Nodding to Barnibis as he moves to depart Gargan replies. “I appreciate your understanding Sir, I’m glad you appreciate things as they stand. I will make a point to visit the Order and register with them in due course and should be uncover anything more then we shall endeavour to pass this to yourself and your investigation at first opportunity. Thank you for your candour, I hope you uncover the truth of this matter quickly. Good day to you.”
Turning to the elf woman Gargan once again looks at her curiously as she mentions the tavern. “It is indeed, though not currently in a state for business. I don’t wish to be rude my good lady but would it trouble you to tell us who you are?”
The half-elf expression falters at the news, and then falls altogether at the question. "Evrae. Just Evrae. As I've said two times now." She turned to reply with shoulders sagged in defeat. Looking then back to the tavern longingly, Jack sighs and shakes her head. "Do y-you have at least s-s-some drink in stock? A place to sit down too? Today has been... trying, to say the least, and I could really use either or -- J-just for a few minutes! Then this forgettable face will be out of everyone's collective hair.. scales.. fur... huh. Y-ya know, you three make for quite the, uh, colorful picture together."
Evrae smile quickly falters as she looks over to the Paladin. "A-and I haven't forgotten what I said earlier. I believe I-I promised to explain some things?"

Looking at Evrae Gargan looks unimpressed. “Well Evrae, that wasn’t exactly the question was it now? Regardless you are right, let us go inside and talk on this in private and with a bit more warmth about us.” With that he gestures towards the entrance to the manor holding out his arm and indicating for Evrae to lead the way.
Kanus nodded, "Aye, I think we are all due for a fire eh, and a drink sounds good too" he looked to Evrae and smiled, something about her was familiar, but at the same time he didn't recognize her at all. Still she seemed forward, and if she was some sort of spy, killer, or otherwise there were four of them and one of her, assuming they could find Jack.
Evrae shrinks at the look and started to fiddle with her fingers in no obvious arcane gesture. Though in perhaps hindsight realization about how it may seem, she quickly stops and gives a small smile. "W-wait. It wasn't? Then-...Mn. Nevermind."She gives Kanus one last look and a nod in agreement, and then follows Gargan's gesture's implicitly. Though if after the fact it didn't appear he was gesturing to either the bar section or the manor itself, she looks back once more confirmation before moving to a hopefully still unlocked door.
If she had any concern of being suddenly grabbed or spelled, the young woman never shows it. Once inside and out of immediate sight of any officers however, her demeanor starts to shift ever so slightly to any paying close attention. The tension that had been ever present in her posture fell away along. She stood taller as well, and assuming nothing untoward happens in the interim...
Continued in spoiler in case any had no plans:
She made her ways immediately over to whatever seat Jack always favored. Turning around to the others, she relaxes into her seat while fishing around in the inner folds of her top while keeping an eye on anyone look inside. Once assured it was safe (for now) she continues on.
"Try not to freak out."Is her only warning as she pulls out a blank white, eyeless mask, covering her face. Over the span of six seconds, Evrae shrinks several inches, fills out in places, and hair lengthens, straightens, and darkens into the familiar black tone. "On a scale of one to ten-..."Jack's more huskier voice emits just before she pulls away the mask. "How good was my performance? Be honest."

As Jack reveals herself Gargan nods to himself as the reason for the familiarity with Evrae is made blatantly apparent. "So that's why you were so familiar. It seems you are a woman of many talents Jack. Is this your true form?"

Jack
Whereas Gargan's response elicits a sigh and mutterings of "Here we go again", the tabaxi draws out a giggle from her. "No need to be embarrassed, my rambunctious little kitten. Save my mother and boss man Mirt, not many can see past my trick. Not before its usually too late to matter, in anyways." Her expression falls slightly at the admission. But with practiced ease, Jack forces a mostly genuine smile back into place by the time she turns back to Gargan.
"Admittedly, calling it a 'trick' is not quite true. Its more of a natural talent, really, as you've discerned already. One I was born with, as far as I'm aware." She takes a swig from her left behind mug from earlier. "Mn. As far as 'true form' goes, that's... a difficult question to answer. When I use my talents to such an extent, I 'become' that person. So in essence, they are all my true forms. If I have an 'original' form, I do not know... But Bix might."At this point she picks up sheathed katana left behind in her hurry, and places it on the table.
Whereas at most times before the weapon appeared no more than elegant but simply foreign design compared to most longswords along the sword coast, looking at it more closely now comes with a growing sensation of vertigo followed by weariness. As if the weight of many decades were being pressed onto the consciousness, threatening to crush everything that made the looker there present selves until only a shadow remained behind.
FORTUNATELY, its easy to look away at any point, though not without some lingering sense of weariness and worry of time running out persisting for a while more.
"And this is him. It. At least I think so." She shrugs. "Had to make a deal some years back to try and find out, but needless to say... its gonna be while 'fore I make any real progress."Jack abruptly claps her hands and starts rubbing them furiously. "Enough of by me! What do you guys think? Whose up for some more investimigating?"
Kanus looked at Jack with a sense of wonderment, the voices she had impersonated before were amazing, but this was something else. His eyes went stern as he thought about the situation, but then softened a bit, "So...do ya only do pretty ladies then?" he said with a half smile, acknowledging that he accepted what she was telling them and was ok with it.
"Too much coincidence to have Zhentarim on our doorstep and a fireball going off. It appears everyone still believes we possess the stone of golorr, perhaps we should work on finding it then."
Jack smirks at Kanus. "I do tend to enjoy their company more leading up to that sort of thing.... But that's not really what you were asking, was it?"She teases, tempering her happiness back from their response. "I need to report what happened with my boss anyways. Should take no more than a minute. In the meantime, there were other folks out there who might've seen something. So with any luck, we could probably catch them after or before those two badgers are done with'em." As she spoke Jack set to work writing down a message on her paper bird. Mid-way through she has to pause and look to Cloudfur. "That reminds me! Do you think that guy from a few days ago -- the one we helped back at the cemetry -- Might he... Think he might know how to talk with the dead?"Her eyes widen and in a moment of excitement she tries to grab Cloudfur's hand-paws. "Can you do that?!"

He looks at Jack with some disdain and retracts his paw from her grip.
"We would probably be better off talking to that necromancer we captured than Lord Everdawn, actually speaking with the dead tends to be considered a dark art I doubt our Knight friend has that power. However that unfortunate gnome did appear to have come from the sewers, perhaps we should try and back trace his path. Unless anyone else has more information." (I'm assuming he isn't aware of the party's intentions to head to the Bent Nail etc he was just trying to follow the party after he inspected the gnome)
at this point, Cloudfur will sit at whatever might serve as a makeshift table in the common room during their renovations and upends the pouch he retrieved from the gnome and inspect its contents further. Holding up one particularly pretty green stone up to the light.
Eyeing Jack suspiciously Gargan listens intently to every word that the strange woman says, especially when she produces the strange weapon and refers to it as "Bix" while revealing that she has made a pact. Deciding that he should keep an eye on the woman he turns back to business at hand and looks up to the others, chipping into the discussion that is continuing.
"The Gnome would be the one who set off the fireball, and I presume because the Zhentarim had them cornered and left them with no other choice. It would likely prove useful if we knew who this Gnome was. That would leave us two avenues of investigation as we also know that there was a fellow who had examined the Gnome's body before they fled to the Bent Nail."
With a look in Cloudfur's direction and giving him a knowing smile he continues: "Given our previous experiences within the sewers I am reluctant to suggest that we split up at all, will the trail still remain if we go to the Bent Nail first my friend or do you need it fresh?"
"If the gnome set off the fireball, how did you end up with the necklace then? Why would the assailant that escaped leave behind such a powerful artifact?" Cloudfur ponders this for a moment before continuing "they also left these behind so it clearly wasn't a robbery attempt." he'll indicate the bag of gems he has "as for following the gnomes trail, I just know that he came from the sewers because of the muck upon his boots and clothing nothing more."
As Cloudfur mentions robbery Gargan nods to him in agreement with his assessment before smiling as the Tabaxi comments on the muck. "Agreed, whatever they were after wasn't money. I can only assume that the Gnome accidentally killed himself in a desperate attempt to get away from the Zhentarim, and given the location that the young boy found the necklace I would suggest the surviving assailant was too panic stricken to search the area more thoroughly for the weapon despite it's value. That or they cared not for they had already got what they came for? As there is no trail to follow perhaps we should pursue the lead on the surviving assailant first of all then, he was seen heading to the Bent Nail and we attempted to learn more there but the guards stopped us from investigating any further. Shall we return?"

Jack
Jack, who was still reeling over the concept of speaking with the dead as a dark thing, finally shakes herself out of the funk long enough to really register everything else. It in fact bugged her so much, she started to playing with her hair and chewing her lip in deep thought over services offered by most. A task that proves easier to consider than to do, as most of the rare few ties tended to revolve around evading the more preachy acolytes following an ill-advised moment of weakness and passion.
Looking to Jack, the others soon see her drooling and smiling dreamily over something. "... Hmm? Hm! U-uh-Sure. Let's do that. Let me just finish this here." She hurriedly finishes her note, but puts it away for now. With so many guards swarming the area, one was all too likely to get curious over the paper bird as to take it, and probably put its sender in holding over it. "Wait.. Uhh.. I'm actually gonna talk to that cat-eye guy. Chances are the guard already have him on the case. But just in case, we could use the spare set of eyes on this. But I'll meet'cha back the nail." Jack hops out of her seat on that note, and after trying probably unsuccessfully to wrap everyone up into a group hug, she again dons her mask long enough to assume the form of Evrae before pocketing it, and heading out to find the investigator.
"Got more energy then a young pup that one" Kanus says as Jack springs out the door, "Prolly not best she's alone, but I'd hazard she wouldn't 'ear any of it. So...we're off to the Bent Nail then?" Kanus' voice said he was along for the ride, but you could tell there was definitely some hesitation here. He didn't know how deep this rabbit hole went and wasn't sure why they were climbing in it to begin with. That being said, the cat had found gems on the gnome, maybe there was more where that came from, a thought which made Kanus smile.
As Jack heads out Gargan simply shakes his head, turning to Kanus and voicing his agreement. "Indeed, she is certainly most keen that is for sure."
Picking up on the hesitation from Kanus Gargan looks to the man and gives him an apologetic smile and as he is feeling frustrated by all the secrets decides it better to take a more open path. "It seems like the Bent Nail is our next port of call indeed. I must apologise my friend. It appears that we have gotten wrapped up in some deeper happenings within the city and now we have dragged you into it all. I wish I could tell you exactly what is going on but we are still piecing it together ourselves, I'll tell you more over a glass of something later but the short version is that there is supposedly a hidden cache somewhere within the city and it seems several of the hidden factions within the city would like to get their hands on it. Some how we are in the middle of this conflict, which is why my friend Cloudfur here wisely voiced his suspicions that this explosion on our doorstep was no coincidence. I hope that I've not put you off, it is most intriguing all of this and there is quite the prospect of reward should rumours prove to be true, but perhaps now you understand our motives better? Especially as we have a few debts of our own to pay off as this Manor is restored!" As he finishes Gargan looks a little exhausted but at the same time relieved. He clearly feels better for having got some of this out in the open.
The tabaxi nods at Gargan's statement, scoops up the gems in to their pouch and sequesters them somewhere upon his person before getting up to follow them
Kanus nodded along with Gargan's words, ultimately ending with a look of 'Ok sure' on his face. He let the words sink in for a moment before speaking up, "...So what do the rumors say of this reward?"
OOC: I don't want to hold us to this scene, if Gargan and Cloudfur begin making their way to the Bent Nail Kanus will follow behind as the questions play out.
