The thug takes the two his and ( Dex 12 ) falls flat on his back. He is winded and clearly in over his head in this fight.
Seb:
As you come to the door you see painted in red letters the word "CLOSED". Listening for a few seconds you realize that there are no sounds coming from within.
Xana and Kriz:
As you go down the stairs and into the large area you realize that there maybe more to this place than meets the eye. A desk with vellum and ink stands in one corner and several shelves have been placed on the walls to the far east. Vials and books are on those shelves. What attracts your attention is the large and closed trap door on the floor that leads further down. The lock on the door is both sturdy and intricate. A piece of velvet cloth is tied just above it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Oh no!)

Xana will have a look at the desk, is there anything that has been written on? (She’ll also totally pocket the vellum if it’s blank and the ink if it’s stoppered). Are there drawers, etc? (Assuming investigation for the desk: 11)

Xana swears loudly in Sylvan, then turns her attention to the bookshelves. (Are any of the books titled on the spine? Or look either really ornate or really drab)

The few books are about the history of waterdeep and some things about tales from the Time of Troubles.
(OOC: don't know if you know anything about that as players but if needed roll history for your character or you ll have to take the time to read the books. I ll add things in spoilers."
If there’s only a few, Xana will show them to Kriz. “Think we should take these? Maybe someone’s scribbled notes in them?” (Xana probably wouldn’t know much even with a roll, lol)

For gods sake man I don't want to hurt you just tell me what I need to know and I’ll leave you in peace! Crash rests the bottom of his quarterstaff on the mans chest but makes no other threatening gestures.
Xana pockets the books, “Yeah, definitely interesting. If only the boys hadn’t run off. You don’t have anything that could contact them, do you?” She looks at the trapdoor but doesn’t get any closer to it.

Nothing in the front but as you go around the place you do notice that there is some light coming from the cellar. The windows on the top floor are boarded shut.

Nice. Tell me ifyou are going to take the thug down and what are you trying to do? Follow or something else ?
Hoping that he thinks he's lost us, Seb will follow the thug through the streets, keeping no more than 20 ft. between the two of them as he blends with crowds and slinks through alleyways.
[OoC]: Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

"unfortunately no, I don't" replies Krizarith while she approaches the trapdoor and check if it is open or locked, not opening it, just checking if it can be opened.

So this is what you see when the man goes to the door.
(roll perception for details )
He knocks on the door and a burly man opens. The man is clean shaved with an almost dandy look and in full dark leather armor. Still he looks dangerous. He is surprised to see he thug at his door but recovers quickly. Behind him a few more are moving around but there is no light at all.

The thugs takes a hit and (19 ) manages to keep his balance. He hits back Attack: 14 Damage: 6 swinging hard with a mallet.
The mallet sails over Crash’s head as he ducks under it and he straightens pulling his quarterstaff out. Fine have it the hard way.
He strikes out at the thug again
Attack: 18 Damage: 5
bonus action is another flurry of unarmed strikes
Attack: 8 Damage: 5
Attack: 19 Damage: 7
again trying to knock the thug prone and stop him from escaping but no wanting the damage to be lethal

Vellum dissappears into Xana's bag. The ink is opened and almost fired up.
There are no drawers in this simple desk and no hidden compartments.
You see no scrolls with any writing but it is clear that someone has hurriedly pocketed them. The few who are left have been burned.
