Gurnik looks impressed by Skameros' verbosity. "Indeed. However, I am not holding back. If I could do what you ask on a whim, then our militia that put their lives on the line every day with their scavenged weapons and armor would have benefited as well. It is possible for me to do the will of Callarduran, but you will have to earn it from him first."
"Unfortunately, Callarduran does not allow a priest such as myself to just dole out such gifts. A beneficial act, such as cleansing the temple would earn such a gift, or other similar blessings. But the age old philosophical question comes to mind... what came first? The basilisk, or the egg?"
Beegred puts on his thinking cap, which is always a cause for worry.
"The blessing of the forge lasts less than a day, and can be done by even the most green forge cleric. If you are saying that cleansing the temple is needed before deals of longer duration, that seems reasonable. But if you are being stingy, that just makes it likely our cleansing attempt won't succeed. It is in your interest to help us out in preparation for a mission that we are doing on your behalf.
"For your riddle, that is easy. A basilisk is when you smoosh a snake and a rooster together with magic." (Yes, he is thinking of a cockatrice, and doesn't have that right.) "So what came first is the snake egg, and the chicken egg.
"Wait... that is wrong. First comes bacon, then toasted bread, cherry tomatoes, and lastly some soft-boiled chicken eggs. And then some fresh squeezed fruit juice, if that is available." (Yes, he has lost his train of thought.)

Rodolfo tries to direct the conversation back to the task at hand, "Can you point us in the right direction of the temple you are speaking of? We would very much like to cleanse it first to make the rest hopefully easier."
Gurnik looks a little bit surprised, "You will venture into the Rockblight to attempt this? Bless you all. Senni and Dorbo don't want to risk more gnome lives when we are already besieged by the oozes and threatened by the wererats. I believe cleansing the temple will give this settlement some much needed morale and momentum towards improving our situation.
Ok, down to business. When we came on this colonization mission, we fully expected our temples to be desecrated and we prepared for that eventuality. We had some spell gems prepared by some experienced priests on the surface world to contain the Hallow spell. Activating that gem in the temple will begin the cleansing process. Elementals known as galeb duhr will be tied to that place already, and they should arrive to stand vigil under the security of the hallow effects. But they will be vulnerable until three galeb duhr stand guard under he full effect of the hallow spell. You will need to defend them until all three are in place.
You will need to place the spell gem on a menhir. It should activate on its own when you do so. This menhir is known to be on the far eastern edge of old Blingdenstone on a path that leads to the old House Center, a structure known to be to the north.
I will retrieve the spell gem, and meet you at the gates to the Rockblight on the morrow to hand it over when you are ready for it."

"Do you know how long this cleansing will take?" Narstin asks. "How long we will need to defend them?"
Gurnik points directly east (area 10 on the map), "The Rockblight has been sealed off behind a pair of heavy doors. They are locked and guarded at all time. You will be granted entry when you ask for it." Turning to Narstin, Gurnik shrugs his shoulders, "The time it takes for the Hallow spell to entice the galeb duhr to return. Several minutes?"
When Rodolfo requests directions to the market from Gurnik, he gives directions that will lead you east then north through a temple dedicated to Segojan Earthcaller (area 8), the entry point into the catacombs below Blingdenstone where the honored dead rest eternally. Continuing north from there leads you to the market area (area 7).
As you walk through the temple the gnomes call The Ruby in the Rough, you see scores of gnomes, wild with various afflictions and nervous ticks being tended to by a handful of priests who do their best to triage the worst and provide magical aid.
The cavern that serves as the market is full of petrified fungi where the merchant gnomes set up makeshift stalls to hawk their wares and barter with one another. You see caravans of giant lizards being unloaded of their cargo into warehouses carved out below.
The merchant gnomes don't refuse to do business with your party, but you can easily tell that they intend to gouge you on price due to your reputation.
Rodolfo takes a look at the offering, but doesn't go into price negotiations right away.
He says to the others, "There is some very cool stuff there, but nothing that I think would be immediately useful to us when dealing with the elementals. Lets come back later, after we have hopefully helped them and see if the prices make sense then."
Looking around, "Should we check out the gates to the Rockblight so we know where to go tomorrow morning?"
Beegred: "A fair offer would be 33 silver. You ask for twice that? It is a sad day when a soldier has better math skills than a merchant... 3 gold, 7 silver."
Intimidation: 16

(the actual roleplaying is fine in this thread. OOC chit chat and discussion is in the OOC thread.)
The gnome looks flustered, surprised you're even pursing the purchase. "What soldiers like you don't know, is something called supply and demand! The other merchants won't even talk to you, so I gots all the supply, and you still got the demand. 5 Gold!" he still drops his price a bit, challenging you to barter further.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Beegred mixes in a little flattery with forceful glares. "You do have the skills to drive a hard bargain. But I will not pay more than the items are worth."
(Alternate Insight and Intimidation checks, which both have the same bonus. I'll roll six times and see how it goes: 18, 13, 14, 9, 12, 14 )
(He got 3 successes at the start, and then a string of failures.) Beegred barters the gnome down to 4 GP, but the gnome is not impressed when Beegred tries to make bids lower than he already stated. If the gnome is not offended by him trying to push his luck, the halfling will hand over 4 GP for the requested items (backpack, blanket, waterskin, 2 sacks, and 2 pouches).

As Beegred and the merchant conclude their business, a clanging bell sounds nearby. The deep gnomes around you all draw weapons and retreat as you see a guard stumble back, then rise up in the air. A strange shimmer around him reveals the surface of the gelatinous cube that has engulfed him.
Well since it looks like I'm quiet a way away from the cube....
Skameros hears the screams, sees the guard being engulfed by the cube, sighs once and looks around for a torch or something he can set on fire on his way to Q7 (which I believe keeps me within my reach of the cube)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Beegred will mutter: "I don't want slime on my new equipment, bah." However, that cube needs to be killed before it melts that guard.
He moves to O10 to N6. Bonus action to put Hunter's Mark on the cube north of him. Swings twice at the cube with his magic sword.
