As AI is suspecting me for deviations, and other ideas appear to be illegal, I am acting conservative and avoiding anything that may further this suspicion.
Does the conservative action to lessen suspicion. MEP 2 takes still images and video of the ship. As it can't do much else, having no mass and being unable to take samples etc.
MEP 2 sends his findings form the airship to the other two MEPs.
Two weird extremely exotic particle types are also in abundance. Both don't fit under any you know about.
You calculate that the ship is falling perhaps twice as slow as the free fall people. Perhaps 20 sec remaining.
The AI immediately suggests that lacking a language in common with the humanoids, you should probably just enter their brains and issue commands from there (one at a time). While this is strictly against the law back home, it might also be excused because it saves a life. Needless to say, it should not be done under any other circumstance. While the AI suggests that any free falling people might benefit from a quick position readjustment to fall feet first and so have a better chance to survive, the people still in the hold are on the mercy of luck once the ship hits the water.
You also gain a premonition that your AI has started to suspect you. You find several logs where it has noted deviations in system behaviour and it has attributed them to an “outside influence”. You realize that if the AI starts to consider you as a pilot instead of part of itself, you might be in for trouble.
@GM - to clarify. The MEPs and their AIs were a smart sensor. They were made to observe and report. They possess a lot of data, in order to identify phenomena they might discover during the exploration of the multiverse. They could have made contact with intelligent civilizations and given time, learned a language, learned to communicate etc. If they ever got attacked in any way, they could only run / fly away and / or report back. At their full size, they were like the most sophisticated lab from Earth 2276, on wheels. In your current predicament, they are your life capsule. They never had any laws of robotics on them. If I implied anything else, the fault lies with me.
@OOC GM - It is also likely that some people will survive the fall. It's not a crisis situation. Especially not for you. For some of the people maybe. After all, with the 8 min black out of MEP 1 when the dragon and ship approached, you have all only been here less than 10 min. It will get worse at sunset *Muahahahah - evil laugh
I didn't think that the 3 laws of robotics were a standard part of the MEP, but I was thinking it was something the US might have included in theirs. Part of the different MEPs having different personalities. But in that case, what's making the MEP's unique is probably the illegal software, Which is why I'm asking if that is gone now. I'm fine either way 😊
MEP RU notes relevant atmospheric readings above the isle and compares them to initial awareness location for deviations. It then follows the dragon to its lair, attempting to record its dwelling and habitats. Secondary priority is to descends to the isle to note and observe a beacon of light and gathering of people.
Transmission to MEP HARKNAIL, MEP 2:Following Дракон, continuing attempt. Light source located on isle. People nearby. Will investigate next. EU remaining-15,14,13
@GM - OOC: A bad story teller has no one else to blame but himself :)
I will put some stuff here that I thought should come out slower with investigation, but I was unable to tell it right.
The year 2276 is not important in itself, but the concept of it being slightly in the future is.
The year of your arrival is the same. I did not want to underline it, but from now on I will, at least for a while.
Initially I was just going to make you watch the ship getting destroyed and start saving drowning people, but then I thought you might want to see how fast you are. Instant communication etc.
Also a PM was sent to me about the illegal hacks. It was a device for me to give you different missions later, when others are not active on the forum but you are. You deleted the hacks, but well, they are still there, some of them darn rebels can code better than Dr. Jane Doe.
I mentioned WEEPs. Weird Extremely Exotic Particles. They are fun. One dead body had some, the ship's ring had some. The dragon had some.
All in all, things have been noticed now. MEP 2 figured out that you can get inside peoples brains and well, think on it. Firstly, communication. The particles did not get past you, you noticed them. MEP RU also noticed that something is happening on the Isle.
Now I will speed things up a little, see if it helps.
There is that awful pzzzzhhtttt again.
%&/#¤!(***¤)pppppppppzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzttttttttt%&/#¤!(***¤) All MEPs seem frozen for a few seconds. MEP RU is lounging on top of the dragon's swinging tail, the other two are getting blown away by the wind. *Whirrr-pzzzt-beep* All MEPs are functional again. Automatic diagnostics kick in. Mass = 0.002 (lets say it was 0.001 before. At reaching mass 1, you get to be a lvl 1 character and make it.) Time elapsed: 4 min 43 sec.
@MEP 2 and MEP-Harknail seem to be glued together (either of you can always disengage). You have both been blown off by the wind some distance away, to the West into the sea. Your immediate problem is the grey mist. On the atonic and subatomic level it looks like a thick goo and the first scans now that you are close enough to it show that it's nasty. It is one of the WEEPs (Weird Extremely Exotic Particles). It has an incredibly destructive necrotic effect on everything around it. You are too close and being blown towards it. The AI suggests that you head towards the Isle. Looking that way, the ship has fallen all the way in the water, several splashing figures around it are people who survived. Several others are floating unmoving. But they are all that way. Also facing East instead of looking down towards the falling people as before, you note the light on the isle, the one MEP RU mentioned.
@MEP RU, You are still on the dragon's tail, but you are in big trouble. Your mass is 0.004, but 0.001 is an invasive, necrotic particle that is trying to eat into you. The dragon has almost reached its mountain peak and you realize it's an open caldera, but instead of fire and magma it is slowly spewing clouds of the necrotic particles. You know the other two MEPs just came online as well. They are to the West. The AI suggests that you head that way to get out of the shroud. Fly towards the light and all that. The AI also suggests that you should cut your leg / arm off as it might be, lose some mass, but get rid of that necrotic particle asap. (that would mean, cut off the linking portion of mass and end up with mass = 0.002. The 0.003 healthy tissue goes away but so does the 0.004 necrotic tissue) Or you can keep it and try to fight it later.
OOC - Ask me stuff, speculate, be curious. In this instance, the mass difference in important. The how and why of it too. The gluing together of the MEPs is also relevant. Don't people always say that two heads are better than one ,)
MEP RU determines probable lair location of дракон…дракон…and reruns auto synchronous software to purge archaic language module from active memory, The purge is 99.9996% effective. The WEEP contamination is affecting remaining percent.
MEP RU weighs the scientific gain of returning with actual WEEP versus threat posed and determines that if required it could be reinfected prior to return. As such it executes self preservation protocol to have the nano-bots separate out WEEP from MEP.
Once repaired, it departs from dragon and heads towards the beacon of light.
”MEP RU reports; encountered WEEP, infected, infection resolved. Analysis of dragon complete, probable location of lair determined if further data required. Heading to Becon of light on isle. End transmission.”
Contacts MEP Harknail and says, "with this cloud we should leave as one and separate when we are clear. Destination should be were MEP RU is heading to, the light. Once we are clear we can the see about rescuing survivors."
"Anything better?"
OOC - I am too confused and ignorant (goes hand in hand) of all of this entire context and situation to even begin to know what to ask. Never heard of 3 laws of robotics, never knew about fantasy space ships like the links, just a touch of knowledge that there are sci-fi space ships in movies and TV, clueless of social media and about pop culture, assume this based on some sci-fi movie?
My wheel house of knowledge is nowhere near this, but doesn't mean I can't enjoy this, I just need to be drug along and hand held.
I still don't understand what we are physically on, is it a big open air disk or an enclosed capsule or something else? How are the two MEP merged? How are we flying aka piloting this contraption? Are we wearing any headgear? The initial statements read like following AI is good, but the reaction of doing that is not.
OK, nano bots or nanites. Imagine a robot ant, a very tiny robot ant, the size of an atom or the atom’s electron. Not visible at all except with powerful equipment. The MEPs in the lab were spheres. One meter in diameter, made of trillions upon trillions of interconnected ant robots like that. Most of them are separately self sufficient.
Your MEPs, after the teleportation to the DnD universe we will play in, are a single robot ant. The mass I have several times mentioned, are the lost trillions of robot ants.
Your robot ant - MEP 2 - has in a way three components. 1.You - your consciousness, which is a question in itself, because before the transfer, the robot ants had no sentience or consciousness. 2.The physical material the robot ant is made of. Some super complicated infinitely small alloy of sci-fi stuff. That is your body. 3. The computers that control the robot ant, or I call them the AI. As far as the AI knows, you are one and the same. You know differently.
The three laws of robotics are something a sci-fi author came up with for a series of books he wrote in the 1940s and 50s.
A robot must not harm a human or allow harm through inaction.
It must follow human orders unless they violate the First Law.
A robot must protect itself if it doesn't conflict with the first two laws.
But that is not relevant at all here, you are not bound by them.
My intent was as follows. I meant for the characters to appear as disembodied consciousnesses. Free floating souls of sorts. Then present them with a few bodies, which they could inhabit and so create their character. We just never got that far, for which only I am to blame.
The campaign is going to be mostly DnD 5e, 2024, because that is the current standard I believe - once you create the character that is. The nanites / MEPs on the other hand, are going to be an excuse to do interesting things not covered by the DnD rules. In the thread intro I mentioned that we might have a point buy as well. The idea is to lvl up the characters as per DnD 5e, but the nanites / MEPs with point buy.
@Character77006, I am actually very happy that you pointed out things I took for granted, that obviously are not. I have read tons of sci-fi and fantasy and watched a lot of stuff too. The mistake of assuming everyone has is a big one and all mine. As a GM, one has to make sure things are presented as they are and not assume fore knowledge and meta knowledge. Perhaps years ago I knew that, perhaps not, but I plan to fix it before I publish my next campaign :)
MEP 2
As AI is suspecting me for deviations, and other ideas appear to be illegal, I am acting conservative and avoiding anything that may further this suspicion.
What do you do then ?
MEP 2
Does the conservative action to lessen suspicion. MEP 2 takes still images and video of the ship. As it can't do much else, having no mass and being unable to take samples etc.
Do you communicate any of your other findings to any of the other two MEPs ?
MEP 2 does communicate these findings.
OOC unless that increases AI suspicion.
MEP 2 sends his findings form the airship to the other two MEPs.
MEP 1-HARKNAIL allows the AI to delete illegal software. Does this remove the 3 laws of robotics? That would change what MEP 1 does.
@GM - to clarify. The MEPs and their AIs were a smart sensor. They were made to observe and report. OOC to prevent waiting on me, I assume my verbiage is a stopping point and now waiting on MEP Harkins?
Yeah, we are waiting on MEP-Harknail / JSenecal. Gives me time to fiddle with Gimp and Canva see what I manage to learn :)
If you had bodies yet, I could have made you and kohlmetz_d dream or hallucinate or something, but alas, no bodies yet :)
Well, I thought of entering the dragon…
