Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai sits down and says "please call me Dr Arbutaveyu" as he picks up his cards and looks at them and without showing any sign of what he is thinking thinks to himself "I don't know what I am going to do with this lot but in for a nib in for a dragon as they say."He carefully watches the others (Perception roll - 18) to see how they respond to the cards they've been dealt as he says "I'm good for another dragon"as he places a second gold piece on the table in front of him.
"Let me guess - the gnome? She seems like the sort who could be a surprising ship's captain..." Kirinar replies to the barkeep, looking at him for a positive or negative response. He'll head over then, seeing Doc already heading for the table. To Keyleth he says, "How'd the turtle know it was her?"
Keyleth replies, in a whisper, "Look at the way the others are looking at her. There's a deference there; she clearly outranks them. And the way her hair sits slightly stiffly on her head is a giveaway that she's spent a lot of time around salt. I mean, it's either that or he's using some sort of divination magic. But I didn't see him cast anything, did you?"
She then wanders over toward the card game, trying to find a spot at a nearby table that will give her a view of the other players' faces, looking for tics that might suggest cheating, without letting on that she's watching.
The dealer introduces herself as Dr Arbutaveyu gives his name. "I'm Sana, this here is Grelick and Dengo nodding to the two men in turn and Ortimay nodding to the gnome."
She looks at you expectantly for a moment as you throw a gold piece into the pot. She then shrugs and looks to Ortimay.
"2 cards" she says evenly as she throws a single gold piece into the pot. She puts two from her hand face down on the table and sliding them to Sana.
"2 for me" says Sana, adding a GP
"2" is all Grelick says tossing a GP to the pile
"3" Dengo grunts adding his own single GP to the pile
Each in turn place the number of cards from their hand face down on the table, sliding them to Sana, and collecting the newly dealt cards from her.
Pot is now at 10 gp and Sana looks back to Dr Arbutaveyu . Each player doesn't say much or give anything away regarding what they may be holding.

Kirinar also watches the game, keeping an eye on the ship captain and her reactions. It would be instructive how she reacted to wins and losses...people often let their true, inner selves show in these situations. But he finds the play and betting too interesting!
OOC yeah my bad there. Forgot about the first round of betting. Sorry. We'll muddle through this hand.
Each player matches Dr Arbutaveyu's bet of 1 gp. The pot is at 10 gp.
Dr Arbutaveyu takes 2 cards and the other players make their requests for cards. Sana then deals the new cards out and you get the 10 of hearts and the King of shields.
Dr Arbataveu got rid of the 2 of hearts and the queen of swords. He is now holding 10 of hearts, King of shields, 4 of hearts, 7 of shields and a 10 of shields. Did he have any luck with his Perception roll?
OOC: No you do not get anymore cards. So this is what I am doing to keep this simple.
To get in the round you have to put 1 gp in. I guess this is something like the blind.
Five cards are dealt to each player.
After the deal, the first betting round starts. At the end of the first betting round, each player may discard and draw up to five cards.
The game will now advance to each player seated asking to fold, call, or raise. If no one has raised by the time the play comes back around to the dealer you draw cards.
Once all players have completed the first round of wagering, they will proceed to discarding cards and drawing new cards.
A second round of betting ensues, followed by the showdown where the winner of the hand is the player who holds the highest hand according to universal poker hand rankings.
The general poker rule is a "cap" of three raises allowed per betting round with three or more players. However, if there is a "heads up" situation whereby only two players remain in the game, then raises are unlimited.
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai looks at his cards (pair of tens) and thinks to himself "its worth a round at least" as he places two dragons (GP) on the table and says "Raise."As he is placing the coins on the table he says "I'm looking to get to Fort Beluarian? Does anybody know a skipper of a boat that's going that way on the next tide or perhaps the one after that?"
Ortimay grimaces as she looks at her cards. "I fold" she says as she lays her cards face down on the table.
Sana waits a moment looking at you and then responds. "I'll see your 2 and raise you1." And she throws 3 gp on the pile.
Grelick sighs deeply and folds as well.
"Ortimay here is cap'n of a fine ship and was just complaining earlier she had no immediate prospects for profit." Says Dengo. "And after tonight she'll need to make up some losses." He laughs as he also lays his cards down. "I'm out."
Dr Arbutaveyu places 1 more dragon on the pile and says to Sana "I'll see you!" He then turns to Ortimay and says "perhaps my colleagues"pointing out the other members of the party " and I maybe able to help you recoup your losses?"
Dr Arbataveyi pushes the pot to Sanya and says "its yours" he then turns to Ortimay and says "now about the possibility of transportation to Fort Beluirian?"
"Business before pleasure you know. Maybe we can continue this in the future. " she says to the other players.
She then motions you to follow her and you join her at another table in the tavern.
"Aye, I have a ship that's available. We can set sail in the morning of you want. It'll take most of a day to get to the fort and it'll cost you 10gp per day to hire her. That's paid in advance. If we run into the dragon turtle in the Bay of Chult I expect you to provide the necessary tribute. Any questions?"
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai motions to the other members of the party to join him and Ortimay. He quickly outlines her offer and then says "two questions. First I assume that it a total of 10 GP for your ship not 10 GP per passenger and second if we do run into the Dragon Turtle, what might the tribute be?"
"Yes, that's 10gp for your whole party. As for the tribute it could be as much as a couple hundred gold pieces. It's hard to say what might satisfy him. The cost of doing business around here. "

OOC you didn't see any tells on the other players and no one appears to be cheating.
(OOC: I don't get to discard any more cards do I)
