Beegred to the party (softly): "We need someone who can speak smartly and respectfully to... uh... ChipotleGrits of the GildedWhisk clan. I should speak for us."
If no one else speaks up, then I guess Beegred is going to take point and be the face for the group.
I was trying to deliberately butcher Beegred's suggestion, so that someone... anyone... would stop him.
If Skameros is stepping up, then let's roll with it.

Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
I only slightly butchered his name :) and Beegreds and Grithik though they are phonetically close :)
though to be honest I believe Skameros has made it clear he isn't the biggest fan of what he calls dirt nomes - we'll see how diplomatic he can be - he did fall in to one of their traps already and got skewered.
Oh it's a running gag that they butcher all of the names :)
Since I was using Tuco from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" for the character avatar, I was trying to think how to make him a doofus who thinks he is the smartest one in the room. The easiest way was for him to butcher names (either from being too lazy to remember, or his poor Common education). Then pretend that he had it right the whole time (and still getting it wrong).
I had assumed Skameros was butchering names because... bugbear. Why should he care what you say your name is?

Grithik's eyes go wide with sudden understanding. Replying in undercommon, "Oh! You don't speak common! Of course...." Then turning back to his companions, "Not sure if any of you can understand him, but he doesn't speak common. Hence the mime routine back there."
Just for clarification, they made no attempt to speak at all, in any language. Also, the deep gnomes would mostly communicate in undercommon. It would be almost second nature at this point for the party to speak or at least understand undercommon.

I assumed this, Orubis is just making excuses. Just to be clear.
Skameros only reached out in common, I assumed and Grithik doesn't know who knows what languages yet, so is just trying to be helpful. (Boy would it get old having to translate every conversation between undercommon and common)
To be honest I'm confused. Is the chief talking in common now or undercommon?
Also - is the "Diggermattocks" a derogatory term for the deep gnomes or was that actually a clan name mentioned somewhere beforehand? What I assume in either case is that he's referring to the current inhabitants/settlers of Blingdenstone (not the wererats)?
Your group has two who can speak Undercommon, so I'm not going to enforce some of you not having a clue. The other two can act as translators without explicitly saying so. Of course, if you want to roleplay not understanding, the way Beegred does, that's fine too.
Diggermattocks are the last name of Senni and Dorbo, the informal leaders of Blingdenstone.

Anyone going to respond to Chipgrin? Or do I continue?
Rodolfo will keep his mouth shut and focus on not soiling himself.

Welcome Oribus(@nshrock) to the party. Sorry for the autopilot for that little bit, but now Orubis is fully under nshrock's control.
Well its a good thing I didn't try to kill them earlier then :P

Is that what the rest of the group wants to do? Go talk to the Pudding King?
Grithik will certainly follow along, still not wanting to step on toes.
