@MEP-RU, the WEEP is coming from the dragon's lair. You found out previously (quote: The dragon has almost reached its mountain peak and you realize it's an open caldera, but instead of fire and magma it is slowly spewing clouds of the necrotic particles.) The undead are coming from the grotto, one at a time, not that often and they head from there to the crystal. For example at the moment there is one coming out of the grotto, one half way between the grotto and the crystal.
By your estimation, as long as there are a few villagers at the gate, it will hold for a while yet. Nobody there is getting slaughtered. You scan and analyze the gate and its structural integrity is good. You zip from the gate towards the grotto. Along the beach there, on the West side, people are lying on the ground, wet, recently spilled out of the sea. You see several bodies still floating in the water. Ship debris, planks, crates and barrels on the waves. A couple of the people on the beach are coughing, alive and conscious.
@MEP-Harknail and MEP-2,
The crystal MEP’s story about taking over a rat had enough information on how its done.
In its case, it was a rat, so it did not bother with fancy and just did “puppet master”. You two however have choices.
Get control of the Thalamus in the brain.
This is the most common target for "total body" control.
Almost every sensory and motor signal (except smell) passes through the Thalamus before reaching the rest of the brain.
By nesting here, the nanite can intercept incoming data and "spoof" outgoing commands. If the person wants to run left, you replace it with "run right."
The person is a "passenger” in their own body. They see and feel everything but you are in control.
That is what the MEP from the crystal used on the rat.
You can take over the Basal Ganglia
Then you would control the person without them always realizing it, if you become good they might never notice.
This area handles the initiation and suppression of physical movement.By stimulating the Striatum, you can trigger walking, fighting, reloading a crossbow etc, while making the person feel like it was their own idea or a sudden muscle memory reflex.
For observers, the person would move very smoothly and precisely, super calculated. The person themselves would think and if asked would say that they are just “In the zone baby”
Get to the Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex.
If you want to control the person's decisions and loyalty.
This region of the brain makes emotional regulation, moral decision-making, and risk evaluation.
You don’t move the person but control their desires, You can kind of program them to like things and push for them etc. You can make them feel loyalty or paranoia etc. It's like brainwashing and the person believes they are doing it because of their own ideas, but you have edited their ideas at the molecular / chemical level in the brain.
Go to the spinal cord. You can completely sever the connection between the brain and the body. If you do that you also control the breathing and heart rate and everything else.
There is also a non hostile take over, where you try to talk it over with the person and get in charge temporarily.
OOC - Lets talk shop. My idea was for you to start from the beach, pick bodies, dead or alive and then come here to help and fight.
If you pick a dead body (out of sight from the villagers, otherwise your idea was perfect JSenecal) then you start character creation. Or you can talk with alive people and strike a deal. The difference in the game would be that if you pick a dead body, you have to sort of merge the MEP to it. Doing that, you can make any character you want and roll 4d6 for the abilities etc. If you pick an alive person, your MEP can get out at times as a MEP, but you pick the usual attributes from DnD 5e and also, sometimes you would lose actions (when I decide) because of imperfect control and in general slower communication between you and the host.
So as you are now, assume there is on the beach (MEP-RU is scanning it all) a person, dead or alive (your choice) that is the race, class etc that you want. Even the background, family connections friends etc you want to play.
So, you can either do that now, or you can just get in a villagers head, communicate the need to turn the valves and which ones and then go to the beach.
If the crystal gets “fixed”, less villagers might die and you would resolve the attack on the crystal for now.
If you go for the bodies before that, you will have to come back and do it with your new characters ,)
Either way, after the crystal, my plan is to stop the undead from the grotto and after that maybe the ones at the gate. ;)
@everyone, let me know how the character sheets work on the side, because I have no clue. I assume I would have some sort of access to them ?
Also, don't be shy to ask about stuff you want, optional stuff from other books etc. Whole concepts etc.
@JSenecal, if you want, one of the available bodies is warforged. Also if you want, it can be Harknail himself, slightly out of shape (say WEEP infected and drained to lvl 1)
I rolled in the sheet and got the below badly cut and paste. You will see them once I get it linked. Also do we have any gear or arel we just wearing the wet clothes of the drowned bodies?
While you are near the beach, one of the drowned people dies close enough to you to notice, a very tiny, bright particle exit the body and float right above it. Then you detect a signature in time space similar to only one thing, wormhole experiments back home. The light particle seems to get sucked in that wormhole and is gone.
@MEP-Harknail and MEP-2,
You see the same thing as one of the villagers dies.
Neither of you is quick enough to follow.
(the small light particle if the person's soul. You have seen a person die of a heart attack back home in the lab, but not their soul. Thinks here seem to be different)
MEP 1-HARKNAIL will communicate with one of the villagers to tell them which valves to turn to allow the crystal to attack the zombies more freely. Hopefully that will let the crystal attack the archer directly, so that no more villagers need to die to protect it.
After that, MEP 1-HARKNAIL will head for the beach to pick a body to animate.
{Thanks for the offer of a warforged body, but I'm fine with flesh and blood. It won't be the first time I've run a flesh and blood character with a electronic mind.}
{The choices were to take over a living body, or animate a dead body. What about taking over a body that's just about to die? Could that save the soul? Sort of a combination of alive and dead, where the MEP is fused, but the original mind isn't gone. It's fine if you don't want to bother with that.}
I know it sucks when you have good thing going, but i have no clue why i dont see your rolls. When we figure out how to roll, you will have to reroll. Keep 1 x17 for luck, but roll 5 times for the rest. Once we figure it out
I believe Character77006 rolled his stats in the character builder. You as the DM should be able to view all aspects of his sheet (and change/modify any of it). I changed a player's rations (they were playing a squirrel/racoon homebrew species) to 25 pounds of acorns once.
I will be taking over a Dragonborn Monk, so will be using point buy.
MEP-Harknail and MEP-2 carefully enter a villagers brain, one each and give instructions for the valves.
The villagers realizing it is a sign from the crystal promptly turn the valves. The now spins faster and have some lateral and tilting motion. The light blast seems slightly bigger and it seems to recharge faster as well. The second one eliminates the only archer the undead had.
That done, you feel its about time you gain some ability to affect the physical world. You head to the beach.
@MEP 1-Harknail, I like the idea. Here is how I see it:
MEP-Harknail is buzzing around the beach, obviously with a particular aim in mind. Unsatisfied, you fly towards the water. You can't get the tiefling out of your mind. You scan and scan. There ! A bit further, the scan is a match. Just as you approach, a small bright particle, tiny, smaller than you, almost nonexistent and yet it makes you think of infinity. It raises just a little above the floating body. You know this, you just saw it a few moments before. You flash forward, the fastest possible, you can feel the wormhole form, its pull and then you crash into the bright dot. You are ripped apart, pulled by the wormhole, mixed up with the light. then there is an opposite pull, towards the body. Suddenly, the wormhole is closed and you slam back hard into darkness. (as soon as one of your buddies gets you out of the water and applies some 2276 first aid or chest compressions or something you will be ok ,) and if they dont you will wash ashore soon, no worries Now tell me how you see it and we can choose what to go with :) Also, roll 4d6 dropping lowest etc if you prefer. )
(@everyone, if you decide to roll but dont like it, can alway take the generic sores or point buy)
@MEP 1-Harknail, you are alive, and have a soul. The relationship between the two consciousnesses I leave to you and how much of it you want to share with me or us is up to you.
@everyone, one for all and all for one and so on. We stick together.
@Character77006, please reroll 5 of your stats. You can keep 1 x 17 for good luck and as an apology from me not trusting your awesome rolls. It is just fair to the others to roll in a visible place.

@GM
If do the sheets on this site you can create a campaign and that creates a link we can use to attach our character sheets.
I will need several hours to create a character due to real life chores today.
I rolled in the sheet and got the below badly cut and paste. You will see them once I get it linked. Also do we have any gear or arel we just wearing the wet clothes of the drowned bodies?

back form work, i will start reading now. in the meantime, can you all post a roll, just a d20, here in the thread. I want to see if they work.

@kohlmetz_d, what did you decide to do ?
Also, I have a question for the three of you. Would you prefer to keep running together, or would you rather I do a 1 on 1 with each of you ?
how are dice rolls not available ? mine worked
I'd prefer to keep running together. I've run characters with multiple personalities several times before, they were always fun.
Rolling stats here where they will be visible to all: Ability scores: 9 14 11 13 9 14
Not good scores, I'll stick with point buy. And start working on the character.
OK :)
So dice work ?
