When Onji mentions Durnek, Dirk finishes his margin notes and puts away his tools, “Then we should meet with them, there are signs the garden is tended. Does anyone know anything about this statue?” Dirk is now gripping his club looking all around for signs of movement on the ground. A smell like minerals and earth exudes near him (elementalism)
After idly speaking the obvious Marin walks slowly around the dragon statue, his eyes shifting intently from open door to open door half expecting, or hoping to see someone.
Perception (if needed): 26
If Marin ends up walking all the way around the statue without noticing anything he will call out a greeting.
"Hail and good day to any who may abide here! We have just shortly ago arrived by ship and are new to the isle!"
He briefly glances back around at his companions before focusing more on the doors. His current thought is that if anyone is here and heard they are more likely to emerge from one of the open doorways.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Ash, you notice the garden is busy. There are footprints everywhere. Some are human, but many others are small and clawed, like a reptile's. The gardens are freshly tended and well-cared for, just as Irtoscommented.
Dirk, as you map the area, the name "Dragon's Rest" finally makes sense. From up here, you can see how the cliffs curve around the water like a giant stone wing. You see the same tracks Ash did, quite a few of them, scurrying between the garden, the doorways, and the path leading higher up. They're fresh, too; someone was likely working here just a few hours ago.
Marin, the statue is a beautiful tribute to a bronze dragon, looking out over the sea. As you check the doorways, you realize these are simple monastic cells, as Onji mentioned, each furnished with a bed, a nightstand, a small desk, and a chair. The first one is empty and dusty. The next few are lived-in, with beds and small personal trinkets on the desks. One is an absolute mess of tools and junk. The last two are cramped, each with four hammocks squeezed inside.
People definitely live here, but they aren't in their rooms. The only way to find them is to keep following the path up the cliff.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Onji keeps walking the path. Realizing there is more here then he thought, and while no longer a bodyguard, he needs to be more proactive, he too begins to pay attention to the surroundings.
{Before taken in by the heroes, Irtos lived in a nest of kobolds and dragonborn all serving a red dragon. Do the small clawed footprints look like they could be kobold tracks?}
Irtos will follow the others further up the trail.
Looking at the tracks, Irtos definitely recognises them as kobold footprints.
Onji points out the obvious: the path continues upward, curving behind a large rock. It’s quiet, and while people clearly live here, the plaza is currently empty.
Irtos calls out to the others, "Looks like the caretakers here include kobolds. So don't attack any kobolds you see."
{Don't know if kobolds are normally a kill on sight monster in this world, but just in case, Irtos lets the group know that kobolds aren't automatically enemies on this island.}
Dirk follows Onji. As Irtos mentions not killing kobolds Dirk recalls hearing about kobold kill holes. Masters of traps and small spaces, a shiver runs up his spine, but he agrees individuals should not be killed without provocation. “Lady Irtos, I will not kill without cause.” Dirk takes a deep breath wide open spaces always put him on edge. His club sparkles as he continues to readjust his grip (shillelagh).
Marin asks after having heard a warning that there are kobolds on the isle.
"I've heard bad stories about kobolds but I also won't harm them if they leave me alone."

As the group moves further up, you pass a small, free-standing building with a peaked roof and a weathered wooden door. Just ten feet past that, an open doorway in the cliff leads into a dining room. Inside, you can see a long table with two benches and a single chair sitting at the head.
Continuing on, there is one more opening, followed by the only doorway in the entire cliff face that actually has a door. It’s made of sturdy oak and reinforced with iron bands.
Dirk, as you walk past these, you don't feel any movement behind the stone walls or the wooden doors. But you feel the presence of other creatures now, some lighter and some heavier. The vibrations you're picking up are all coming from further up. The path keeps climbing, curving away from these rooms and heading towards the top.
"True enough, and it could easily be mistaken for a show of hostility."
Marin gazes ahead up the trail to where it curves around a large rock.
"That looks precarious," pointing ahead at the large rock, "not only can we not see what lies around the bend but if that rock comes loose we'll have to move quick, and this high up you'll want to be careful navigating around it to avoid a fall."

Quickly coming upon two more entryways, and the only door so far Marin asks, "Should we try the door?" and he raises his hand to knock but hesitates, old instincts naturally kicking in to be careful around doors as they might be trapped or locked and he almost reaches for his thieves' tools but then thinks better of it and proceeds to rap a little tap tap-tap tap tap... tap-tap kind of sing-songy knock.

Yes, follow Onji the Obvious up the path. :)

Onji looks to Marin, "never heard anything about them, so no idea what they are... keep your daggers sheathed, I am sure you can draw fast enough."
