The creature looks at Nif, but then Vondal pokes his head in and tells his joke, catching the dragon's attention. Once the magic is released, the dragon's scowl turns into a look of mirth. It begins laughing uncontrollably, falling onto its belly.

Karl, you're up! Actually, you're prone. But you're in melee with the also-prone dragon. The dragon's laughter is dying away.
Karl mutters "me thanks to Moradin and his servant for the pick me up"as he climbs to his feet "fighting the good fight is never a bad idea. Being a coward and a traitor like my Pa - now that's a bad idea!"he says to Adrom. "Mind you - what I'm about to do may not be the best idea either" he continues as he channels his inner dwarf and 100 years of rage (Bonus action - Rage) at his father's actions and says "right ya overgrown lizard my turn now" as he pushes his shield to his back and attempts to clamber up the dragon (Grapple 19- second attempt as first is not working Grapple = 18). Assuming he can lock on he moves his way up its neck where he wraps both legs around it and his left arm. He then gets ready to hit it next turn with Pacifier II.

The dragon is still recovering from its laughing fit when Karl gets to his feet and jumps through the doorway and onto the creature's scaly neck, slamming it back down onto the floor. He quickly scrabbles around so his head is facing the same direction as the dragon's and holds on with two legs and one arm.
Adrom is about to reply to Karl but he decides that now is not the time to drop wisdom pearls. He, instead, asks Moradin for more help. A spiritual maul, engraved with dwarvish runes appears over the fragon and slams into it.
Adrom follow suit and tries to slam down the dragon's head with his warhammer.

I am not sure if the dragon is also prone, in case he is...
The dragon is prone, and since spiritual weapon is a melee attack, both attacks are at advantage. For future reference, everyone, since Karl is "riding" the dragon's neck, there will need to be some allowances for not hitting Karl when aiming at the front part of the dragon. I'm going to saw the attack with your warhammer is a regular roll because of advantage and disadvantage. The spiritual weapon can attack a part of the body not covered by Karl, so it gets advantage.
Adrom swings his warhammer, but he aims too high, and the weapon flies over the creature's snout. At the same time, because he can't see very well through the doorway and past Karl and the creature, his spiritual maul also misses.
Adrom swings his warhammer, careful not to hit Karl in the process, but just manages to slam his weapon down on the tip of the creature's snout. At the same time, he summons near the back end of the creature his spiritual maul. Without Karl to avoid, the spectral weapon slam down on the dragon's back.
Adrom, I'm assuming you moved to E4 to attack and then back to E3.

Cursing himself inwardly, he manages to yank the weapon free, and feign a final swing for its head, only to fall back into a rolling a retreat and disappear once more behind the corner to avoid any dragon breath. If the DM wil allow, I would like to change my action, happy to use same rolls.
Nif would drop his crossbow, drawing his sword and dagger. He would then slash the dragon with his shortsword and use his cunning action to disengage before backing away once again.
My understanding is if the DM allows this, the attack would not be at disadvantge.

With a fairly large bang, Nif drops his enlarged crossbow, draws his sword, and steps forward, angling in beside Adrom to stick his blade through the door. He aims carefully to avoid Karl, and his thrust is a mighty one. He cuts along the wyrm's jawline, leaving a deep wound. With a rogue's style, Nif steps back again.

The dragon snarls, "I want to eat my meal in peace," and a wall of tangled brush bristling with thorns springs into existence along the closest wall of the cottage, blocking the door, and causing Adrom, who is against said wall, to attempt some fancy footwork.
Adrom, roll a DC15 DEX saving throw or take 28 piercing damage, and you're shunted into D4. If you save, I'll allow you to move to D4 anyway, if you wish, you just don't take the damage. While the five-foot-thick wall is there, the dragon gets full cover, and a party member can move through the wall, but at 1/4 speed, and you have to roll the DEX saving throw or take piercing damage.

What is up with these rolls? You can't get up quite yet, Karl. Until your turn, you're prone.

(bite attack: 13, damage: 20 piercing damage + 8 poison damage)
Karl pulls back just in time for the dragon's jaws to snap right in front of his nose. One of its claws rises and attempts to swipe at him.
(claw attack #1: 23, damage: 12 slashing damage)
He is just out of reach. It attempts to move him closer to the other arm as it also takes a swipe.
(claw attack #2: 20, damage: 15 slashing damage)
The barbarian squirms to the side, and the second set of claws miss him as well.
Karl, you're up! As you are considered prone, you are subject to those disadvantages as well in your current state.
Question: can Karl dodge while on the dragon's back. He'd dearly like to use his Dwarven Fortitude.
DM - Stopping a god in his tracks
Sure; you can dodge while grappling. But, for future reference, you cannot dodge while being grappled.
