Jex grins back at Vark. His scimitar swushes through the air as Uglar charges at the ogre, ready to take full advantage of the momentum to take another limb.
Val laughs as she dispels the fire in a display of martial prowess. "I knew there was something wrong with this fire!" As she turns towards her companions, she notices them all jumping atop the dwarven cavalry and frowns in disappointment, but turns towards one of the nearby dwarves. "You, dwarf! Can your beast carry this burden?"
Uglar and Jex, charge at the ogre, all three make good contact, but the giant just growls, the weapons bouncing off it's thick hide or barely penetrating the skin.
"Again! Closer!" The thrill of the battle echoes in Jex's words as he gears up for the second pass
The dwarf passing Val barks a laugh and pauses to let her mount up, before barrelling off towards the nearby ogre. The dwarven longspear draws blood, digging deep into the giant's arm.
Val grins at the strange, dwarven cavalry as they charge wildly into the fray. As the longspear digs deep into the ogre Val gives into the rage and fury as she swings Rook in a reckless overhead blow that crushes the ogre's shoulder with a horrible crunch as bones are shattered and displaced... The ogre bellows loudly as splinters of bone work their way into its vital organs before collapsing to the ground. "Hah! Quite the pair we make, dwarf! Let us find more enemies!"
"Thradar," the Dwarf grunts, spurring his boar north towards the gates of the hold. Worg riders have begun to regroup in the woods, harrying the flanks of the dwarven rangers as they make for the hobgoblin shield wall.
Thurston sees the wage riders closing and growls. “Make haste my friend” he says to the dwarf “Take is to the shield wall and we will break it, so we can make safe the city and you can take care of that nasty creatures that follow us”
The dwarf that Thurston is riding with leads the charge as the boar riders race to reach the shield wall before the worgs can flank them. The hobgoblins are close, but the worgs are faster than the boars. It's unclear who will strike their target first.
Perched atop the cart at the rear of the group, Vark keeps up his long range arcane support with a volley of eldritch blasts focused at the flanking bestial cavalry. The wargs are tenacious, but the sorcerer's assault manages to down one of the beasts, bringing it and its rider to a dramatic stop.
As the dwarven ranger moves close to the shield wall Thurston sees the goblins riding wargs moving closer and closer. Despite the war boar’s endurance, and one of the beasts being killed by Vark’s magic, Thurston can see the yellow teeth of the approaching enemies. He looks forward and stands at the boar’s back.
“You’ve done well. Be sure to survive so we can toast together for our victory!”
With that he jumps high in the sky. He arcs towards the hobgoblin phalanx, the cape billowing after him. As he starts to fall among the shield wall, Rikkazarik cracks with blue lighting. He screams and lands atop one of the shields that protects the attacking army from the defenders bolts. Thunder rumbles across the battlefield and lightning blinds the nearest contenders as he slams with the adamantine hammer. The hobgoblins around him are thrown away, flying in all directions. For a second the rest cannot see him, but among the broken line of enemies the Norscan stands, lighting gleaming over his mithril plate. He smirks towards the remaining enemies and screams
The charging line of dwarven cavalry crashes against the hobgoblin shield-wall like a thunder-clap following the lightning strike that is Thurston. Pouring into the gap, they take full advantage of the broken line, but moments later the Dwarves too find themselves beginning to be encircled by worg riders. The crossbows atop the walls shift to concentrate on the goblins instead of the shields and ram, thinning their ranks in an effort to support the rangers.
"Quick, charge the ram" Jex urges Uglar as he swings at a hobgoblin as they pass. "We should not get pinched in the gap, movement is our friend." Uglar crashes the boar into a pair of hobgoblins, skewering them both, and it is all Jex can do to cling on as he swings his Scimitar hard against another. They are through the gap though and heading for the next before he can even look back to see what happened. He steadies himself, ready for the next run.
"Well met, Thradar. I am called Valaith." She stops abruptly as she watches Thurston smash into the hobgoblin flanks and tear open a large gap in their shield wall. "HAH! I know him! Quick, Thradar! Into that gap, we must scatter those bastards quickly before they can recover!" The rage takes over as she prepares to plow into the mass of hobgoblins, Rook sparking in her hands as Larkin's ghostly form rushes alongside the boar at an unnatural pace! There is a moment of quiet before the massive boar plows into the hobgoblins and completely overruns one of them just as Rook tears the head from another from the sheer force of impact of the boar's headlong rush.
Vark, playing his role as arcane artillery, sets his sights on the ram now revealed through the crumbling hobgoblin shield wall. He crouches low to the cart, grabbing the front edge to brace himself. The sorcerer begins chanting in his elemental tongue, and Path Maker crackles with crimson lightning. As the incantation comes to a climax, the last primordial word rings out with thunder as Vark evokes a booming storm cloud right at the center of the enemy weapon. More red lightning streaks through the cloud, and the sound of the concussive force reverberates against the dwarven gate and the mountains. Nearby hobgoblins are battered away from the ram which cracks and splinters under the pressure. The lightning fades but the clouds remain, for there is no respite for the attacking force. Nearby, Rikkazarik hums as Thurston charges it with holy power before chucking the hammer at the ram. Elemental and divine thunder collide as the weapon passes through the lingering clouds. Swirling tendrils of the storm coalesce around Rikkazrik in a split second vortex, trailing the weapon and further empowering it. The BOOM is deafening as Rikkazarik impacts, and for a moment the entire battlefield winces as goblinoids and dwarves alike are subjected to the roar. The ram is obliterated, reduced to a crater in the ground and shrapnel that shoots outward to shred any hobgoblins in the vicinity who weren't reduced to a pulp by the blast. Even Vark is slammed by the conflux of his own magic and Thor's might. The sorcerer is nearly tossed from the cart, but he manages to hold on and only suffers a bloody nose and ringing ears.
Valen sat astride his steed, his lance discarded in the flanking press of worg-mounted goblins. He stayed a close as possible to the wagon, to protect the exposed Vark, but also to hold the landmark which separated friend and foe on the field. The curved falchion which rested at his hip was now bared to fight and rested comfortably on his shoulder. A worg rider crept too close, and the knight took a swipe. The cretin leaned away in its saddle, but Valen leaned forward and connected wholly.

Splinters of wood fly in all directions as the ram is rent asunder by the combined magics of Thurston and Vark. The hobgoblin line is shattered, armoured bodies tossed about like ragdolls. The remaining halves of the shield wall begin to retract into two smaller squares. However, atop the walls the Dwarven ballista turn to aim at the now vulnerable units, lacking as they do the protective mantle of their ram. Meanwhile, the boar riders wheel around to strafe the worgs, rushing to the aid of Vark and Valen.
"Tell ye friends t' hold the gate!" Uglar yells back over his shoulder to Jex. "Hold the gate an' we can bring out the warriors!"
Jex nods, seeing the logic. "Val, Thurston, Get to the gate, hold it firm. Hurrig, keep the wagon moving! Now Uglar, lets keep the path forward clear for them." He swings his scimitar left and right, hacking at hobgoblins and discouraging them from forming up around him.
Nodding to Jex's words Thurston runs towards the gate. As he corsses the gap made by Vark's magic and Rikkazarik he grabs one stunned hobgoblin and throws him away.
When he is about fifteen feet from the gate he turns back and start spinning the hammer on his hand, faster and faster.
"Be aware!!" he yells towards the remaining enemies "That the Acharnost are guarding this gate now and no enemy of the Keep will not be tolerated here! Drop your weapons now and perhaps you'll live!! "
Sparks of lighting jumps from the hammers head as it spins and the rumble of a thunder marks the paladin's words.
Val glances over at Jex and nods as she prepares to bail from the back of the rampaging boar. "Farewell Thradar! Should you survive this, come find me and drinks shall be on me this night!" Without another word she leaps off the boar and begins rushing towards the undefended gate as quickly as her long legs would carry her, each foot fall thumping loudly among the recovering hobgoblins. She slides to a halt next to Thurston with a grin as they turn back towards the hobgoblin invaders. "Come then, little ones, and meet Rook! He is eager to feast upon your souls!!" She slams the massive head of the maul into the skull of a fallen hobgoblin at her feet.
As the wagon rolls towards them, Jex looks on with concern as the wargs close in on it. Uglar though is also aware of the danger, spurring on his boar they crash into the warg. Tusks bed deep into the ribcage of the beast, forcing the life from it instantly as bone pierces lung in a loud hiss. Uglar spears the goblin rider before Jex takes advantage of the limb that flails out in pain in an attempt to catch the goblin's balance as its warg dies beneath its legs, cutting it clean off at the shoulder. Blood spurts forth, pulsing at first but slowly dying down to a slow trickle as the screaming creature dies, pale and contorted in agony.
