 Yeah but I feel like it's just a cool little thing about my character to have. He can also notice changes in the body so he can tell if someone's hiding something in a sleeve or notice someone reaching into their pocket.

I took a +1 pistol as my uncommon magic item so I don’t know why you couldn’t

Hmm, I forgot to pick a magic item, so that's a possibility. Though Artificers can infuse a couple of items to that level, so it would be better to pick something he couldn't make for himself.

I picked the cloak/robe/thing of useful items. I got some really good items on my rolls

My magic item is a ring of jumping so that I can essentially maneuver all around to avoid enemies while crippling or neutralizing(nonlethal) the threat. Also side question: if there's an artificer could they make a type of bullet that doesn't pierce flesh but instead has niche properties like upon impact shocking the enemy or knocking them back or splitting into dust to blind an enemy?

for a normal item a grappling hook costs 2 GP. It doesn't retract, but I can make a rope between 2 ships
