If you all want, we could make this kind of the standard marching order so we don't have to rehash it each time.
The dim light of Caer Blaine in the distance slowly fades into blackness as you make your way further down the path. The trees in the mountains here are thick, barely letting any light through. It's almost as if you're traveling through a long green tunnel, with nothing but the sound of the wind and crickets to accompany you as you pass. Several hours go by uneventfully, but in the darkest hour just before dawn Liet notices something out of the ordinary as you walk. The faintest hint of smoke wafts in the air, so subtle that it is imperceptible by everyone else.
"Hey all.. I see a small bit of smoke off that way... I'd love to go sneak up to it, but if I put out my flame I'll be blind in this dark." Liet says to the group. "Or we could wait a bit... Dawn seems upon us soon."
((I can't wait till I can shape change to something with dark vision~~))
Ruhkis absent-mindedly adjusts his armor and pack for the road ahead. As much as he would like to leave that part of his life behind, old habits die hard and the soldier in him insists on a steady, brisk pace. His ax swings comfortably in his grip and his mind drifts towards the intricacies of the incantations he prepared for the day. Seeking the silver lining in his circumstance he admits that the coin he earns from this job might be enough for him to afford some more arcane research components and add to the small list of magical effects he can summon.
Spells, the dwarf thinks to himself. Heh. Never in an elf's life would I ever have thought I would be able to make spells happen.
Ruhkis sighs when he hears the human behind him making small talk. The dwarf slows his pace up just enough to fall back next to Theos.
"Just because you can't see any danger with yer human eyes doesn't mean it's not out there," the dwarf cautions quietly. "Where we are now is more important than where we were. And right now we're on a road what's seen plenty 'o death. In fact, we're out here specifically because death is somewhere along this road. Please...for the time being - a little less banter and a little more focus on the task at hand."
Noting a good quality to Theos' armor and the two maces slung on the human's hip, Ruhkis gives an approving nod then stretches his stride, taking his place next to Nalla in the formation. Muttering under his breath to his fellow smithy, "That one's either going to get me killed or save my life. A pint says its both before we collect the bounty."
"Perhaps you should focus sir... I'm not human, and I've just let you know that there is potential danger ahead. Or at least something burning a small fire..." Liet reminds him, halting the group
Ruhkis acknowledges Liet's warning with a nod. The dwarf has long since come to trust the ears and senses of halflings above his own. Signaling for McFuddy to land he motions for Nalla to keep eyes on the road ahead, then takes a couple steps off the path and focuses his attention towards the road behind.
"Perhaps you should focus sir... I'm not human, and I've just let you know that there is potential danger ahead. Or at least something burning a small fire..." Liet reminds him, halting the group
Liet barely smells the smoke, and can't tell the direction yet. ((roll perception for more info, your passive perception was just enough to smell it initially))
((I don't mind you guys taking the initiative and rolling stuff on your own for situations like this, I'll play along with what you roll))
As Liet sticks his nose in the air, it becomes apparent from which direction the smoke is coming; directly off the side of the path into the thick of the woods. Even though the smell was already faint, the wind begins to pick up and the smell begins to fade even more. It likely won't be long until it is gone all together.
At the same time, as the group stops, McFuddy notices a few small broken branches and flattened grass on the side where Liet detects the smoke.
"Sneaking I can do, and with your guidance even better I think. But it's still quite dark. And if I were to put out my flame, I'd likely stumble into a tree..." Liet replies "Though my flame isn't very bright... perhaps I could get close enough to just see their flame, which may be brighter, put mine out, and then get closer..."
"Yes, do that. I can give you my Goddess's guidance and sanctuary. You should be safe and silent then."
((Sanctuary wards the creature against attack))
((Guidance and Sanctuary both only last one minute. Liet would have 60 seconds to find, survey, and come back... I can tell you now that it won't be nearly enough. The smell is faint enough that it is obvious to Liet the origin for the fire is not very close.))
As you all discuss what to do, please make a perception check.

((Sanctuary no. But Guidance I'd use for stealth immediately. I'm also typing up what my plan will be. Will post it very soon. Until then:))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Liet is a bit nervous as there is pressure to work with a team now. He's always been alone up until this point. But willing to show that he can be useful, seeing as how he doesn't have the armor or weapons of the others says "I'll do what I can... Does everyone else think this is a good idea? The smoke isn't close, but it's not too far. I'll try to be back as soon as possible." before attempting anything he'll find some small brush, and light a very small camp fire for the others to have light. ((same size as his flame if possible))
((it's about bed time here. I'm going to roll and say what I'll do if, when others chime in they agree to the action. If others think this is a bad idea Liet will hold.))
"I'll just go see where the smoke is coming from, and come right back!"
Liet will sneak off towards the smell as quietly as possible holding his flame in his hands, attempting to shield the light as much as possible. Once he gets close enough to see what the cause of the smoke is, he will snuff his own flame and get only as close as is needed to see what or who is near it. If he can hear anything, great, but priority is just knowing what is there, and being unseen. Coming back he'll light his flame again as far from the source of the smoke as possible, and to stay silent will telepathically send a message to Theon when near saying "I'm coming back, you should see my flame soon." and will then tell everyone what he saw.
((If he is clearly discovered... well... let me know and I'll decide from there))
"I'm just a soldier who left the army after I completed my service don't have anywhere to call home so I've just been travelling"
((McFuddy is most definitely in the back))
(I'll be in the front/mid)
@McFuddy, you get paid what Greshak said.

"There is some smoke coming from this direction." Liet points. "I'm of the opinion to wait till day break. To scout... "
