matteo sees what is left of the battlefield.
"So much unnecessary death." He falls to his knees in a prayer for the fallen, muttering in elven.
