(After reading through Airhorse’s backstory mine has some similarities but I swear I didn’t copy the idea lol, scouts honor. I made this up in around 30 minutes so if my class clashes too much I can create a different backstory for another class)
Alabaster was named as he was a pure almost white silver dragonborn at birth. He chose the nickname of Phrost amongst his siblings & only permitted his adoptive mother, Dahlimé, to call him by his given name.
CLASS: Sorcerer, Draconian
BACKSTORY: Phrost was one of the largest of the siblings; but he was always calm & reflective. He was the one to always want to include everyone in shared activities. His greatest fear was being alone. He dreaded the day that would end his youthful adventures with his siblings in the safety of their homeland.
Never the less, when the day arrived Phrost set out heading north. He travelled for several weeks until he arrived at the port of Luskan. There he sought to travel further north to the Sea of Moving Ice. This was not to be. The young naive dragonborn was quickly cheated & pressed into service aboard a privateer ship, The Cutter, captained by a human woman, Ursula d'Wynter.
Ursula was tyrant on the ship & a deadly threat to those who were weak or easily cowed by a show of force. Her crew were a blood thirsty lot, with over half being a monstrous race. Her 1st mate was brutish half-ogre female named Tusk. Tusk enjoyed disciplining the new crew members to break their spirits. Phrost was quick to stand for the weaker members of the crew & was often at the receiving end of her lash. Within a fortnight his hide was criss-crossed with marks of the lash. Soon another new crew member was pressed into service, a half-orc warrior. She called herself Totem after her people's spirit guardian. Totem also stood up for the weak as well. Phrost was drawn to her spirit & her passion for comforting the weak. So their lives repeated the pattern menial tasks completed quickly & silently or they reveived the lash. The weak perished & were served to the more monstrous crew members.
After 2 months of this, Totem had enough as Tusk laid into an unfortunate goblin crew member, Totem grabbed the lash & pulled it from Tusk's fingers in shock. Tusk tackled her smaller foe & soon the two were fighting amidst the ship stores. Totem was weak from her captivity & would soon be overpowered by Tusk. Phrost could not stand to see his brave friend slain in such a dismal place. His rage boiled over & he felt something crack in his mind. It felt as though he was hatching all over again; but only in his mind. He envisioned Tusk covered in a thin sheet of frost & he willed it into being. Suddenly his vision manifested into reality. Tusk was struck by a thin sheet of Frost. She froze for an instant & Totem struck her in the head with a nearby belaying pin. The two brave friends soon rejoined each other side by side. They stood against the crew; but they were two against a ship full of pirates & murderers. The two of them quickly made the rash decision to leap overboard; better to die free than to die in chains.
They drifted at see for days, keeping eachother afloat at times. Finally they landed on a small atol in the desolate sea. The atol was less then half a mile wide; but did meet their basic needs as far as fresh fruit, sea birds, & fish for sustenance. Totem's survival skills were instrumental in keeping them alive in those early days. They built a shelter & lived comfortably there for a year. During this time Phrost explored & better learned to channel his sorcerous powers. As the time of the gathering (I had to), came Phrost explained his promise to Totem. They set out to build a raft & get to a larger island. It took them many attempts; but they were eventually able to get off the island. They were soon picked up by a merchant ship out of Neverwinter. They agreed to work as crew members until the ship returned to port. Once in Neverwinter, they joined a merchant setting out to travel to the Moonshaes. Once there they travelled by small craft towards his home. Totem the half-orc ranger was still at his side. As she put it, she had no people so would accompany him.
(The Cutter, Captain Ursula d'Wynter, & Tusk are still out sailing the seas & terrorizing those weaker then themselves. They hold a grudge & I envision Tusk with some lingering disfigurement from the battle between Totem & Phrost)
NAME. Jabber - He was given the name Jabber because he never stops talking!
CLASS. Divine soul sorcerer (Bahamut)
BACKSTORY. After leaving his home, Jabber eventually made his way to Baulders gate. As he had been growing older the dragonborn noticed that the scales on his hands and feet were beginning to change color and was looking for someone that could explain what was happening to him. After asking around, he was eventually pointed to a small temple located in the upper city of Baulders gate. There in a temple dedicated to Bahamut, he found a cleric that was able to sense a small fragment of Bahamut himself within Jabber. The platinum colored scales on the dragonborns hands, feet, and tendrils were a reflection of the deity Bahamut. Immediatly after recognizing the power within this young dragonborn, Father Shimmerscale took Jabber into his home and taught him the ways of Bahamut and helped him to channel the power within himself for good. Jabber spent the three years living in the lap of luxury. Because the temple was located in the upper city of Baulders gate, many of the patrons who attended the church were very wealthy and were more than willing to provide food and clothing and other lavish gifts to someone that they thought might in some way be linked to Bahamut himself. Although Jabber loved the attention and never turned down a gift, he was always willing to listen to the problems of those in trouble and lend a hand where he could.
FRIEND or ALLY. Father Shimmerscale, Cleric of bahamut and leader of the church of the platinum flame. Father Shimmerscale practically raised Jabber for the past 3 years and taught Jabber everything he knows about the source of his power and how to harness it.
This sounds like fun, and I’m always up for working with a DM that that takes the time and effort to encorporate player backstories into a campaign!
1. Name: Preah. Meaning ‘compassion’ in draconic, Dahlimé bestowed this name upon the youngest of her ‘children’ because she was always reconciling her siblings, ending arguments and tending to wounds.
2. Class: Paladin (Oath of Redemption)
3. Backstory: From a young(er) age, Preah was fascinated by the idea Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon. A being so powerful and uncompromising in his belief of goodness, yet so compassionate and gentle with those who were striving for redemption.
Naturally, when it came time to leave the island, Preah sought out a place to find out more about the god. She travelled first to Waterdeep, then to Neverwinter, searching for a temple or shrine to the god, but there were none to be found, as the Platinum Dragon preaches that action is true reverence, not objects. So it was instead from the clergy of Torm, Bahamut’s leige, that Preah got her answers, traveling east to Sundabar and the Hall of Everlasting Justice.
There, she learned about Bahamut and eventually devoted herself to him as a Paladin, swearing that she would take up his quest to redeem or expunge all sources of evil that she came across. Through this quest she met her teacher and friend...
4. Ally: Marasi Cotren, a bookish woman studying law in the Hall. Although seemingly insignificant at first glance, Marasi is both a influential cleric of Torm and the illegitimate daughter of Lord Stoten Morns, the leader of a major house in the city. As Preah apprehended criminals and attempted to redeem them, the two grew close, working together as closely as their respective gods.
No need to change anything. Thanks.
