"I'm good at what I do, but no dragonborn is worth dying for," he replies with venom on his tongue and spits on the grass, apparently having found his courage.
"I could be useful to you. What is it you want here?"
"We... we want to end it. Whatever it is they're doing. If there's any way you could help us get into the camp, or any information you have on the sisters... it'd help. You could help... help make up for your wrongs." Vark says in a calm tone tinged with weariness.
Dorno morphs out of cougar form and is left kneeling next to their captive. "Dragonborn? Don't worry tiny one. I was just playing. I won't bite you or kill you." He pauses for a second before adding "they might, though." He waves his hand towards Thurston and the rest. "They crushed a bad man's head!" At that he shrugs and sits back five feet away in the grass, listening but also plucking off anything useful from the flora there and otherwise simply weaving strands of grass together into some sort of bracelet or belt shape with surprisingly dextrous fingers for their size and width.
"If I don't get back, they'll get suspicious, put more men on the walls. We already had one raiding party get beaten recently, only one guy came back. Tensions are starting to run high."
He pauses.
"...that was you lot, wasn't it?"
Dorno's comments cause him to once more eye Thurston's hammer fearfully.
"Good t'know ye aren't th' brainless sort." Bründir settles back a bit, "We did'em in, yeah. Had a nice ambush ready fer us, but weren't plannin' on an armed escort. Anyway, we need a distraction; something t'make that place turn all eyes one way. If as many as ye say are loyal t'yer leaders, then we can'ot promise much fer hostage-takin'."

“This little guy is right “ says the paladin “ If he doesn’t come back they will reinforce their guard and... wait a minute there “ he says turning back to the halfling “A Dragonborn you said? And is there an elf prisioner in there?”
"Aye," the halfling replies. "Korinn took the elf below. The Gods only know what they've been doing with 'im down there..."
He gathers himself and makes a proposal.
"Look, if you let me go, I can 'elp you! I'll 'ead back an' say you was just a bunch of travellers an' I saw ye off. Then I can arrange ye distraction, an' I walk, unharmed, alright?"
Dorno's just sitting there casually weaving but says aloud, without looking at anyone really, "bad man is not sorry". "Bad man is just scared and selfish. Dorno will do it."
OOC
He is referring to the previous plan of him disguising himself as this bandit, wounded, returning to the fort and calling for help to lure some of them out, meanwhile the group quickly decides the best way to sneak in while they are distracted.
Also, I was planning to use the Uncorn spirit to heal, but perhaps the Bear spirit totem would help everyone just scale the fence from any side they want and get some temp HP to boot?
Bear Spirit. The bear spirit grants you and your allies its might and endurance. Each creature of your choice in the aura when the spirit appears gains temporary hit points equal to 5 + your druid level. In addition, you and your allies gain advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws while in the aura.
Vark seemed ready to let the halfling go off to do his plan, but at Dorno’s comment, he shrugs. “I guess... whichever. As long as you don’t do anything to alert them, you won’t be hurt.”
Dorno finally looks up from his fiddling around in the grass and stares at the bandit for a minute. "I think you might be a little sorry, but Dorno is not stupid, either. You stay here. You will be ok. Then you can go make a good life. Be nice to people. Dorno and his friends will go help the nice elf wizard man and bring him back to the pretty Lady." At that, and with the help of the others, Dorno makes sure the bandit is tied up and cannot interrupt them over the next hour. If the man has a knife of any kind Dorno will take it as say "this will help, but later". At that he tosses it into the grass a solid thirty feet away from the halfling so that it will take a good while for him to get to it and cut himself free.
At that, the team heads back towards the bandit camp. As they grow near Dorno tells them "I will ask the fey spirits of beasts to help you and make you strong." "They cannot visit long, so you must hurry. I will go be the little bad man so they will see me. Then, I might have to run, so.... Good luck!" At that he gives them a wide grin for second but then focuses on the task at hand. The firbolg closes his eyes and takes off a bracelet of what appears to be the stiff, dried stem and leaves of something akin to a holly bush. He holds it flat between the palm of his hand and close to his mouth, whispering something into it in Sylvan. At that a slight shimmer can suddenly be seen amidst the group and it begins to take a shape as tall as even Val, the dancing light also settling onto the skin and clothing of the party. The shimmer begins to become more clearly defined and the white outline of a great bear can be seen. Dorno opens his eyes and smiles more widely than the group has seen thus far, his ears wiggling. Dorno waves at the spirit and it waves a bear paw back, leaning forward and settling down onto all fours. The white spirit of the bear can clearly be seen now, and the light on everyone's bodies seems to be absorbed into them, invigorating them. At that, the spell complete. More urgently now, Dorno says "thank you for coming, we all must go!"
The firbolg begins to dash around the last hill towards the bandit camp. As he goes, the party can see him shrink down and morph into a badly bloodied version of the halfling bandit as he goes. For one quick second when the change is complete, Dorno looks back at the party and smiles, teeth missing from the bandit's bloody face, and he waves at them before dashing around the rest of the hill.
As he approaches the camp, still running through the grass but trying to stay low, halfling bandit Dorno starts waving one arm up as if calling for help. Once within 100 yards of the camp he pretends to trip and fall to his knees a few times before finally staying down on one such performance. There he keeps shuffling and crawling forward, waving one hand towards the camp and the guards on the towers, hoping to hide the slight height discrepancy between him and the real bandit. At a distance they can likely hear a low cry of "Help!" from the 'wounded' bandit as he slowly crawls forward.
OOC . Seven temp HP for all party members. Advantage on STR based checks and saves, such as climbing the fence if you can get there with the bear within one minute.
OOC . Just being vague about how he is tied up and such so we can move along. Basically I'd imagine, since no one has expressed a deep desire to kill him, that we want to incapacitate him for an hour or so and then let him go on his way one way or another. Perhaps for now he's hog tied so it takes a while to get to his knife and/or free himself.
We're really stretching the limits of the bear spirit ability here considering the timing and distance the group needs to cover without being seen, but what the hell, we can try. If not, maybe you guys can find another way in. Dorno will have to sneak a peak at the approaching party rounding the hill behind the camp whenever he's down in the grass and not up calling for help so he can use his Bonus Action to keep the bear moving per the mechanics of the ability, but I don't see anything preventing all of this from happening specifically other than a tight time window.
Dorno is quickly spotted by the bandit patrolling the east wall, and from a distance the man can be seen calling something down into the interior of the compound, while pointing out over the palisade. A few moments later the east gate swings outwards and a burly dwarf accompanied by two taller comrades begins to move in Dorno's direction.
It's very clear that Vark isn't quite sure what to do. At first, he begins moving towards the wall near Dorno and the spirit, trying to crouch low in the grass as he does. Seeing the gat open however, he decides maybe it would be better to approach from the back of the camp, and he begins moving in that direction. But as he leaves the range of the bear spirit, he feels the surge of magical strength fade. Looking up at the wall, he shakes his head and scrambles back towards the spirit before saying an orcish curse under his breath and beginning to try and scale the wall.
Bründir made aad dash away from the bear spirit, up a hill positioned right between the encampment's two gates. A commotion of hostile shouts rises behind him, though, and makes him stop short to rush back and help Vark.
(Started flanking around the camp, changing to a more frontal strategy to keep allies protected.)

The bandits moving towards Dorno look around suddenly as shouts of alarm go up from the palisade behind them, and find themselves with enemies on all sides. They turn and advance on Valaith, Vark and Thurston, where they are trying go mount the wall, drawing arrows and shooting as they go. Valaith is battered by two arrows, but the crossbow bolt only skims off the surface. In her rage she ignores much of the blows and keeps moving.
Bründir plods steadily towards the bandits near Dorno, letting loose a shot from his crossbow as he goes, but at this distance he fails to hit.
One of the bandits on the towers looses his own bolt in Bründir's direction, but it clinks harmlessly off of his scale mail. Another is more lucky and the bolt knocks the dwarf back. That blow will leave a bruise.
Again, Vark looks apprehensive as their plan begins to fall apart, the stream of curses continuing under his breath. he looks back and forth between the wall and the bandits now approaching, before finally setting his eyes on the bandit. As he begins to move in his direction, wind starts to whip around the sorcerer's feet and arcs of lightning bounce across his body. With one last word, this time in primordial, the wind bursts suddenly creating a funnel cloud around his lower half, propelling him up and over the wall. As he lands on the platform, he releases the storm magic surging through him to send a bolt of lightning rocketing into the bandit.
The bandit twitches and shakes as the witch bolt rocks his system. One of the men manning the watchtowers looses a distant bolt at Bründir, but it falls far short.
With the strength of her rage and the power of the bear spirit rushing through her, Valaith leaps atop the palisade and brings her maul around and down in a heavy ark that smashes into the bandits torso. He hits the deck like a sack of wet potatoes.
Halfling Dorno sees the bandits he was attracting turn away and head in the direction of the bear spirit and his friends. The bloodied imposter bandit mutters "oh no" with a bit of a whistle to it through the shattered teeth Dorno had imagined himself with. He then mutters "please help my friends!" in Sylvan through his mystic connection with the bear spirit. At that the shimmering white spirit rounds and charges the trio of bandits hoping to take their attention away from the others and perhaps draw their attacks.
Dorno himself takes two steps forward as he morphs into a cougar and is swiftly dashing towards the bandits to help his friends.
The halfling meets Bründir's gaze defiantly.
"I'm good at what I do, but no dragonborn is worth dying for," he replies with venom on his tongue and spits on the grass, apparently having found his courage.
"I could be useful to you. What is it you want here?"
