Your cart pulls into Baldur's Gate just as the sun begins to set. You can hear the clamor of the city from behind the walls, as you draw up to the famed Basilisk Gate. People are shouting back and forth, and irritated-looking guards watch the toll booth outside. The soldier looks taken aback. "Ummm... ok. I meant, like, what religion are you. And-" He's cut off as you hear shouts and a scream from further down the line. A group of guards are being attack by people wearing black cloaks. "Stay here!" The guard rushes forward, drawing his sword. The tollbooth is empty, the gate is open, what do you do?

Vesper had already begun to stutter out an answer as the guard dashed away: "U-uh, my name i-..." Smirking at her half-finished answer, she begins to realize that something is off here---the dark-cloaked figures, which originally seemed harmless, are attacking. "Oh, (gp)!" she shouts, swinging herself off of the cart. "If you wanted to make some coin, weasel, make it now--by proving your fire in combat!" 

She'll swoop towards the figures, as well as activating her Crimson Rite ((4 necrotic damage taken. If they're within 50 ft., she's also going to take a swing at whichever one's causing the most damage. It's a 10 (6 + 4) to hit for 14 (7 + 4 + 3 cold).))

 Flint rushes past everyone and says, ”GET READY TO KICK SOME MURDERER BUTT, STEEL!”

”Im not exactly sure that this is a good idea!!!”

Flint is going to charge the nearest black-cloak guy, with a critical hit (wow) and Divine Smite them for 16 Slashing and 9 Radiant damage.

Steel will cast Magic Missile on the guy Vesper attacked, dealing 10 Force damage.

Vesper, misses. They all take the damage. There’s a total of 5 guys, two wearing armour, two wearing cloaks, and one holding a skull flail and wearing a skull mask. You manage to kill one of the black cloaked guys, who crumples to the ground. Vesper, I‘ll say you attacked one of the armour guys (not that it matters, you would have missed all of them), and Steel hits the same guy, who yells and falls back, clutching his arm.

Armour guys: 20

Black-cloaked guy: 21

Skull guy: 4

The black-cloaked guy, who acts first, will stab into Flint twice, which does double damage due to a certain aura, for

19 to hit, 14 damage

27 to hit, 17 damage

They will then turn invisible as per one of their abilities. Vesper, your turn.

The guards will roll initiative. 3.

“Cultists of Bhaal! Keep your distance, lest you desire a nasty poke from their enchanted knives!”

”But you cannot smite them if they are too far!”

”oh sweet bahamut..”

*Nice. Btw that is a lil meta gamey, fine for now, but please ask if your character would know that beforehand. Because you’re a paladin, you definitely know abt the Dead Three.*
