Chad looks over his inventory and decides he should get a few more items for his travels. He will pick up 20 pitons, a hammer and a two person tent.
Chad will retire to his rented room for the evening and take an early slumber. Chad is normally one to stay up late and enjoy himself, but with the trip ahead, Chad wanted to be well rested.
In the morning, Chad will arrive at the wagon. “Good morning,” he says in a sleepy tone. Chad did not sleep well the night before. The excitement and unknown of the adventure had gotten the best of his slumber. With his thin frame, Chad will take his position on the wagon. “If there are no objections, I believe I would be best suited riding for most of the trip. I can attempt to watch out for danger from up here while you two try to steer these beasts of burden.”

Blightree and Zack make their way up onto the front of the cart and grab the reins, these beasts need a bit of encouragement and you know that if somebody isn't pulling the reins, they won't move anywhere. Chad jumps onto the back of the cart, sat amongst an assortment of mining supplies and food. This includes a dozen sacks of flour, several casks of salted pork, two kegs of strong ale, shovels, picks, and crowbars (about a dozen each), and five lanterns with a small barrel of oil (about fifty flasks in volume). Lilith Stays with two feet on the ground, thinking about being a lookout.
(OOC - Waiting for Gribz and Nadia. Lilith will roll perception if neither of them want to look out or if she comes back and states that she is rolling for it. There is still one space on the back of the wagon)
Gribz will arrive bright and early, ready for the trip (No purchases needed, he's bringing his explorer's pack). Gribz will greet the others and volunteer to walk beside the cart for the first day of the trip at least. Gribz isn't specially trained to keep watch, but he'd do it if nobody else wanted to or everyone else was busy.
The elf had stayed in a rented room that night and decided that early in the morning she would go about and pick herself up a bedroll (1gp) and a two person tent (2gp), believing that everything else she had would suffice for the time being.
Nadia shows up fashionably late, although really, without meaning to and apologizes profusely for making everyone wait for her. (Dang it, I hope they don't think I'm lying about normally being punctual!) She decides that since she was late to the party that she didn't mind walking behind the wagon and taking watch with Lilith.
(ooc - if possible, could nadia help lilith take watch to gain advantage on her roll/have her roll again? if not would it be okay if i rolled perception instead?)

Zack greet's Nadia with a playful, smirk Ah, we were about to leave without ya! Starting to think you weren't coming! He says before laughing softly. Zack was picking on her, just a bit, but it seemed he had no ill intentions with his remarks.. he was just a 'jabber.' Once everyone settled into their positions, Zack would crack the reins shouting Yah! to spur the horses into motion, keeping the pace slow enough that the walkers didn't become joggers.. or sprinters though the thought did cross his mind as a devious smirk played across his lips.
(OOC- personally I find that perception checks are a difficult thing to ‘help’ with. I’m going to say that Lilith and Chad have put their names forward to be the lookouts for this leg of the journey, allowing everyone else to relax a little bit. I will take in to consideration that Nadia and Gribz aren’t just walking with their eyes closed though)
You set off from the tap room with Zack and Blightree at the reins, the oxen moving at a slow but steady pace as the cart creaks and groans slightly, due to the combined weight of equipment and passengers. You follow the cobbled road through the Main Street of the city towards the southern gate. A guard wearing the red and gold colours of Neverwinter steps forward and speaks as though he’s repeated this phrase enough times for ten lifetimes “Please state your names and reason for leaving the city. All goods onboard the cart must be accounted for and…” He stops mid sentence upon seeing the red cover that hangs over the contents of the cart and recognises the symbol of two black pickaxes forming a cross “Oh, you’re the group that the Rockseekers have hired… It says here that the six of you are taking mining equipment over to Phandalin” he has a small piece of parchment in his hand as he walks over to the back of the cart and lifts the cover slightly, almost as if searching through the contents is too much work. “Be on your way and safe travels”
The guard lifts a hand and the gate slowly opens and you move the oxen forwards. The cobbled road fades away and becomes a long and wide dirt track heading South that you may know is called the High Road. The ground on either side of the road looks fairly firm but the grass itself looks like it still has a fine layer of dew on it, even at this time of day. A few miles to your left you can see the looming dark green shades of the Neverwinter woods and to your right you can see where the ground finishes with the top edge of a cliff and the sea begins. As you make your way down the road, the oxen begin to veer off to one side of the road towards particularly tasty looking patches of grass but between them, Blightree and Zack manage to encourage them to stay on track with the task at hand.
As the group passes the Neverwinter woods Blightree looks deeply into the woods. (I wonder if they have found him yet. The Matron surely would have sent someone to check on the progess.)Blightree shudders as he thinks about the possibilities and moves on with guiding the Oxen. He gently encourages the oxen and listens to whatever conversation that maybe taking place around him.
As Lilith walks alongside the cart, she enjoys the scenery around her, taking in the sights, sounds and smells. More often than not, she would close her eyes and take a deep breath, breathing in the air. She seems happy to be out of the bustling city and enjoys the peace of nature. Suddenly, she cries out in shock. "AH! I got dust stuck in my eye. Ow, ow, ow, ow." She rubs her eyes and blinks quickly, a few tears streaming down her cheeks. (Nature, you're so beautiful but why must you hurt me so?) She sniffs and clears her throat, looking at the others sheepishly with a shy smile. "Sorry."
Zack maintains a firm grip over the reins, keeping the oxen on course, though they seemed to prefer Blightree by FAR, regardless they seemed to be moving along fine. (Two days at this pace? might be nice to keep it slow for once.) he thought to himself. His hair barely shifting in the slight breeze and constant bumping of the road. He looked all around him, taking in the scenery, his eyes lingered shortly on the forest with a soft smile, though as his head swiveled to the other side, seeing the ocean in the distance, his eyes lingered longer. Zack had never actually seen the ocean, despite having lived so near it in his younger days, he didn't have time.
He was glad that the guard had let them pass so easily, though it was likely due to some insignia or marking.. or something.
Then, facing forward, he spoke to everyone at once. Keep your lookouts, but.. I was wondering. What brought you all here? Why'd you all accept this job? Where did you come from? I suppose it's only proper for me to start since I asked huh? Well, on the off chance one or two of you who didn't hear: My name's Zack. Glad to meet you all. I used to be a soldier in an army, though my platoon used to patrol my kingdoms lands, mostly to keep the peace, and make sure enemy kingdoms weren't sneaking in. Every once in a while, we'd intervene in a raid.. was usually orcs and goblins, but sometimes bandits y'know? I joined to help people. I uh.. he says, gripping the reins in one hand tightly to make sure he maintained control of the cart on his side, and ran his hands awkwardly through his hair Heh heh.. I know this is gonna sound childish, but I always wanted to be a hero.. to give others someone to look up to, like the soldiers I heard about did for me. There were always stories of the heroism of the soldiers and the great deeds they did, and as a farmboy.... the most exciting thing in my life was picking up horse crap, and hoeing the fields.... I... can't remember exactly why I left.... Sometimes when I try to think about my past, there are large chunks that just seem to be.. gone, that or I just have a shitty memory! Heh. So that's more or less MY story, how about you all?
He realizes he just dumped a lot of exposition about his life on these folks, but the best way to gain peoples trust is to be open and honest about yourself first. (Never expect others to do what you, yourself are unwilling to do.)
"I doubt anyone missed my introduction, but I am Chadwick Bernard Gloomblast. You may say to yourself, I've heard of that family name before, and yes it is true. I do come from a lineage of famous and powerful wizards. Currently, I am contacted with an adventuring group." Chad will tap the lapel pin on his cloak. "Acquisitions Incorporated, if'n you are unfamiliar. I am on a mission to gather information from the surrounding areas. We're always looking to expand the brand, so they say, to other parts of Faerun."
The first couple of hours of your journey pass by. The road is long and quiet with not a huge change to scenery. While you all get to know each other a little more, Lilith feels a searing pain in her right eye as a small speck of dust kicks up off the wagon and temporarily blinds her in one eye for a few minutes. Chad and a few other members of the group look at her to see if she is alright. Liliths eye is watering as she rubs away at it, trying to get the dust out. As she manages to free the dust she looks over to her left and sees an odd circle of rocks about half a mile to the east of the road.
(OOC - Those that still wish to answer Zacks question, feel free to add that at the start of your next post, followed by whatever else you wish to do)
Gribz will walk along the cart next to Zack. In response to his questions, Gribz will say "My parents' tribes lived up north near Mirabar. Their tribes lived in close proximity to one another and my parents met by chance in contested woods that bordered both tribal lands. They fell in love and when their tribes went to war over the contested woods, they ran away. They are both talented singers and sang for money on the streets of Mirabar. One day, Thellassian found them and added them to his traveling theatre. A few years later I was born. I can't sing to save my life, but I like to think I have a knack for theatrical combat. I took the job for the payout, really. Startup money to fund an adventure of my own. I'm tired of acting out the adventures of others. I want to write my own legend with the tips of my scimitars. That's Gribz in a nutshell, haha."
Lilith fidgets with her scarf, pulling it up as though trying to hide her neck. "Oh, well, I just work for a guy who sends me all around Faerun to do jobs for him. When I'm not working for him, I usally just find more jobs to past the time. Nothing special about me!" She laughs awkwardly and clears her throat. As she looks to the left, however, she spots the circle of rocks and cocks her head to the side, furrowing her brows. "Hm. That's weird. Hey, guys, there's a circle of rocks over there. It looks pretty wonky and unnatural Should we go check it out?"
Gribz, itching for something to break up the monotony of the walking, will say "Oooh where?" As he strains his eyes and stands on the tips of his toes "Hmm... Yeah, why not? Let's check it out!"
Keeping the oxen moving and listening to the others share. “Well I hailed from a small village that was nex to the mountain range on the farside of the Neverwinter woods. My parents were exiled from the Druid coven from the south. While starting a new grove a band of drow came killed everyone but me. Since I was young the warband leader kept me. He noticed my talent for Druidic things. The Drow leader dropped me off at his family house. There I was put in charge of fungi for them to sell. I was trained further by strange creature. It taught me all about mushrooms and fungi. About a year ago the same drow brought a Goliath to be a slave. He rebelled and we escaped to the surface. I killed a female drow by accident. After we made our way to the surface. We separated. I came south to avoid vengeance.” Blighttree pauses then pulls his robe. There are extreme scars along the edge of his side.
“ I consider myself peaceful person but will defend us if needed.” He thens stops when Lilith points out the rocks.
Nadia listened to everyone talk about themselves, a frown forming on her face hearing about Zack's memory loss (That explains it...), but she managed a small smile in regards to everyone else's.
