After hearing the sound in the corridor, Therien snaps his head around so he can see if any new threat has materialized. "Possibly the trap has been reset,"he ponders aloud.
"Opening this door may require that ruby of yours, Bartle. What do you say?"
Hox studies the corridor, but nothing about it has visibly changed.
"You and I both wish the ruby worked that way, elf. It's not for unlocking doors, it's for opening the Vault. And since Gruun is currently holding the results of our last escapade through the path behind us, we should probably get to opening that door before I have to eat my own chins," Bartle guffaws.
Therien is hopeful that the Mage Hand triggered the only spell that is protecting the door ahead of them. To make sure, he directs the spectral hand to touch the door one more time, and, again, he asks Gruun and Hox to stay back as far as possible. If nothing happens, the wizard approaches the door, looks for any kind of mechanical traps, and then attempts to open it...
Gruun takes a spare cloth or shirt and wraps Fargim in it before tying him on top of his pack. He'll follow Therien's instructions not confident enough to catch the next trap in time.
Therien discovers a magical glyph on the door that would have been set to trigger upon touch. It has been activated and is now dormant. Attempting to open the door by hand, he discovers that it is locked shut.
Hox has never seen the likes of a lock like this before, and he's not certain how the door even is locked. He works the complex mechanism with his tools nonetheless, and just as he is about to give up hope, withdrawing his pick, there is a satisfying click, and the door swings open. Gruun rushes Hox out of the way, but no trap triggers.
Inside the door is a massive cavern filled with piles and piles of fist-sized diamonds. This room must contain more wealth than all of Waterdeep. Sticking out from the glittering gems are hafts and blades of many weapons. Bartle simply giggles at the sight. Hundreds of feet across the cavern, there are two wooden doors along the north wall, an iron door along the east wall, and a stone door along the south wall.

"Things that are too good too be true are not true," whispers Therien as he gazes at the seemingly overwhelming wealth contained within the room. The elf looks at Gruun, Hox, and Bartle, but his eyes study Bartle slightly longer, "Which door, friends?"
"Aaaah! Gold!!!!!" Hox screams out, "A hoard, a hoard, hoard!!! Gold for hoard! Stabbies for hoard! Shinies for hoard!" He goes frantic and cheers in the grasp of Gruun, cheering and shouting in sometimes comprehensible words or not.

Gruun struggles to keep the wriggling Kobold in his grasp. He quickly goes to try and place him on the ground but loses his grip with him still about a foot above the floor. He glares suspiciously at the hoard and begins examining the rest of the room and tries to determine if the hoard is real or an illusion.

Therien Insight: 7
For Therien:
It is hard to get a read on Bartle because he has barely reacted to this revelation at all except to giggle.
For Gruun:
The diamonds reflect the light from the glowing fungus accurately, and don't seem to be an illusion. Examining them closer reveals that in addition to the gleam of weapons beneath the diamonds are a number of skeletons.
Tracking: There are two wooden doors along the north wall. There is an iron door along the east wall. There is a stone door along the south wall.
OOC: Each character has received 50 XP for this social encounter.

Therien begins to wonder if Bartle will ever be of much help to the group.
"Hox, my friend, these stabbies and shinies aren't going anywhere. Let's find the vault first; then we can return to this room afterward,"says Therien in hopes of keeping the kobold on track. "We shall call this place Hox's Hoard."
The elf narrows his gaze and studies the four doors from a distance. "From one stone door to another, I suppose,"he muses. "Let's try that one," he says, pointing to the door in the south wall. Therien begins walking in that direction carefully, hoping that Hox and Gruun are willing to follow...
"Something lies beneath that hoard, I can see bones among the gold. We must be cautious crossing this room, we have no escape from whatever springs up. Hox, we will return for you to claim this, we cannot bring it with us and it will be safe here until we return; Leave it where it lies."
Gruun will follow Therien to which ever door, doing his best to avoid touching anything. He keeps his Greataxe ready and continuously scans the pile for movement.
Therien cautiously leads you across the room. Gruun scans the massive pile of diamonds for movement, but sees nothing but more of the same; diamonds upon diamonds littering the floor. It's difficult to even traverse the edge of the tremendous chamber without stepping on one.
You reach the large stone door on the south wall of the room. It is currently closed.
Therien rolls his crystal focus end over end in his left hand as the group nears the stone door. "Keep your distance, friends,"he commands. "Allow me to try this bit of magic once again."
The elf then casts Mage Hand and, standing as far away as the spell will allow, guides the magical hand in an attempt to open the door.
Hox looks to the corridor, seeing if anything changed.

"...me pick knob?" Hox asks as he holds up his lockpicks, "or break door?"
"Yes, Hox, let's see what you can do," responds Therien.
Hox nods and takes hesitant step forward before walking slowly over to the door. He takes his lockpicks out and tries to pick the lock.

Using his long arms, as soon as Gruun hears the click of the lock (or a broken pick if that's the outcome) he quickly grabs Hox away from the door.
