Violet waves Quil off, "They're being pompous ass hats. The gold is being held so if we're wasting their time, that's the payment. If not, they should give it back to us." Violet rolls her eyes, "It's bs like this that makes me hate the aristocracy."
The guard leads you a little way down a corridor, stopping at a door and getting you to wait there. They enter and you can hear a short quiet conversation. The guard reappears "Enter." he says and then stands guard beside the door.
The room is mostly empty, only a large and ornate stone desk in the centre of it. There is a significant amount of paperwork on top of it, with a particularly large great axe leaning against the side, and a lamp hanging from the ceiling above it. Sitting at the desk is a large Minotaur. He wears a type of plate armour, but this one is a glossy black and doesn't look like metal. It seems to almost absorb the light.
His helmet sits on top of one of the piles of paperwork, revealing a scarred face. One of his horns is complete, although chipped in places, but the other is broken about 2 thirds up.
He breathes a deep sigh before saying, "So what's the 'grave danger' this time? A shortage of ale? Not enough slaves to wipe your ass? Or maybe..." His voice trails off as he looks at you for a second, "Or maybe is this day about to get a lot more interesting?" A slight smile begins to show.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Quilqwen
Feeling quite uncomfortable and weary of the imposing figure at the desk Quilqwen stands silently to the side. His head continually bobbing and twitching side to side as he watches the Minotaur.
Insight : 10 Checking to see his reaction to our news and if he is being honest.
Estellen steps forward, giving the minotaur a half bow before straightening up and speaking, "We have come to find a man named Erazdur Mountaincleaver, is that you? Either way, we must inform you that there is a great monstrosity that has been born near the town of Deford. A being of darkness, created or summoned by the power of human sacrifice, that is now roaming the countryside. I and my party experienced its power first hand, and though we were able to save some lives, we were unable to even scratch the creature with our combined powers."
"No, I am not him, my name is Akrun Strongarm. He died a long time ago, a couple of centuries or more. Although there is still a Moutaincleaver on the throne." He pauses a moment, "There was a minor tremor in the mines a few weeks ago. We though nothing of it, but could it have been a shockwave from an event like that."
He raises his hand, indicating for you to wait, as he rises. You thought the Goliaths you've seen around here were tall, but this Minotaur literally towers over you standing. He moves past you to the door, giving the guard waiting there a number of instructions. The guard leaves at a jog, quickly disappearing.
The Minotaur then leads you to another, much larger room, in the centre of which is a large table inlaid with some sort of magical map. "Show me where."
The map is 3 dimensional, flattening at the ends of the table. As you move your hands over it, the map moves. The map has no physical presence, however.
Quilqwen: He seems to be taking you seriously, although clearly having dealt with his fair share of idiots and time wasters. So far he seems to be honest.
Looking amazed at the map Quilqwen moves around looking at it closely. After a few moments he remembers the task at hand and looks for a familiar marking and tries to find the location they saw ritual at. Pointing at it "They summoned the darkness here."
It takes you a little while to pin down the actual location, as the area of the Orc camp is woodland on this map. Akrun mumbles to himself as he then moves the map around a bit "...not well connected... hard to defend....hmmmm..."
"Tell me, this place, is it of any significance do you think? A place of old magicks or something? And this darkness, describe it please."
Violet perks in at this point, explaining the book/voice as well as pulling our the arcane heart. "I also remember spotting some stone shit over by where that fancy dressed one was screaming stuff. Maybe one of you got a better look?" She gives a quizzical raised eyebrow to the rest of the party.
"Interesting... and the darkness? What do you mean? A cloud of fog-like darkness or dark mist, a perpetual night?" You see a few tall men and women walk in and just keep to the edges of the room. These are probably the only humans you've seen since you arrived. They all have long or long-ish hair and the men all have moderate beards. A few look obviously strong, but all look very fit. Akrun glances in their direction as they enter but nothing more.
Tailine frowns, trying to remember everything Strife and the Tabaxi told us. "The darkness was opaque, not like mist or fog. It moved like a living thing. The ones who sent us here called it the Void."

"hmmm... Elka " he calls one of the women over. They talk for a few moments, pointing at the map a few times, and then she and the others leave as quickly and quietly as they arrived.
He nods towards the leaving humans, "Our scouts, we need to get our own information as well. I'm sure you can understand, however that does not mean that we won't prepare. Leave the name of the place your staying at the front, we'll let you know when the scouts return."

"our main indistry is stone and the odd gemstone. Given the depth of the quarry at this point, it's more like a mine. And whether it's day or night outside, it's always dark down there. That and the lower city levels are in a perpetual twilight anyway, many don't know the difference between night and day. So we have shifts and the city... The city never truly sleeps. "
He travels with until his office before he ducks out to continue his work, pointing the way to the front desk before he does so.
Violet sighs and twirks a bit of her hair before her face, "So we're done now right? Can we go get a room then, I haven't had a warm meal or bath in days." Not really waiting for the party's reply, she simply walks to the front to ask for the 'best hotel around here'.
Estellen plants his staff, inclining his head slightly towards the governor. "We will be making our exit then. We may see each other again quite soon, governor."
He gives the minotaur the name of the inn they picked before walking out.
They tell you that they have no idea how long they will take, but that they're fast.
As you leave you tell the dwarf at the front desk the name of the Inn and he returns the 20 gold, grumbling as he does so.
"the best? Well that'd be the Dawn's Frost, a few streets to the right as you leave. It'll cost you a pretty penny though..."
(should you wish to do anything whilst with in the city you may. E.g. Shopping, working for money, exploring, etc., etc. When either enough time has passed or you're already to fast forward, to what you presume to be the return of the scouts)
Quilqwen will take some time to inquire about have his armor improved and having studding added to it. Or of getting some studded leather armor made that would accommodate his rings. He will also look to buy a sling and an herbalism kit. Then if he can will wonder the city and the surrounding area looking to meet new animals and to find more supplies in nature for the herbalism kit.
Tailine will opt to stay at the inn they already paid for. She'll look into finding some better armor (probably just basic studded leather) and see what price healing potions are selling for. She'll spend a little money restocking her personal supplies and making sure she has enough arrows.
