“I could maaaybe do something like that but… probably easier just to message everyone for now.” He glances at Jex, not exactly warily but with a pointed curiosity, unsure of whether or not the masked rogue intends to stick around. Instead of asking though, he pulls out the codex and begins to send messages to the rest of the Acharnost.
Jex glances out of the window at the stalls below as Vark lights up the codex. His mistrustful eyes wander the study. Quick as a flash a dagger is in his hand, propelling out of the window and down at one of the wooden tables below.
The half elf instantly vanished from view in the study.
Landing on the ground he slides under a table and makes a line for the door, rounding the building from sight of the study and hiding in an entrance way, waiting for a sign of Val or Thurston approaching.
Thurston was walking relaxed with just his trousers and a pelt cloak over his shoulders, with his hammer in one hand resting on his right shoulder as he approaches talking with Val.
"... So the Norns yarn the thread of your life and they already know when it is going to be cut, but your decisions mold it and can make to take in any path, reaching out to other threads, crossing them or even cutting them, but at the end we all are just that, threads into the great loom of the universe, we all are part of Yggdrassil... even the aesir... So no need to worry about when or how your life is going to end but to make it one worth of the attention of the... wait... have you seen something coming out that window? nah just a gust of wind I guess.. "
Jex calls out in a raised whisper and steps from the doorway, beckoning Val and Thurston over.
"I think it's happening. Brundir and Vark captured Matteo, forced the mask onto his face and held me grappled and under a spell. I escaped through the window, but I fear they want to control me."
"Odin's beard Jex! You nearly sent me to Hel there" he jokes as he approaches then listen to his friend words.
"Wait wait what? Relax my friend I am so glad to have you back, I've missed you but I must say I am worry about you, we all are. At first I thought you were playing us with all that Matteo nonsense, then I felt it was something different... Why don't you tell us what's happening? Who is this Matteo and when it comes out? It is something related to your mask? what's that nonsense about Brundir and Vark? "
"There's no time, Matteo and I split apart on the road, Vark thinks it's to do with the mask, I think the mask just complicated things. Vark and Brundir are trying to decide which of us should survive or if undoing the split is better. They tried to hold us hostage to make the decision for us."
"Then I will help you regain it my friend... You know I mistrust witchery... and that mask of you... sounds a lot like something Loki himself would have created... my point is... perhaps you have to make a choice and loose the mask in order to regain the control of your body and your conscience. I do not know a thing about this but I just want you to give a thought to it if that is necessary. " he looks at his friend and adds
"For what is worth I can tell you that without you the Archanost are a out of balance... I can't put it to words but... we need you Jex. We really do, and not only for your combat skills, you are our friend and your opinion is well received and necessary in our little community. And about your conscience... you are good at what you do Jex, but what you do isn't very nice. That's the curse of the warriors like us. In order to save lifes we take the lifes of others. We do not get to choose who lives or dies in a fight, that is up to the Aesir and the Norns " he winks at Val "but we have every right to fight to prove them we are the ones worthy of keep breathing haha! but I am missing the point. The point Jex is that we all have to live with the fact that, in order to protect others sometimes we have to take other' life... and sometimes is hard. "he hesitates " except for that thing Marcellus was or the Mabinogi, but that's not the case "he disregad his own thoughts with his hand "what we do is hard on us, and that you have second thoughts on that only makes you a better person, means that you still have a soul, that you still have a heart " he touches Jex's chest with his fist "You are pretty damn good at it my friend and I've seen you delivering blows to end the thing fast and clean, when you could have done it much much worse. That speak high of you... I am proud of calling you a friend and I am sure that together we can fix this. Now... come with me " he opens his hand offering it to Jex "and go back with those two and put some sense inside their skulls... what were they thinking about? Forcing you to do what??"
"Forcing whom to do what?" Aiden asks as he approaches Thurston and Val. He spies the other figure there, with the mask on, half-hiding. "Ah...hello Jex," he says. "Must be what Vark's message was about. Thurston's probably right, though I did not hear all of what he said. Let's go. We can figure it out together, and if we cannot, then barring the mask dropping a hoard of shadows on us again, it returns to you, as does your right to control it."

"Well I for one have found the voice of my conscience unbearable. I don't know how you all put up with his self righteous whining. Frankly, I'm shocked you haven't done away with him already. Now please do try not to forget I'm here once we get upstairs, and what I told you. Be on the lookout."
Jex drops back into the shadows as they climb, not wanting to be seen as he lurks just outside the study.
Val listens quietly, letting Thurston and Aiden take the lead here. Curses were not her forte, she was a warrior, not a shaman. She knew nothing about the oddity of Jex and Matteo, nor anything about the strange mask. She thought back to the spirit of Rook trapped in her hammer and pauses. She would speak more on this later, for now... "Yes, let's get to the bottom of this. You cannot afford to be split at a time like this. We need to be united. The people of Sheercleft cannot see us bickering like this." She doesn't wait for the others and plows forward, her heavy foot falls a clear indicated of her irritation and frustration.
Thurston smirks at the mention of how much Jex dislikes his own conscience.
"Well Jex... it's because we want you back I haven't smacked him down... yet... if you wake up with less teeth and more bruises do not blame me... " he winks to the half-elf before he dissapeares again in the shadows.
"Jex? I didn't see him... or did you meant Mattheo? By the way Aiden you should look at that, or even you"he says to Vark "I felt nothing special on that Mattheo guy but it is obvious that something's wong with Jex, and I am worried about him. I could understand a change of his ways but... the change of personality and name? Something's not right... and now that we have dealt with the inmmediate threat to Sheercleft we should look into that and help our friend... anyway, what do you need us for friends?"
“Oh, good morning, uhm…” Vark frowns as the barrage of information conflicts with the fog that has suddenly filled his mind. “Yes actually, I called everyone here because of Matteo. Bründir brought him over a little bit ago, he was saying he wanted us to destroy the mask hoping that it would destroy Jex along with it. But… well we thought that we should hear Jex’s side of the story even though Matteo didn’t wanna let us so we uhm… we kinda forced the mask onto his face to let Jex out. But then… I don’t really remember what happened after that. You said you saw Jex outside? Maybe… oh of course, it’s the mask. It makes people forget about the wearer. Is Jex alright? Is he… himself? The way Matteo talked about him I was worried somehow Jex really had become dangerous and violent as part of the split.”
Brundir grumbles over the realization that he's been duped, "Where's the bloody headcase now? Damnit, it seems like he's got a problem here but neither side of'im wants any part of it! Look, we all met Jex when Jex was Jex, right? Then one day, he leaves on a trip an' Matteo comes back sayin' Jex's gone an' somethin' bad happened. Then we see Jex comes back when he puts that mask on. Seems strange, right? Matteo knows Jex, Jex knows Matteo, but they're two sides of a coin that wants t'be two different coins. We think there's somethin' with that mask that's made the split in'em. At least, that's what I think we're thinkin', right, Vark?"

That is what I was thinking but,” Vark looks stricken suddenly as the train of thought he was moving along gets lost as it runs into his absent memories of the conversation with Jex. “Ahhh,” he says, clenching his eyes and pressing fingers into his temples as he feels the verge of a headache coming on. “I really feel like he should be here for this conversation. You said he’s just outside?”
Vark’s eyes glow faintly blue as he summons a breeze to carry his words to Jex’s ears, “Jex, can you come join us? Need you to weigh in on this mask situation.”
"The mask makes people forget?" Aiden asks. "Strange." He scratches his chin. He eyes Thurston, slightly amused that the man didn't remember that Aiden had interrupted him and Valaith speaking with Jex when he first arrived. "Yes, Jex is right outside. But -- and I say this knowing that you all have more history with him than I do -- attempting to force him to do anything regarding this mask will erode what trust he has left. Destroying the mask, or destroying one of his two halves, cannot be the answer. They need each other. They need to be made whole again."
