The creature manages to drag its mate away to an adjacent cavern further to the south, making pained sounds as it powers through its injuries. Once out of sight, your party can hear muted grunts, huffs and mewling from the surviving creature. But the main cavern with the damaged summoning circle and the assortment of shards appears empty and free of visible threats.
Beegred will inform the others that they can enter to investigate the magic circles.
He will make a quick pass around the cavern (not walking over the circles) to make sure there are no other threats. Then he will park by that passage in case the basilisk decides to return. (Not looking at anything too directly. Relying on Observant Feat to stay out of trouble.)

Rodolfo and Orubis feel the pressure of the magical potential of the chamber when they enter. Beegred continues to feel the same pressure, undiminished by the destruction of the summoning circle. After an hour of cleaning up and a bit of discussion, Rodolfo and Orubis conclude that even though the cleaned up summoning circle is destroyed, the potential of this cavern is undiminished. The loss of the summoning circle should be a minor setback.
As Beegred stands watch, listening intently, the creature does not return. However, it's whimpering and mewling can be heard not far away, as it is not retreating any further either.
Beegred looks uncomfortable: "If this is related to that thing that we is looking for, the Intermulch Boom, then Gnomey and her pals will probably come here. Maybe we should clear out that basilisk, so those rock gnomes don't become gnome rocks."

Beegred casts a spell (can be ritual, there is time) and he begins to make honking and groaning noises, which is reciprocated by the creature in the nearby cavern.
Beegred will have limited ability to communicate with the creature. There will be no 'conversation' with this one, but at an instinctual level the creature will convey:
“Oh. I thought they were monsters. Animals are a different story. If I can catch up, I can actually call on the Mushroom Prince to enchant these beasts. They ought to cooperate with any needs we might have. I don’t know what those might be, as I’m not sure how to call the Boon.” Orubis scratches his chin thoughtfully.
Orubis will try to get close enough to the creatures to attempt to call on the Mushroom Prince to calm them and learn as much as possible about this area as he can.
(Charm Animal and Plants description says the animal has to be within 30 feet and be able to see you. It does not say you have to be able to see them. It also has to make a DC 14 WIS saving throw and it is unaffected on a success)
As Beegred snorts and grunts at the creature in the next chamber of the cavern, Orubis grabs a hold of the Mushroom Prince's focus, casts his eyes down to his feet and enters the next chamber. Beseeching his deity, Orubis tries to charm the creature.
Unfortunately, the creature is having none of it. It hisses and spits at Orubis as it holds its ground.
Beegred immediately senses the change in 'tone' of the creature as Orubis approaches, as the creature gathers itself to defend its nest and mate to the death.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
DC 14 WIS saving throw: 9
The creature ceases to hiss and spit at Orubis, as The Mushroom Prince exerts it's influence on the creature. It resumes it's pitiful mewling over the corpse of its mate.
(For 1 minute, the creature considers members of the party to be 'friendly' and Orubis has advantage on ability checks to interact socially with the creature)
Rodolfo continues to examine the circle and trying to figure out its function - is it operated somehow or is there another weird planar effect going on here, etc.
Rodolfo concludes that the circle was just an arcane preparation for summoning spells, permanently built into the floor of the cavern and it was nearly infinitely re-useable. Similar summoning circles can be recreated on each casting with the correct materials and knowledge.
Skameros continues to stand there, watching.
